Pandaazuma 1,256 Posted March 14, 2020 (edited) Well, this ludicrous virus hysteria hasn't actually taught me all that much about humans and how easily they are led around by the nose, but I AM 'grateful' for one thing: It has taught me just how important the presence of fans is for honbasho. Sumo without the fans is an empty, soulless affair. I can barely watch it. This has really affected me in the games as well, as I have zero enthusiasm and am not even checking standings or anything else, and not even keeping my usual notes on the condition of the lads etc., so my performance is going to be a shambles. Well, it has been anyway so far. If I wasn't Yokozuna East on the SB, I would be going kyujo for sure, but as I have some feelings of obligation, I have decided to keep entering the games, although it is no fun at all. They should have cancelled this basho. Not because of the virus but because of this eerie horror show in Osaka. @Haidouzo I envy you, mate. You definitely did the right thing! GAMBARIMASU! Rocks 1,660 Posted March 15, 2020 (edited) I'm really starting to hate tiebreakers. Asanoyama and especially Endo killed me tonight. Wow, I thought I had it bad. Owl is getting raped on tiebreakers in SG. Edited March 15, 2020 by Rocks
Pandaazuma 1,256 Posted March 15, 2020 Owl indeed has had hideous luck, with 8/8 AADs and a fine score. 4/4 tie-breaks lost is no joke, especially on an Ozeki run. Pandaazuma 1,256 Posted March 15, 2020 Can't find the enthusiasm to say anything. Hard enough bothering to put my picks in. Hope I can last the second week. Already resigned to a disastrous Masters score, and this is not helped by Norizo having an insane basho, having managed to avoid ALL the injured/rubbish lads. He is going well in some of the dailies as well. I hope sumo returns to normal in May or I won't have any chance of winning the World's this year, that's for sure. GAMBARIMASU! ronnie 221 Posted March 15, 2020 Not my best day today. Don't think I won in anything. The big disappointment was my zensho run crashing in Toto, and my recent good fortune with the TBs in SG is in payback this basho. Oh well.

Pandaazuma 1,256 Posted March 16, 2020 I finally had a half decent day. I decided if I am in the basho, I might as well make the best of it, although I am still hating the atmosphere in the stadium. Won most of the dailies except TTT (only two people won) and Odd. The pre-basho games are a mess with all my injured lads. Basically, I can get Masters points in Oracle, Juryo Game, and maybe Norizo Cup if I get the special question right...which is possible. The rest are pretty much a write-off unless I can get VERY lucky in Bingo in the final week. Dailies: Actually somehow leading (with three others) Tipspiel. Chances for small change in TTT and Toto if I finish well. The H2H games are a sick joke but I am making a mini-comeback in both. Target is KK. So with a little luck, my target of 30 Masters points is doable. That would be insane, as I have been truly shambolic this time. Not really following it but I believe I am 4-5 down to Ganzo in our contest. GAMBARIMASU!

Kaito 138 Posted March 16, 2020 I haven't been any luckier than Owl in SG. My makushita opponents are outscoring his so far. If I can find a silver lining, it's that I'll have a good shot at another yusho next time against all the droning potatoes.
Pandaazuma 1,256 Posted March 17, 2020 Not much changing in the luck department for several players. Gary and Ganzo are actually back in the yusho hunt as the leader lost and he only has 8 wins. Very catchable as they both have strong scores. Still mediocre with regard to records, but it seems to be that kind of basho where scoring is not rewarded. Chisha, Ronnie, Steve and Rocks need to get their fingers out if they want promotions. They all probably only need 8 or maybe 9 but even that is not easy right now. Unko is looking in danger of demotion too. Gulp! @Kaito As you're a talkative lad I'll add you to the stats next basho as a Centipede if you like? Pandaazuma 1,256 Posted March 17, 2020 A strong day for the Panda and it appears that my pretending that the basho has fans and just turning everything blindly over to my algorithm is paying dividends so far. Just missed out on a nice Odd coup as well, which was highly annoying! Damn you, Ikioi! Tipspiel is my best chance still. Small change in Toto and TTT are still possible. And one again Juryo Game and Oracle look the best bets in the pre-basho field. Norizo had a great day in pre-basho because of the Onosho kinboshi so he looks a lock for the Green now. Fortunately for me, he's not having a great basho in the dailies and he messed up Chain the other day so if I pick up a few points, he shouldn't be too far out of reach. It would be nice to have a good battle with Norizo this year. Still aiming for KK in Bench and SG. Both are now 4-6. Unlikely but I do better when I set targets. Oh, and I pipped Ganzo for 5-5. Domichi 13 Posted March 17, 2020 Joint 6th place in Chain which is nice. I'm between 4-6 and 6-4 in all daily games so nothing exciting to report. Pre-basho games are going poorly. Pandaazuma 1,256 Posted March 18, 2020 Panda keeps his comeback going to go 5-6. Owl lost to Bolo to go MK, which is really very unfair on him. Gary overcame Stefan and is a serious yusho contender now along with Ganzo, who now leads the scoring in Makuuchi. Jan keeps grinding out those wins. Miyako and Rupert had unlucky losses. And Unko is also now MK. Sergio lost and now needs 3 out of 4. Mark is in deep sheeyit. Ronnie is on the verge of MK after another loss. Steve picked up his first TB win and he is close to that massive promotion now. Rocks also won to keep his hopes alive. Dustin, Steve and Jezz all won to go into positive territory. Pandaazuma 1,256 Posted March 18, 2020 Panda now leads Tipspiel and quite possibly Oracle too. Juryo Game and TTT are my best chances elsewhere now. I actually had an amazing day in PO and Bingo to make up a lot of lost ground but I'll need another day like that to hit the Masters points. Nice to be coming back in SG but a lot of work to do. Ganzohnesushi 377 Posted March 18, 2020 Wins in both H2H games, i.e. at 7-4 in both games I need just one more win for KK. Wins also in TTT, ISP, S4 and Toto. Tamawashi screwed me in Odd and in DST I'm losing more and more ground every day. Still in 2nd place in Juryo game but with Terunofuji now on a losing streak there is absolutely no chance for my very first Yusho in this game. In most other pre-basho games I might end with a KK or a small MK. SB masters points hopes in JG plus SG, Bench, S4, Toto and TTT. And despite a 6 points gap the Dödel-Cup is a close-run thing with only a 6-5 lead for me. Ganzohnesushi

Pandaazuma 1,256 Posted March 19, 2020 (edited) Ugh, basically. This was the kind of day my system just can't handle, when all the rikishi who have looked like dogshit the whole tournament somehow pick up scabby wins. On top of that, it was a nasty display of sumo all around with henkas all over the place and Hakuho acting like the arrogant muppet he really is, resorting to brutality against Shodai when he has a responsibility to show Yokozuna sumo. Greatest of all time? Don't make me laugh! Sumo (and especially the Yokozuna rank) isn't just about the numbers, which he obviously leads on; but that's all, I'm afraid. Oh, he's very good at pandering to the fans too...I'll give him that. And so today was a total write-off. Lost every daily and the pre-bashos also went down the bog. I'm sure Owl has his reasons but I was truly baffled at his SG picks today - Hokutofuji has been absolutely abysmal, as has Tokushoryu. I was looking at it thinking: OK, I'm going to get slaughtered here. And so it came to pass! LOL. At least I somehow stayed in the Tipspiel lead with a pathetic 5. And Oracle looks quite promising. I suspect it is between me and Choshu-Yuki. Anyway, it's nice to see the three Yokozuna in the top three positions in the standings. And amazingly I beat Ganzo in an embarrassing 4-4 draw. 6-6 now. I've been rubbish this basho so it would be highly amusing if I won this cup and Ganzo wins the yusho! I don't think Ganzo would mind that so much! ;) GAMBARIMASU!
