Quad: 7-way tie for 6th. 2 and 1/7th points. Chaingang: 1/19th of a Master's point. Not the first time I've gotten a small fraction of a point here. TTT: From 8-3 to 8-7 and a tie for 12th. Toto: Lost on senshuraku to tie for 12th. DST: Tanked on senshuraku to drop from 11th to 15th. Bench: A 4-4 tiebreak win for KK (8-7). ISP: 5-10, 157th of 183. I may have never gotten Master's points in this game. Odd: 4 points not bet is all I have to show there. 52nd of 60. Not good from M11. In pre-basho: Juryo Game: Top 10 the whole basho until the end. 12th. Oracle: After a promising run all basho, tied for 17th of 54. Norizo Cup: 7-8 Roto: 50th of 88. The rest of the pre-bashos are too horrible to mention. Approximately 11.2 points from 3 top 10s. 5 finishes from 12th to 17th. Still no yusho. This seems all the Machine is capable of anymore. The only somewhat open question is whether he will break my old Masters record from 2013. If he could maintain or improve his UDH performance on Days 14 and senshuraku, that mission is accomplished. Just for this basho it is: - most points ever in any Masters competition (he eclipsed my old record by a little bit more than half a point, clocking in a 108.91) - (probably) the best pre-basho performance in history, with 86.50 points (I have to double-check on that, but it's almost guaranteed) - getting points in 14 different games. Again, I am pretty sure that this is unprecedented. - the best GTB performance in history. Amazing... Watching the bouts with Simon, I began to get a grasp on what makes him such an outstanding daily gamer. I still have to uncover his secret for pre-basho gaming... Later edit: ok, some laurels too many... There have been two players with 90+ pre-basho points. And Gurowake also had a basho with 14 performances among the Top 10. Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted January 27, 2019 Well, now...Hatsu 2019. Bench Sumo: 9-6 (0.75 Masters points (MP)). Started 1-3 and 2-4, I think, so this is a decent comeback. Should be S1E in March. Chain: Out on day 6 when all the bandwagons crashed. (0.05MP). Under my picking system, it would have been impossible to win this tournament, so even a fraction of a point is nice. Tipspiel: Joint 3rd, 11-4 (8MP). I managed a big fat zero on senshuraku after some good picking on days 1-14 and nearly messed things up but managed to hang on for significant MPs. I think I may have a chance of ozeki promotion here too. Fantasy Sumo: 9-6. I didn't have the yusho winner so despite being top three the entire basho, I ended up being overtaken by almost anyone with Tamawashi in their line-up. If Takakeisho had won... But I am very happy with this result as I hate being kadoban in this lottery game. GTB: 15-0Y. I equalled the record score so this was really excellent. Hoshitori: 3rd, 14-1 (10MP). I needed a good record as my Yokozuna status was in danger but that is past for the moment. ISP: 6-9. The usual horror show. This is one game I will just never ever be good at. Juryo Game: 8-7. I may have been kadoban here (can't remember) so am relieved to be in positive territory. I was let down by Takagenji, Wakatakakage and Mitoryu. Kotoeko did a lot better than I expected as well. Norizo Cup:14-1Y (15MP). I just managed the yusho on a tie and am very happy with this as I have been a bit lacklustre in this one of late, which is not good enough. My Yokozuna counterpart Choshu-Yuki has been thrashing me over the last 12 months so it's nice to get the east spot back. Odd Sumo: 3-12. If Aoiyama hadn't stepped out against Hokutofuji, I'd have picked up nearly 60 points on senshuraku. Damn! Bingo: Joint 5th, 11-4 (5.5MP). Better than expected and it should put me back in sanyaku. PO: 5th, 12-3 (6MP). With 11-4 last time, I can get ozeki promotion in March if I get 11 again. Not easy, but I'll give it a crack. Rotosumo: Yusho (15 MP). A bit surprising. Avoiding the banana skins like Yutakayama was probably the key here. Salarycap: 7th, 12-3 (4MP). I had neither the yusho nor jun yusho bonus so am very happy to make the top ten. Oracle: 12-3J (10MP). Close at the top this time and lost on a tie but was glad to have navigated a very tricky basho. Quad: 8-7. From a 0-3 start and picking with a bunch of zombies for the last few days, this was a really excellent result. Toto: 12-3J (11MP). I was kadoban here so this was the result I needed. SG: 9-6 (2.5MP). Very relieved to clear soft kadoban but this was a poor and undisciplined performance. I'll be ensuring that won't happen again. TTT: 8-7. A bit disappointed not to make the top ten but 8 wins is 8 wins. UDH: 5th, 13-2 (6MP). My decision to put Kise top paid off with a decent result. This lays the foundation of a Yokozuna run. I think I have 108.8 Masters points [rough calculation which may be incorrect], which is a very nice haul on any day of the week. I was lucky, basically, but I can't really pinpoint why my pre-basho performance was so strong. I guess I just managed to avoid most of the banana skins in comparison to other gamers. The Haru 2019 rankings for Mukade Beya in Sumo Game are below. Yokozuna Pandaazuma can fight with a clean kadoban slate. The same cannot be said of Ozeki Yamashiro, who is kadoban once again and needs 8. Scott is our only other (very strong-looking) sanyaku representative as he returns to komusubi. Miyako and Gary were absolutely hammered by the banzuke maker, going from sekiwake to M2 with 7-8 records. Gulp! They form a logjam of Centipedes at M2-M3 that also includes Seb and Rupe. Outside the jo'i we find Owl all on his own, and then Mark enjoys a nice jump. Jan, Renaud and Chisha are all going to need decent performances this time or they'll be down. Speaking of which, it is very strange to see a player as strong as Ganzo in Juryo...but there he is. I have no doubts the veteran will be back in short order. Stefan just missed out on promotion but at J1E, 8 wins will guarantee a return. Hal and Unko have been languishing a bit and they could do with a double-digit performance. Jezz is within striking distance of Juryo. Ronnie has some work to do. And Steve gets a huge boost up to the thirties with his 10-5 last time. Get your default lads in and see you in a week. Hoping for my usual 40-50 points to stay on course to beat that elusive 300 points for the year. My main aim this basho is to tighten up my daily gaming discipline, as I have been far too sloppy of late. I don't think I am in danger of losing high ranks anywhere this time but I am on a Yokozuna run in UDH (looks very tricky this basho) and Toto and also have slight chances for Ozeki in Paper Oyakata and Bench. The SB ranking could be pretty good this time as well after KK in 18/20 games in Hatsu with three yusho. Could be a record score. And Scott is going to be taking possession of the stinking Baka Cup. Gurowake 4,088 Posted March 4, 2019 I'm also in Juryo in SG and have been more basho than not lately. I've been pretty weak in all the games overall comparatively lately, and I missed setting a line-up at least one day (with a default including tons of kyujos), but overall so much of the game depends on who you face when, much like Bench, but at least in Bench you can have a better squad than the average opponent each day. I've considered the possibility of creating a scoring system/game with the scoring system based on the same picks as SG, because I think given the decent number of picks you have to make and rank that the game could lend itself to a daily game where skill in knowing win probabilities is much more likely to result in better results than any of the games that we have right now. Toto suffers from not rewarding an amazing day or punishing a terrible day, plus requires picks of everyone. Quad is pretty good, but since you have to by definition be picking mediocre rikishi most of the time, there's no real reward for knowing just how likely the better rikishi are to win compared to each other like there is in Oracle that makes the game so highly skill-based. I don't want to create a new way of picking rikishi for this game/scoring system, because there are too many games already and so many are so similar, and whatever I would suggest would be very specifically designed to not have anything in the way of a gimmick. To this end, I suggest scoring the ten picked rikishi for each player in SG something like DST: you get 10 points if the top rikishi wins, 9 points for the second, etc, and the scores are tallied up continuously instead of awarding hoshitori each day to the top half like in Toto or as compared to one specific person as is the case now in SG or Bench. For this scoring system I would also automatically place fusen winners at the top of the lineup and remove any fusen losers. This would create a slight problem if someone already had the fusen winner in their lineup and also had the fusen loser as they wouldn't have 10 rikishi left, but it would mean they chose two rikishi matched against each other and so there shouldn't be much sympathy for not being able to score for the bottom slot. I don't know if Pandaazuma can get the guy who runs the game to make available all the picks in a format that is easy to digest for a computer so that I can just plug the data into a spreadsheet along with the Makuuchi results (if not part of the data I get from the guy) and quickly come up with the results according to this scoring system. I don't particularly care if other people don't care about what the results of this scoring system would be; I'm just interested in testing to see if "Top ten rikishi in Makuuchi to win, in order" really is a good set of picks to design a skill-testing game/scoring system around, even if right now it's stuck to a HTH format and scoring system with nearly equal weight to each match that doesn't let that skill-testing really shine through except in broad strokes. But I also am not going to go through and manually copy everything (even if it were only for a few people) or write a tool to query and parse all the HTML I would need to do it automatically as that's way beyond my current programming skill set. I remember a way back that Sokkenaiyama or someone was talking about doing an MCP thing for SG as well as Bench, but that never came to fruition. The guy who runs SG is open to things like this but he does seem busy so if your request is tricky to implement, he probably won't be up for it. Kak in fact screwed me in Tipspiel, Quad and TTT as well, but at least I managed wins in Chain, ISP and Bench. The pre-basho scene is interesting. My unorthodox picks did OK, but it looks like all the main orthodox ones won today, meaning I will need to improve. I am not too worried...most of my picks look to be in good condition. And Toto was a disaster, but it always is on day one for me. Fortunately I now know the condition of the lads so I hope to improve markedly from now on. GAMBARIMASU! Kakuryu was only picked by 56% of people according to the stats, just one place higher than the 50% who picked Shodai. I think a lot of people were equally concerned about Kakuryu's injuries compared with Mitakeumi's.
