Fujisan 533 Posted June 1, 2018 Is it just me or does there seem to be a proliferation of highly touted rikishi who have injured themselves and either have to retire or fight at less than full health? Terunofuji is a prime example but there are many more.......... I’ve said a few times before that Hakuhō was beating Harumafuji solely because he was uninjured while Harumafuji was a walking mummy. Kisenosato also had a mostly or almost entirely injury-free career I think and it got him to yokozuna in the end. Only rikishi I don’t understand is Gōeidō, he seems to never be injured (unless I’m wrong there?) and he’s even done a zenshō yūshō, but he’s so inconsistent with results. Recurring injuries caused him to bob up and down between low makuuchi and juryo a couple of times, before ultimately falling as far as sandanme 28 from a high of maegashira 8. Tochinoshin was a regular in my sumo games but it was only after I gave up using him that he started his recent form and the yusho was a bit of a surprise.......The biggest since Kyokutenho..... I doubt it was intended that way, but thought Asashosakari's original post came across as a bit po-faced.
