Injuries....

Recommended Posts

Is it just me or does there seem to be  a proliferation of highly touted rikishi  who have injured themselves and either have to retire or fight at less than full health?

Terunofuji is a prime example but there are many more..........

Avoiding injury seems more important for successful promotion than winning now........

That’s always been true in my opinion. I’ve said a few times before that Hakuhō was beating Harumafuji solely because he was uninjured while Harumafuji was a walking mummy. Kisenosato also had a mostly or almost entirely injury-free career I think and it got him to yokozuna in the end. Only rikishi I don’t understand is Gōeidō, he seems to never be injured (unless I’m wrong there?) and he’s even done a zenshō yūshō, but he’s so inconsistent with results. Granted, he’s still made it to ōzeki and held onto it this whole time, so can’t be doing too badly…

Well there is one case of comlng back from injury even stronger .....

I'm talking about Tochinoshin of course........

It seems that it was only after his return from injury that he lived up to expectations......

Chiyonokuni is another. Recurring injuries caused him to bob up and down between low makuuchi and juryo a couple of times, before ultimately falling as far as sandanme 28 from a high of maegashira 8. He’s now a makuuchi regular and just posted 12-3. He’s made it as a far as maegashira 1 along the way.

I've never thought of Chiyonokuni as a touted rikishi though but what do I know ?

Tochinoshin was a regular in my sumo games  but it was only after I gave up using him that he started his recent form and the yusho was a bit of a surprise.......The biggest since Kyokutenho.....

All I can say is about time.......

I guess it depends on what one means by highly touted. For some it’s just being good enough to become a sekitori (i.e. to take the barrier, to go inside the curtain) while for others it’s only those with potential to make the yaku ranks. :)

Well on a personal level if I hear about an up and coming rikishi who is expected to be a contender for Yokozuna or at least Ozeki ranks its a good sign that expecfations are high for him because I normally miss those(All my knowledge comes from this site)

I'm still scratching my head as to where Kakuryu came from before his promotion......

On the other hand Tetunofuji's yusho was not a surprise because of what I read here.......

What about Ikioi? He has two consecutive kachi-koshi fighting basically with one leg! 11-4 as Maegashira 14 on March and 8-7 as Maegashira 5 on May (he could barely walk after day 6).

This thread would be nicer if it had been posted in the correct section.

Sorry?

Based on what criteria?

It isn't clear to me which section it should be in........

This thread should be under Ozumo Discussions because it's not about an ongoing or imminent honbasho.

Sorry but it was an easy mistake to make......

I don't  know why Asashosakaari is making such a big deal of it.......

Its hardly a major crime,is It?

"This thread would be nicer if it had been posted in the correct section."

It's hardly making a big deal out of anything, is it? If anything, it's very to the point and polite.

Maybe I should have complained the previous three or four times you did it in just the last couple of months, too? Obviously you don't actually realize you've got prior form for this, so it was time to finally say something. (And yes, that was the polite version above - my first thought was to post something more drastic along the lines of "Will you ever manage to start a thread in the correct section again?")

Anyway, you've been here for 15 years, if you still don't understand how the forum works, maybe you should just stop creating new threads and post only in those that already exist.

"Someone got out the wrong side of bed this morning." (And yesterday)

Maybe if you mentioned it the first time I wouldn't have repeated it..........

(That's my polite reply}

No need to apologise to me.

I doubt it was intended that way, but thought Asashosakari's original post came across as a bit po-faced.

"Mods, please move this thread to Ozumo Discussions" would have done the job and let Fujisan know where it should go.

I’m not fussed either and I agree with RabidJohn. It’s a pretty minor transgression and easily sorted.
