Ganzohnesushi 281 Posted September 15, 2020 On Day 3 finally my first wins in the two H2H games to get 1-2. 1-2 it is also in ISP, S4 and TTT. Out on Day 1 in Chain didn't make me happy either. Odd also is crap so far. Surprisingly doing well in Tippspiel (shared 4th) and 3-0 in Toto is my daily highlight so far. Pre-basho games are running great though I feel my picks are only performing slightly above average. How bad must have picked the rest of the combatants... But with 12 Days to go a lot can (and will) change. Ganzohnesushi

Pandaazuma 1,256 Posted September 17, 2020 My picking is improving a bit but it's a pretty mediocre situation right now after the first third. Will need some serious improvement to keep up with Norizo, who is going well in several games and is surely now the odds on favourite to win the title this year. I wouldn't mind that as I have had a poor year for various reasons while Norizo has been strong and consistent. But I'm not giving up yet. I'm doomed to a poor basho here so I'll try to make the best of it and go for a blowout in November. Operation damage limitation right now. I am out of most games but still have slight chances in the three Japanese games and Oracle for Masters points on the pre-basho scene and a few dailies could be OK if I have a decent second week. Had no time to check others. Norizo is leading in quite a few games though and is the overall leader by quite a way so I see him as the favourite. I hope Flohru does well too, of course. He has had a good year.
Ganzohnesushi 281 Posted September 18, 2020 (edited) Some very promising results after Day 6, but also a few nightmare games. In detail: Dailies Chain out on day 1 - after slipping from #1 to #3 in the ranking already last time I will surely drop out of the Top 10. Meh. Odd - 6 bets, 6 losses. The only positive is having lost only 1 Ante per day ISP 1-5 - what a mess SG 2-4 - picking average but daily aites are doing well BS 2-4 - jammerschade S4 3-3 - Just average TTT 4-2 - I’m one of the 12 co-leaders, yay. Potential for SB masters points. Toto 5-1 - chasing the two leaders. Potential for SB masters points. DST - after 2 x 15 points on Days 5 + 6 I’m suddenly one of two co-leaders. Potential for SB masters points. Pre-Basho JG – shared #10, but as far as I can see a few players might drop a couple of ranks after correction. Potential for SB masters points. POG - shared #13, just 1 point behind #10. Potential for SB masters points. OBG - currently #6. Potential for SB masters points. NC - #14 after Day 5, Day 6 went very well. Potential for SB masters points. UDH - #6 after Day. Potential for SB masters points. TH - shared #9 in my worst game. Very promising. Potential for SB masters points. RS - also shared #9. Potential for SB masters points. SCS - #19 after 5 days. Not that bad but not good enough for any SB masters points. S-O - after 10 or 12 days we will see whether there is potential for SB masters points. All in all I’m happy so far with Aki Basho. Kaito 61 Posted September 18, 2020 I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much before it all comes crashing down, but after a questionable first 2 days, I'm doing pretty great across the board. Stealing Ganz's format. Dailies Chain - Also out on day 1. I managed to avoid the Chiyootori bloodbath, tried to save Takayasu for future days, and lost with Daieisho vs Tamawashi. Odd - 6 bets, 6 losses. Day 2 I didn't even mean to make a bet but I guess I left something locked in. Oh well, probably looking at 0 here. ISP 4-2 - One back of the leaders, in a large tie for 5th. This game's hard. Let's see who gets luckiest. SG 3-3 - Unlucky start, but managed to claw back from 0-3 to 3-3. BS 3-3 - I was Bad Luck of the Basho leader 2 days ago, but have climbed back to 3-3 here as well. Now #3 in MCP. S4 4-2 - In a big tie for 4th. TTT 4-2 - In a big tie for 1st. Toto 4-2 - Lost the first 2 days here as well, but now I have chances. DST - Middle of the pack. Not out of the running but not expecting anything. Pre-Basho JG – Tied for 6th. I'm most worried about Kyokutaisei pickers getting a free point every day. Need Shohozan to continue losing every day to keep pace. POG - Tied for 40th. 9-6. Too many players and my lineup's not good enough. OBG - Tied for 23rd. Still some ground to make up. NC - Tied for 8th. Yusho pick is dead but otherwise the future's looking all right. UDH - Tied for 30th. After a horrendous first 2 days, made a big climb to pass the median line by day 4. Last 2 days have been great again, I reckon. TH - Tied for 2nd. Just keep moving up every day. RS - 1st. I thought yesterday was subpar but retained first. SCS - Tied for 1st. The problem will be if Shodai gets Y/JY points. He was a little too expensive for me. S-O - Not sure yet. Pandaazuma 1,256 Posted September 19, 2020 (edited) Odd basho. After an awful start my pre-basho lads are starting to show some promise so I'm starting to approach the top ten in several pre-basho games. The dailies are poor but I am sort of in contention in Toto, SG, TTT and ISP. Nothing spectacular though. A strong second week and I might grab a decent haul of points. Kaito 61 Posted September 19, 2020 I was pretty unhappy with yesterday's results. Burned some quality resources in Quad just to blow a 2-0 start, lost the 2nd leg of TTT where I was really close to picking a winning option instead, lost ISP, lost Toto, lost yet another SG tiebreak, had a winning Odd bet that would've shot me to 1st but I tacked on Hoshoryu for reasons I didn't even understand at the time. At least pre-basho stuff is still mostly on track.

Pandaazuma 1,256 Posted September 20, 2020 Things continue to improve on multiple fronts as most of my picks continue their strong recoveries. Now looking promising in the Japanese games along with Salarycap, Oracle and Rotosumo. Hoshitori looks a step too far and Juryo Game is obviously a write-off with the Ishiura screw-up. Some of the dailies are OK too: ISP, TTT, SG, Toto, even Bench and Quad are looking better. I missed a massive bet by just one loss in Odd Sumo as well. Damn you, Chiyotairyu. I see Jezz got a big score though - expected someone to go 100+ today - it was ripe for it. A strong second week is all I need and I will be back in business. Ganzohnesushi 281 Posted September 21, 2020 (edited) After Day 9 a few good chances for SB masters points have faded away, but there is still a lot of potential. In detail: Dailies Chain out on day 1 - after slipping from #1 to #3 in the ranking already last time I will surely drop out of the Top 10. Meh. Odd - 9 bets, 8 losses. But I'm not far away from the KK line. Would be happy with 8-7. ISP 1-8 - LOL, ranked #162 among 163 players, what a shame. SG 3-6 - sub par picking plus daily aites doing well. Let's minimize the damage. BS 5-4 - nice turnaround from 1-4. Watch me flying to 11-4, but as I'm ranked in Juryo there is no chance for SB masters points. S4 3-6 - Meh. TTT 7-2 - Sitting in the drivers seat. Potential for SB masters points. Toto 6-3 - picking well in Juryo but Makuuchi costs me big, nevertheless there is potential for SB masters points. DST - haha, was co-leader after Day 6. With today's donut I dropped to #15. Pre-Basho JG – shared #16, but with Ikioi and Mitoryu in my team I'm losing ground every day. POG - ranked #11, just 1 point behind #10. Potential for SB masters points. OBG - shared #5. Potential for SB masters points. NC - #2 after Day 8, but I'll get neither points for Yusho nor for bonus. Potential for SB masters points. UDH - #6 after Day 4. Scored 30+ four days in a row since then. Potential for SB masters points. TH - shared #4. Still I can hardly believe it. Potential for SB masters points. RS - lost ground and dropped to #34. SCS - shared #10 after 8 days. Suddenly there is potential for SB masters points. S-O - way too early, but here is some hope for a few SB masters points. Best chances in TTT and UDH, I could finish somewhere between 20 and 60 SB masters points. Pandaazuma 1,256 Posted September 22, 2020 Lottery day in a lottery basho. The kind of day I always get massacred on. Somehow managed to sneak wins in Toto and Quad but it was woeful elsewhere. SG is really amazing - I absolutely don't deserve to be 6-4 and have been awful but am being blessed with a good-luck basho. I just want 8 at this stage and hopefully some consistency to return to the dohyo before this nonsense shakes me out of the rank. Awful day for the pre-basho games as well so it was a step back. But there are always days like this. Three more decent days and I may be OK for some Masters points.

Pandaazuma 1,256 Posted September 23, 2020 Day 11 was the perfect antidote to the day-10 Panda nightmare. Won most of the games and the pre-basho is really coming good now. Haven't looked at the Masters situation yet but I've definitely gained on the leaders a bit. Just have to try and have a minimum of three good days in the final stretch and I'll be golden. BS - 9-2 tied for the lead at ms2, Juryo at reach finally! S4 - 4-7 at 50th, start of the basho broke my back. TTT - 4-7 at 47th, desiny? Toto - 6-5, getting the hang of it. DST - tied 3rd at M8, becoming one of my favorite games. Pre-Basho JG – 46th, i picked Oki. POG - 7th at J37 with a good team. OBG - 25th at ms6, a KK will make me happy. UDH - 17th at M8, i trust my squad to lose a lot until the end of the basho. TH - shared 6th at M15, solid squad with multiple possible 10+ wins on high points. RS - 51, only hoping for KK. SCS - 55th at J1, terrible pick and point placements. S-O - 36th, after last basho shameful performance all i want is KK.

First, you don't have to bet 3 ante every day in Odd Sumo. So you can play till day 15 with lower bets on strategic days. The other thing is that the Oracle standings are basically meaningless until maybe the last couple of days or so...and even then are quite misleading. There are other ways of tracking your Oracle performance (see the gaming banter thread).
