ScreechingOwl 343 Posted September 22, 2019 Some hard luck on senshuraku for the five score footed crew. Sagi lost a tie-breaker, falling short one point short of victory and a possible yusho. Unkonoyama also unfortunately faltered on day 15, falling two points short of the juryo yusho. In Makushita Gawasukotto won, but also fell one point short of the yusho. However, there was much positive news for Aki overall. In Makuuchi, Haidouzo finished with a victory to go 11-4 and bag a jun yusho. Sagi finished with 99 points (one short of the most for the basho) and a fine 10-5 record. And Chocshoporyu had the most AADs with 12, and also produced 10 wins. Haidouzo should find himself promoted to komusubi next basho, while ScreechingOwl will yield his place in the sanyaku. In Juryo, Unkonoyama finished 12-3, good for the jun yusho and a likely promotion to Makuuchi next time out. In Makushita, Gawasukotto finished 12-3 and will move considerably closer to Juryo, while Domichi also finished with double digit wins. Congratulations to all the SG gamers and I hope your autumn gets off to a smooth and happy start. Rank Record Points AADs Opp AADs 10 8+ 5- TB TB+ Who? Haidouzo 78 Posted September 22, 2019 A heck of a lot of split jun-yushos. I'll take it! Stopped the bleeding in Bench at 7-8, so I should still be safe in the high double digits of maegashira. Squeezed in a three-way tie for 9th in DST, for a conveniently round 1 point. 36th of 184 in ISP may well bring me up and out of Juryo. A convenient senshuraku win in Odd propelled me to 16th, which I will hope will at least move me happily higher up in makuuchi. Couldn't get it going in Quad in the end (at all), but 27th of 70 will surely keep me at sekiwake. Three-way tie for the Toto yusho, at 12-3. I have no idea how the tiebreak works now, but seeing the trend here (and seeing I'm only 2nd of the three in total points and 3rd of three in risk factor), I'm guessing I've split the jun-yusho. 11 points. Split jun-yusho at 11-4 in SG after being much too far behind in total points. Another 11 points. Gained some ground on the last day in TTT for a 4-way jun-yusho split at a raw 8-7. 9 points. Even nabbed the (lone!) jun-yusho in TUG. There may be a surprise for me somewhere in a pre-basho game, but I'm doubting it. 32 points feels like the strong end of the normal scoring range of a Machine basho. (Three jun-yusho is probably exceptional, though!) Thank goodness *it* doesn't get ear infections. Now to try to remember to throw in a GTB entry before the deadline for once. And maybe try to update my data earlier than the Saturday before the first day of matches. GANBARIMASU
ronnie 221 Posted September 23, 2019 Overall, a poor showing this basho. BS 6-9. After a 0-5 start, that was as good as I could expect! CG Day1 DST DiSasTerous. 3-12 ISP 9-6. Not bad by my standards Toto 7-8. About average for me. SG. 12-3. Jun Yusho and a personal best tally for me TTT 4-11. Nuff said
Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted September 23, 2019 (edited) Finally. A bit of time! Many thanks to Owl (and Domichi) for filling in so adeptly while I was away. I had hardly any time to pick the lads in the second week, let alone check the results, so this is a good chance to survey the damage... Bench: 11-4D. 11 Masters points (MP). Lost a tie-break to Flohru on the last day. His line-up was basically unbeatable. That was the story of my basho, actually...three of my four losses were against opponents that I couldn't have beaten even with a GBL. Anyway, ten wins next time would put me up to Ozeki, I believe. Chain: Out on day 2 picking some muppet as usual. Tipspiel: 11-4. 4th place, 8 MP. Picked well and finished strongly. There was no beating the stats pickers this time, though...Gurowake was a lock. I was kadoban though so this should put me back safely as the top-ranked player. Fantasy Sumo: The game is currently down but I won't be in the points as I didn't have Mitakeumi and had two injured rikishi. A mess, basically. Guess the Banzuke: 14-1D. Again, lost the yusho on a tie-break. 12 MP. Hoshitori: 12-3. A catastrophic error. My planned line-up had Mitakeumi at 12, not 2. I genuinely can't work out why I put him at 2, as that goes completely against my tactics for this game. It probably cost me a top-three place and possibly yusho. ISP: 9-6. My usual mediocrity. Juryo Game: 9-6, 10th place. 0.2 MP. I thought I had a good line-up here so was disappointed. Daiamami and Kiribayama were the main ones to let me down, I think. Norizo Cup: 9-6. Very lucky here due to the special question. I just can't seem to get lucky with the 'active' and non-active picks of late. I should keep my Yokozuna rank. Odd Sumo: 4th, 8MP. If Okinoumi had henka'd Takakeisho as he should have (the only way he could have won yusho), I would also have won yusho. Bingo: Yusho. 15MP. This obviously guarantees re-promotion to Ozeki. Paper Oyakata. 2nd place, 12 MP. This was always going to be me or Chisha. I don't mind losing this one at all. Rotosumo: 14th. Had Hakuho here so was always at a disadvantage to the Kakuryu pickers. But I didn't have Ichinojo, and so the balance was probably restored. Salarycap Sumo: No results yet. I didn't have the yusho or jun yusho lads, and only one sansho winner, so I won't be in the top ten. But I think a kachi koshi is quite possible. Oracle: 12-3, 3rd place, 10 MP. My 6-9 punt on Takakeisho cost me the yusho, basically. What an amazing turnaround by Choshu-Yuki, though. Respect. Quad: 6-9. This was poor, obviously, but this may well be upgraded to 8-7. Toto: 12-3Y. 15 MP. Nice to win the yusho here again. I think I had the gino-sho as well if you actually use the correct score with x-picks, and that's the only sansho I give a damn about in any game. Sumo Game: 9-6, 0.43 MP. Annoyed to lose on senshuraku. Basically, I was a victim of not having the time to use my system. Aoiyama would have been rejected by it. But I came back well from a bad start. TTT: 6-9. This will be upgraded for sure, at least to 7-8. Tough basho so not a shameful score. UDH: Nowhere. A losing record. Again, I was a victim of my dumb bet on Takakeisho being too injured to compete, so I was screwed from the start. I was kadoban as well, so am now back to Sekiwake. Will have to go for yusho in Kyushu to swing straight back up. I think that's 91.63 Masters points, so a green mawashi is likely. If so, I will have swept all the Tokyo tournaments this year, which was the plan. It also takes me to about 332 points, which is a nice early breaking of this year's target. I will obviously go for 400 in Kyushu, but I doubt my luck will extend that far. Gambarimasu. Edited September 23, 2019 by Pandaazuma

Interesting take but given Jejima's huge 5-8 point, or more, advantage in picking 8s for both Yoks it's kinda of amazing any of us even got close. I would say your faith in Terutsuyoshi along with your lack of faith in both Kaisei and Ikioi probably cost you more than Takekeisho did. Congrats on the yushos and your Green mawashi! Well you could pick any prediction that was off and say the same. I have personal rules for predictions with rikishi that seem to be injured or ailing in some fashion, as Ikioi and Kaisei clearly have been. Sometimes it backfires, but that is the nature of the beast. Terutsuyoshi looked really up for it last basho and showed that fighting spirit I always look for, but it was totally absent this time. It was clear his head dropped. If I had predicted 8 or more for Takakeisho as I normally would for him, I would objectively have won yusho, or perhaps lost on a tie. That was what I was saying. Domichi 13 Posted September 23, 2019 Mixed bag for me this basho. Pre Basho: GTB: 4-11 Fantasy Sumo: No idea, but not good considering I had Hakuho and probably Ichinojo Roto: Poor showing with a 66th place finish Daily: ISP: Just squeaked through with an 8-7 Bench: Not a terrible 7-8 record considering I had Hak and Ichi here as well. Sumo Game: Worst basho of my career and I lucked into a 10-5 record. I'm very fortunate to be carried with a very high tiebreaker win rate of 70.5% (43/71 so far), which netted me 4 of my wins this basho.

Kinda bummed about SG because I think I could have got a Juryo promotion with a couple more wins and I lost the last 3. But I did at least squeak out a KK which is amazing as I had a miserable 84 for total points.
Ganzohnesushi 522 Posted September 23, 2019 I guess no one got more affected by the many upsets and surprises in Aki Basho. E.g. in Nagoya Basho I finished with 105 points in Sumo Game rewarded with the gino-sho while in Aki no Makuuchi player scored worse than me. From that perspective it is no surprise I had a very bad Basho with many MK’s. Only highlights were the 2.5 SB points in Chain plus the nice 8th place in UDH provoding me with another 3 SB points. Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted November 5, 2019 Sumo Game rankings are out. Only three divisional transfers. Owl slips out of sanyaku to the Maegashira jo'i. Replacing him in the top komusubi slot is Scott. And congrats to Unko for another return to Makuuchi. Very nice jump there for Stefan too. Sadly I think he is just out of the range for a Yokozuna bout so I am hoping he gets 8 or more so I can finally get to fight him in January. Rank Record Points AADs Opp AADs 10 8+ 5- TB TB+ Who? Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted November 5, 2019 (edited) Panda aims in Kyushu: 400 Masters points for the year (Will need 68 this time) Green Mawashi Yokozuna promotion in Toto (will need jun yusho at least) Ozeki promotion in Bench (Need 10, I believe) Sweeping all WC sansho and winning both the daily and pre-basho gaming categories. I am actually just behind Norizo in the former, so I'll be going for it in the dailies this time. Pretty ambitious aims there so...GAMBARIMASU! Rocks 1,809 Posted November 8, 2019 (edited) I pretty much reached my goals for this year, although I'm still a bit disappointed. I wanted to average a yusho in points per basho and get 90 points for the year. Done that. I'm very disappointed in only one actual masters points yusho and want one more at least. I want KKs everywhere but most especially SG and Bench. I want to make Juryo in SG for January. Doing great in bench and maybe making Makuuchi for January would be lovely too. As far as overall points it would be great to make Top 10 for the year but I think that will take 40 more points minimum and I'd still need some luck. I want to get some points in Chain too. Can't believe how horrid I have done this year in that game. Finally, to stay ahead of @Pandaazuma and @Gurowake in Total points for the year in Oracle would be nice too. Lots of luck boys! Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted November 10, 2019 Very weird day. The picking was excellent, but two (likely) catastrophic injuries (to Goeido and Ichiyamamoto) threaten to destroy me in several pre-basho games. Once again it's the curse of the pre-basho reports: Takayasu and Takakeisho, who were supposed to be awful and poor respectively, look fine, while Goeido, my ozeki pick in all games, is crocked and may be out tomorrow. Awful luck, especially as I have very good teams in Roto and Juryo Game, which will now be ruined. And Tochinoshin single-handedly screwed me in four games (Chain, TTT, Bench and SG), three of which are important this basho to do well in. So it's hard to be happy despite having the best score in Toto by a country mile. Arses. GAMBARIMASU!

Haidouzo 78 Posted November 10, 2019 Fantastic day 1. 14-7 win in Bench, and even kept my preferred komusubi. Wins everywhere but ISP and Odd, and marginally below average in DST.
