Rikishi Status Aki 2018 - Day 15 Late Withdraws

Probably because the first man to undergo reconstructive surgery of that ligament was Tommy John, a baseball pitcher, and the surgery is now commonplace and effective largely thanks to his and other pitchers' success. I even heard references to "Tommy John surgery" even in my water polo days, in a team where nobody knew anything about baseball.

For whatever reason there is a completely different wiki on the repair. (There's actually 3 separate wiki pages on this injury...)

Three Sekitori pulling out and all three of them returning smells like a record.

It does. Plus they came back so quickly.

Day 9, part 2

Sd35w Kotohayato (0-4) has withdrawn. He's the first non-sekitori rikishi to withdraw since the tournament started.

Kimura Hisanosuke returned to the basho on Day 10.

Also, I failed to notice that Kimura Ginjiro was absent from the start, but recovered from whatever was ailing him and has been present since Day 7.

No, at the entrance to the kokugikan.

they updated that Kyokutaisei & Akua are kyujo. So Akua’s withdrawal probably occurred this morning.

Well, dammit. Vertebrae sprain and herniated disc in his lumbar region, one month, according to the Jiji article linked above.

First kyujo after nearly eight years in sumo.

Chiyomaru: Metatarsal bone fracture in his left foot, suffered yesterday against Tochiozan.

Mitoryu: Damaged MCL in his left knee.

One and a half months recovery time stated for both, oddly enough. Maybe they've actually got a long vacation trip planned, "Eat Around The World" or something.
