Placing Tochi in the O2w slot balances the East and West sides of the banzuke. Kisenosato will be Y2E just like he was for may, no reason to change him

Yubinhaad 11,546 Posted June 4, 2018 Tochinoshin's Ozeki acceptance took place in front of the same alcove as the last time Kasugano had an Ozeki promotion (the double promotion of Tochinoumi and Tochihikari in 1962). Even the kakejiku (hanging scroll) is still there, albeit rather obscured in the old picture. 7
Gurowake 3,923 Posted June 4, 2018 I'm guessing that's Tochinoumi's Yusho portrait from Natsu 1962 in the background of that old picture, but I wouldn't have thought it would have been done by then. It looks like it says Showa 37 = 1962, although maybe it's a different regnal name as it's all a blur and the portrait is much older.

Squinting at the picture, I'm 95% sure the visible part of the caption is 'Showa 37, May', so I think your instinct is right on this one.

That's just the placeholder picture they receive at the yusho ceremony, isn't it?

For reference (Hatsu 2018): For comparison, the finished article with a "proper" pose (and different kesho-mawashi) replacing the stock image: Edited June 5, 2018 by Asashosakari
Bumpkin 438 Posted June 6, 2018 I don't speak Japanese. Did the Japanese gentleman say, "Hatsu Basho?"
