Haidouzo 78 Posted July 11, 2018 I was about to defecate a brick when I woke up to see the Hakuho withdrawal. I was comforted to see that a considerable majority of SG failed to accommodate for it, so I'm guessing this was about as late a withdrawal as it gets. (Not to mention not a single change in TTT. I'm assuming the withdrawal was so late that even TTT had locked down.) A marginal improvement over day 3, with fortunate wins in Toto, SG, and DST (above the average). The hilarious lowlight is picking four losers in Quad. I know I didn't pick Hakuho in any pre-basho game, so I suppose things are looking slightly up. Sebunshu 1 Posted July 11, 2018 You are correct. I recall checking with about 20-25 min to go prior to the SG deadline and the Hak kyujo was not listed on the Absent NHK page. Then with about 10 min remaining I thought maybe check one more time and there it was. Just barely enough time to change my SG lineup. It gave me one more point, but I would have still won as I ended up with a 2 point edge over Susanoo. ztnm, Sebunshu
Haidouzo 78 Posted July 11, 2018 I was fortunate that my opponent also did not make the switch. I would have screamed if I'd ended up with one more tournament at 7-8 instead of 8-7 just because I missed a kyujo. Of course, it DID cost me the win in in the Baka Cup, which means it's a pretty safe bet that I WILL lose 7-8 in that now. I would make the case that this game should be the one where kyujos are automatically accounted for, but then again it IS called the Baka Cup
Sebunshu 1 Posted July 11, 2018 I was amazed to see both Simon and Choccy Boy spotted the Hak kyujo in time (in addition to a distinct similarity in their lineups, LOL!) Lightning communication between those two I must say... Har! Har! ztnm, Sebunshu

Scott joins him at 4-1 after an extremely fortunate turn-around...at poor Chisha's expense...thanks to Kakuryu giving out kinboshi like candy. Seisset beat Stefan and is now the sole leader of Juryo. Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted July 12, 2018 The final nail in this basho's coffin for the Panda was Hakuho's withdrawal yesterday as it ruined those very few pre-basho games that I still had a slight chance in. As it stands, unless there is a major turnaround, I'm only going to be getting Masters points in Oracle. So...I need the dailies. Unfortunately I'm woeful there too, although today wasn't bad as I won Quad, Toto, Bench and SG to keep my hand in there...3-2 in all. The less said about the other dailies the better. I doubt I'll even hit 30 points now...20+ is more realistic. And a nice win in the Baka Cup to go 3-2 from a 0-2 start! GAMBARIMASU!
Haidouzo 78 Posted July 12, 2018 A fairly good day 5, with losses only in Bench (where having Kakuryu instead of Hakuho ended up being a handicap...), ISP, Odd, and Toto (and the Baka Cup). In a six-way tie for second in SG at 4-1, and in a seven-way tie for second in TTT with 3-2. A perfect day in Quad stops the bleeding at 2-3. 10th place in Roto and in a four-way tie for the Shukun-sho. Tied for 7th in Salarycap as of day 3. Favoring Kakuryu over Hakuho in all things should mean things mostly trending upward in the pre-bashos where that matters. GANBARIMASU!
Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted July 13, 2018 Sumo Game is well known for how infuriating it can be in the luck department, but even for this game, there is some SERIOUS luck of both varieties already going around. Flohru and especially Kaiomitsuki are having utter nightmares...scoring well and yet 1-5 and 0-6 respectively. In Mukade Beya, Ganzo, Renaud, Owl and the Panda can all feel fairly aggrieved. And then we see Seb...who is 5-1 with the second lowest score in the division. What a game! Seb and Scott are both one off Andonishiki's pace. Seisset slipped up in Juryo but remains the co-leader. And it's always good to see the TROLL get stuffed, today by Ronnie, courtesy of the fusensho. Rank Wins Points AADs Opp AADs 10 8+ 5- TB TB+ Who? Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted July 13, 2018 Well, what a difference a day makes. After yesterday pronouncing the Panda dead on arrival, Kak pulls out to even out the Hak handicap AND I have a banner day, winning everything but Bench. I am now back in the running in some of the dailies and a few more good days could win me some points. At this stage I am aiming for 30 Masters points so I will need the dailies for that. The pre-basho games improved greatly today but I'm still not quite in the running yet. A couple more decent days are required. Another win in the Baka Cup makes it 4-2 and I'll have a chance to make it five face to face tomorrow as I face Scott in SG! GAMBARIMASU!
Haidouzo 78 Posted July 13, 2018 Another mixed day, but a second tiebreak win (out of three) in SG for 5-1 is fantastic, and only matched by a three-way tie in TTT for the yusho (at 4-2! Methinks we may see some considerable adjustments in wins, come banzuke time). At least one yusho anywhere this year would be respectable. Also scraped together a tiebreak win in Bench, for 2-4, after leading in MCP at day 2 (and a 1-1 record). And now back-to-back wins in TUG to finally get on the board and onward. Losses everywhere else. GANBARIMASU

Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted July 14, 2018 (edited) In the highest quality bout in the entire game (17 points between the two players), Scott beat the Panda with a fine picking display. He is one of three just behind the leader Andonishiki. Seb also fell to a big score and so has fallen out of immediate contention and is on a par with Gary at 5-2. Most of STI are doing OK but there is some terrible luck still, most notably for the Panda and Ganzo. The latter needs to be damned careful he doesn't fall into Juryo at this rate. Stefan won again and joins Seisset in a massive melee for first place. Jezz lost and Ronnie won...both have middling scores. Rank Wins Points AADs Opp AADs 10 8+ 5- TB TB+ Who? Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted July 14, 2018 Not a bad day overall...won the important ones for the Masters. Up there in the big points now in Quad, Toto and Odd. I even have an unlikely shot at points in TTT with an abysmal 2-5 record. But as always things are overshadowed by my hideous luck in SG. I mean, I don't blame Scott...he picked very well and deserved to win. But I just keep on getting these monster scores whenever people face me far more than I should be getting. I suppose I must be a marked Panda. It is particularly irritating after both picking well AND slaughtering Scott for four straight days. Couldn't you have picked another day to go monster?? Oh well...I now need 5/8 for safety...but the scoring table ain't pretty...I am now the unluckiest player in the game apart from poor Kaiomitsuki, who just can't seem to catch a break at all. The pre-basho scene is a lot better too...I have real chances for points now, but Oracle has become far closer than it should be because of the withdrawals, which have one and all completely screwed me, bringing Norizo, Choshu-Yuki and Gurowake all within striking distance when I was comfortably ahead before. I will need to grind this one out, I suspect. Points chances also in Hoshitori and perhaps a few more. Hard to say right now. GAMBARIMASU!
Haidouzo 78 Posted July 14, 2018 Another one of those days for the Machine... with an absolute clean sweep of all nine (surviving) dailies! Best in show is now the sole yusho lead in TTT, with 5-2, after my two former co-leaders seemingly missed the kyujo, to their demise. A modest win in Odd brings me back to 7th, but I'm still not qualified, so probably have to hope for one more strike if I'm going to get any points. It seems like a lot of the pre-bashos haven't updated past day 1, so now I'm really not sure where I'm at. GANBARIMASU

Hey, now--you only got one of those because you got the lucky pounce on the Hakuho kyujo! But seriously, yes. That our head-to-head in SG is now 7-3 and 70-65 in points is absolutely bizarre given the typical results of the Baka Cup. Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted July 15, 2018 Won everything today but basically the twin withdrawals of Shin and Hak have pretty much destroyed all my pre-basho prospects. I'm not limited realistically to Oracle and Hoshitori....and not guaranteed much in either. This makes my dailies absolutely essential...so it will be a high-pressure second week for sure. Need to grind out more wins especially in Toto and Quad...and try to get back into the points in Bench, SG and TTT. The rest are a write-off. I am rarely in this situation so it should be interesting. Back to winning in the Baka Cup. I won five out of the last six but of course I meet Scott on the day that actually matters and he wins! Just GRRRRRR! I am in a real battle to get 8 and I'll need to get past Gary and Seb in the next two days before I can relax a bit. GAMBARIMASU!
Haidouzo 78 Posted July 15, 2018 A rough day 8 for The Machine. Wins only in TUG, Quad, and--thankfully--TTT. Which means I remain alone in the yusho lead in TTT. The slip (though I suppose *I* didn't slip, but rather had a brick wall thrown in front of me) in SG is disappointing, but with six days left, anything is possible. Also made no bet in Odd, which looks like was its own kind of winning for day 8. GANBARIMASU
Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted July 16, 2018 Seb was the only player of the top seven to win...and yet again he had stupendous luck - his droning opponent had the three withdrawals in the top three slots. I mean, fair play to Seb - it's not his fault that he is getting easy opponents - but this is one of the luckiest tournaments I've ever seen for any player. He is a genuine yusho contender now. Kaiomitsuki (1-8 with four more points scored) will be looking at those scoring tables with a slightly sick look on his face today. Astounding. Seb meets the Panda tomorrow and a win will give him a nice early kachikoshi. Scott and Gary both lost and therefore failed to take advantage of the slip-ups at the top. Stefan got a nice drone for his seventh win and he needs two more for certain promotion. Maybe even just one would do it. In Makushita Ronnie walked into the only nine of the day in the entire game.
