Unbelievable. Losses everywhere. What a time to have 2 bad days.  Lost a tiebreaker in SG to a higher placed winner in position 9. I can not catch a friggin' break this basho.

A win only in Toto, for 7-7.  In a tie for 6th in TTT now, thanks to the Machine overly liking Goeido's chances.

3-11 is an absolute nightmare in SG.  I may not even face the Panda in March.  HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET ANOTHER KINBOSHI NOW?

Panda pulled off a pretty incredible comeback after a horror start to go to 10-4. Scott is having a total nightmare and 11 AADs against is not helping matters. Trust me, I feel the pain! Owl keeps up the fine work to go 9-5 and has a chance for decent Masters points. Gary came through a limp 3-3 draw for damage limitation. Jan's fabulous comeback brings him to the brink of KK. Stefan won again and I reckon he could make a sanyaku debut if he wins and Trender loses tomorrow. Rup and Miyako secured KK today. Well done. Same to Ganzo for yesterday, although he lost today. Unko is hoping for KK tomorrow.

Chisha could win yusho as he is in the sole lead now but his score means he will almost certainly have to win his match. Mark is looking for a KK after a bad-luck basho. Eric is 5-9 after some very tough opponents. Rocks has the same record and will be back in Makushita in March.

Ronnie's epic scoring puts him all alone at the top of the scoring of all three division but sadly he won't be rewarded with even a sniff of yusho as Kaito is two wins clear. I do actually reckon he could be promoted if he gets eleven and the bottom Juryo lad goes 7-8. Steve lost today so he can not be certain of promotion either. He may need win number 10. Dustin HAS win number ten and is the tie-break king of the Centipedes this time along with Chisha, with both winning 5 out of 6. I am not counting those who have 3 out of 3 here. ;)

Best of luck on senshuraku.

Overall not a bad day for the Panda. Won Toto, SG and Bench but lost TTT, Quad and Odd. ISP was funny as I went for Tokushoryu for a laugh and he won! I am out of that one anyway.

With a half decent day tomorrow I could get between 40 and 50 points, which is not bad at all given the insanely unpredictable nature of the tournament. Main points should come from Odd, Quad, Sumo Game and Roto. Maybe Norizo too if my 'active' muppets start actually being active. Small change is possible if I win in Toto and Bench as well. No idea about Oracle as I am miles behind Norizo but I think he (with Jezz) are going to trounce the field as well. I may sneak into the top ten but it wasn't stellar this time.

I declared long ago my strong belief that it's easier to yusho in makuuchi than it is in makushita from Ms1-10 (or so).  I was strongly disagreed with by many.  Here's one more data point.

It's actually one of the only things I somehow consistently do well on. While I may not necessarily pick many winners, I have an edge ordering them I guess. I'm 50/71 (70%) in tie-breakers so far in my career in SG.

I think I'll need refine how I pick my bouts after this basho as my overall score is consistently low. Take a deep dive into how my overall picks differ from the top scoring guys and hopefully learn something.

Just corrected an error in the stats table for Owl. I put these in manually so errors generally creep in over the basho. You'd be doing me a big favour pointing them out for me as I never have time to double check them. Cheers.

Normally I probably would have noticed but considering how I've done this basho I can hardly bring myself to look. Sorry.

6-9s in both SG and Bench. My worst record ever in either. Inexcusable. But at least I finished both with a win and my best single day score for the basho. 6-9 in Oracle too, which is not acceptable. Those will change next basho.

Comeback to 3rd in DST and a top 10 in Juryo along with a Yusho in LKS. So it wasn't a complete loss anyway.

And congrats to @ScreechingOwl with a helluva 10-5 in SG considering he was 4-4 on Day 8. Also to @chishafuwaku on his Juryo yusho in SG.

Just realized @Pandaazuma did the same as Screech in SG, congrats to him too. But he's a Yokozuna so that is expected of him. Plus he gave up 4 kinboshi. I expect him to retire after the Olympics.

Lol!

It's a nightmare being Yokozuna in that game. Everyone is biting your arse for kinboshi AND the luck factor is insane so in a bad-luck basho you get totally shafted no matter how well you pick. On the plus side, it is a lot easier to STAY at the rank than it is to stay at Ozeki. That said, no game stresses me out more. It is the only game I actually get upset about losing, even after all this time! ;)

I'm sure Pandaazuma will retire after some Olympics, just not the Tokyo ones. Plus, he's not a rikishi but an oyakata, so he can stick around until he's 65, at least.

I hadn't even remembered I was 4-4 at one point in SG - have to win those ties! On my selection sheet today I checked off Endo but in the game I put in Enho (who I also thought would win, but who I did not mean to choose in SG), so I was very lucky to overcome that mistake.I had a good senshuraku overall, but this was a tough basho to pick in, and I expect that is a trend that will increase until the new guard is firmly in place, which could take a few years.

A miserable basho topped off by a 5-10 in Bench from M14W, which should surely spell demotion.  Thankfully safe even with 3-12 in SG (though I've seen what 7-8 does from sanyaku so perhaps I'm speaking too soon), but if I manage to end up in Juryo there this year, that might be just the inspiration I need to intai.

4-11 in DST after a 0 on senshuraku.  Already in the bottom group there anyway.

7-8 but 85th of 182 in ISP, so I suppose that might squeak by as effectively a KK for a top 50% finish.

49th of 68 in Odd.

36th of 61 in Salarycap will take me out of sanyaku.

5-10 in Quad will send me well away from sekiwake.

Blew it on senshuraku for 7-8 in Toto.  Back to old 7-8 8-7 7-8 8-7 tricks there, I suppose.

Also blew it on senshuraku in TTT, for a 12-way tie for 8th and the only Masters point... half-point for me this basho.

Dead last in Hoshitori for 0-15 from J1.  29th of 75 in JG, which is surely my best pre-basho showing.  Just horrible in NC and dropping out of makuuchi there, too.  4-11 in Bingo will send me back to makushita there.  3-12 in POG should have me back in Juryo.  69th of 88 in Roto.  28th of 65 in Oracle for my only other certain pre-basho KK.  9-6 in UDH as of day 13--shouldn't take a lot of luck to keep sekiwake there.

I can't imagine it can get much worse.

...only half a point worse.

GANBARIMASU for an anniversary of The Greatest Show on the Dohyo in March.  (I'm not holding my breath.)

Nope, Juryo players finished above average and as there are 13 KK with 8 or more wins your 7-8 definitely will be a MK.

Congrats to Chisha on the Juryo yusho. And I must say again, hats off to Ronnie for pulling off an amazing feat: 15 AADs out of 15. I don't have the time to check it out, but I think this is pretty rare. I know I did it myself once, but I don't remember ever putting 15 in that column for anyone else in the time I have been doing these stats. He also walked the overall scoring by 3 points. Good lad! A proud Centipede he is!

Don't have the energy to say much, but as you can see...we had an excellent basho.

Not a bad start to the year :-D

A couple of 11-4's in Bench and SG. Thank you for the bouquet Simon  (Sigh...)

A trio of 10-5's in DST, ISP (seriously good for me) and Toto (KaioU...)

Usual disasters in CG (Day 1) and TTT, but you can't have everything!

Hatsu'20 in a nutshell -->  disaster

DD MK's in almost all pre-basho games with Tokushoryu being my 6 pointer in UDH as the icing on the cake. Finishing 9-6 in Juryo game and a surprising 8-7 in Norizo Cup were the only exceptions.

Surviving 4 days in Chain was the best result among the daily games, rewarded with 3,63 SB Masters points. Nice turnaround in Seki-Toto from 2-6 on Nakabi to 9-6 on Senshuraku. 8-7 in Sumo Game (despite terrible picking) and Odd. The rest is silence.

Sanity has prevailed and we'll have sumo, although sadly without the fans in attendance. We've had a clear-out of sanyaku of Centipedal presence and so we now only have Yokozuna Pandaazuma and Sekiwake ScreechingOwl in the elite ranks. Owl is on an Ozeki run and he needs 10 wins, as does his fellow Sekiwake Bolo.

Not much in the way of promotions and demotions. Gansekiiwa went back to Makushita and he'll be wanting a quick return. Chelseayama and Gawasukotto are right on the brink of Juryo level and will need only 8 this time for the jump up. Sergio just missed out on a promotion to Makuuchi but he also will only need 8 this time for a return to the big time.

And eyes are on Stefan, who is now at his highest ever rank of top Maegashira. Can the Swedish Streaker get the 8 wins required to make the elite? He will have to beat plenty of top players to do so.

And we welcome a new Centipede. Another Steve, who goes by the shikona Kurowashi. He's a friend of mine who wanted to join in.

Get your lads registered before Saturday. See you on shonichi.

Sorry, STI.  Just put in my kyujo/kosho for the head-to-heads.  My data still isn't ready yet and I will have no time for it before more deadlines, and I'm not sure I really have the hour-ish every day for the 15 days of the tournament.

Also probably slightly demoralized from demotion to juryo in Bench.

I'll see about May, I suppose.
