Together with Okinoumi, who will be seen in the movie "Konshin" at the end of this year, increasingly more rikishi are disseminating the name of sumo outside the dohyo.

trailer

Edit: Okinoumi only appears in a bout on TV, which the people of Oki island were watching - at 68:40, the Aki 2011 day 2 win against ozeki Harumafuji, but with manufactured record: at 5-5 vs. 8-2  http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Rikishi_opp.aspx?r=6463#1111

NHK World is running a program on the sumo tradition in Tsugaru, Aomori Prefecture as part of the Journeys in Japan series:

I am a big fan of the series, "Journeys in Japan" and just saw this episode last night. すごかったですね。(awesome, wasn't it?) This tv series is excellent for those learning Japanese, as I am, because about a third of the program is always in Japanese with English subtitles. I thought the fellow who did this one was particularly good, culturally in-tune and he's clearly keen on sumo. I wish I could give it a try, like he did. I won't give away what happens...

I've visited Aomori city for a conference, and would now like to go to Tsugaru, maybe in the heat of the summer to see the Nebuta Matsuri! I'd actually come into this forum rto post the program and saw that Yamanashisan had beaten me to it. Thanks for the post.
