Kintamayama 44,387 Posted May 1, 2018 (edited) Yokozuna Kisenosato trained at home today with Takayasu, but they stopped after 4 bouts after Takayasu complained of a right shoulder pain. Kisenosato was leading 4-0 at that time, using his favorite left hand grip. "I'm feeling good. I was able to move my body well during the jungyo, and the same goes for today.." he said. Later in the afternoon, at the KKan, the rijikai and a special function were held. In conjunction with a live performance of the new Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the rikishi were holding babies and people were taking pictures. The plan was to show that classical music relaxes babies. Didn't work for Kisenosato, though. Every baby he held immediately started wailing. "Even after doing this so many times, I can't get used to it.. " he mumbled, smiling wryly. Sergeant O'Reilly: Edited May 1, 2018 by Kintamayama 6

Kintamayama 44,387 Posted May 4, 2018 Kisenosato went for degeiko at Kasugano today and was totally wiped out by Tochinoshin, 2-9. His two wins weren't that good either, one coming off a last ditch throw and the other a rare good tachiai and inside grip yorikiri win. Tochinoshin was totally in charge in all his wins, looking strong. Kisenosato was cursing very loudly, frustrated. "Today I was focused on pushing like when I was up and coming, but it wasn't all that good.. I still have a long way to go," he said later. TV commentator Ex-Mainoumi was there. "Not looking good, going by today's keiko content. When he gets his mawashi taken he can't do much. He is struggling. He is not getting better. He's at a point where he doesn't know what to do to get back on track. I think it's better if he doesn't enter Natsu," he said. Kintamayama 44,387 Posted May 4, 2018 Kakuryuu went for degeiko to Tokitsukaze beya today, concentrating on his tachiai. 18 bouts against the likes of Yutakayama , winning them all. His injured right ankle is much better and he was seen coming in low, grabbing the front of his opponent's mawashi and quickly pushing him out. "My tachiai is sloppy at times.I will be proceeding with caution," he said. His injured right hand finger is also better. He is aiming for his first consecutive yusho. "I've failed a few times before, so i'll be going out there feeling like a challenger," he said. With Yutakayama, and there's Shoudai looking worried: 2
Kintamayama 44,387 Posted May 4, 2018 Hakuhou trained with two of the lower rankers of his heya today, winning all 10 bouts. "I was more or less taking it easy but then I felt my engine was good and I was moving well" he said later. 3

Akōgyokuseki 227 Posted May 4, 2018 Going back to Kakuryu, I really hope he can relax and not allow himself to step back to often. It would be nice to see him return to throwing as opposed to his usual step back and pull the opponent down approach of the last two basho. Winning the last tournament has hopefully calmed his nerves..(?) We shall see...
Kintamayama 44,387 Posted May 5, 2018 (edited) Kisenosato stayed at home today-no sumo, just the fundamentals-shiko, suriashi and practiced getting a grip, all this outside of the dohyo with the young ones. "This is so I can do some keiko tomorrow.. , " he said. The Nishonoseki Ichimon rengo-keiko will commence on Monday the 7th. As for degeiko or where it may be tomorrow-"I will decide tomorrow," he said. Edited May 5, 2018 by Kintamayama
Kintamayama 44,387 Posted May 5, 2018 Goueidou faced Endou who came for degeiko, beating him 18-3 and looking very strong. "He's a strong rikishi, so it was a great session. I'm still not totally ready, but we have another week," said Goueidou later. 2

Kintamayama 44,387 Posted May 6, 2018 Ozeki Takayasu isn't doing so great either. He has been bothered by a right shoulder injury lately. He went for degeiko to Tokitsukaze beya today and faced ex-Sekiwake and current Makushita Toyonoshima and was 4-3 (!!!).. Then, he faced Yutakayama, Shoudai and Nishikigi for 25 bouts, going 13-12. He took two breathers in the middle, probably due to shoulder pains and was seen trying out all kinds of tactics. He was seen grimacing at times, and was rolled over and easily yorikiried at times, together with some hearty throws he executed. "Today's theme was moving forward and attacking, but I was under attack a lot. I'm far from ready yet. I shall go all out from tomorrow. My shoulder is OK," he observed. 2

Kintamayama 44,387 Posted May 7, 2018 Hakuhou participated in the Isegahama Ichimon rengo keiko held at Isegahama today, facing the likes of Kaisei, Takarafuji, Kyokutaisei, and Homarefuji Terutsuyoshi from Juryo, 13 bouts, won them all. "So-so," he said later. His back- to- traditional tachiai seems to be working better now, better than before Hatsu basho. says the guy, Me? I say he's out of Natsu. Kintamayama 44,387 Posted May 7, 2018 Kisenosato came to the Nishonoseki Ichimon rengo keiko held at Oguruma beya today and beat Yoshikaze in all their nine bouts. "I rested my body well yesterday and that was good. I'm more or less OK. My tachiai was good and I'm mostly better now. A few more adjustments. My arm is OK and I've been able to use my lower body too," he summed. Ex-Mainoumi was still not impressed. "Winning like this won't cut it. Still, we can never know the real situation till the basho starts.." he said. Me? I say he's out of Natsu. 2
Akōgyokuseki 227 Posted May 7, 2018 Kakuryū the lone yokozuna again? Unless his hand goes, he was clutching that water bottle awfully tight in the other thread... It would be nice to see all 3 yokozuna, but Kintamayama's prognosis has me worried lol
