Pretty insane that I break my opponent at 2 and score a goal but could still lose if Brazil draw. I need Brazil to win and Japan to get some kind of miracle result from Belgium or I lose 2-1. The drawbacks of having an inferior squad. :(

Surely the most likely result now is that Belgium and Brazil both win within 90 minutes, so I would hardly say you have an inferior squad anymore.... ;-)

Ye-Olde-Crystal-Ball (TM) now has our match ending in a penalty shoot out, but then it was also wrong about the Uruguay-Portugal game! ;-)

Yes a shoot-out looks likely, now. My comment on inferiority was mostly inspired by the fact that your R team is an almost certain winner while mine is its opponent. Plus the fact I have three (now four thanks to Argentina) guaranteed losers! If I had got my Uruguay prediction wrong, it would be curtains already!

Aaaarrrghhhh....

You can be surprised, as I made a mistake while sending my lineup, and this is not exactly the lineup I wanted to use. If I lose this match, that will learn me to be more careful...

The answer is YES. Chosing Spain for this game was made when they were coached by Lopetegui. I never liked Hierro when he was active for Real and now as a manager he was crap. I simply should have benched them....

Halftime report

No need to wait for the second day to end - it was clear right from the start that there won't be any goals in the first half in either of these two matches. One thing is certain though: Benihana definitely needs a win by his Swedes to stay alive.

For your convenience:

On 2.5.2016 at 07:36, Jejima said:

Rules for the round of 16.

We play with the same rules as for the group stages (® and © teams keep their special attributes) - based on the results after 90 minutes.

Any empty slots at the end of a players' squad are treated as 'losses'. (Theoretically, a player could have twelve teams (original 11 + the extra pick) in World Cup or nine teams (8+1) in Euros still in his/her squad, but this is unlikely. It is likely, however, that one player in a match-up will have more teams in his squad than his/her opponent. The difference in the number of teams are treated as 'losses' to the player with the shorter squad. I.e. If Player A has 7 teams and Player B has 5 teams, Player B's slots 6 and 7 are treated as 'losses'.)

If a player's © or ® team is facing an empty slot on his opponents line-up (so counted as an automatic 'loss' for the opponent), and that team loses, then the player with © or ® teams does not have his/her chain broken.

Extra time
Should the match end in a tie after 90 minutes, the players go into 'extra-time'. The results *after 120 minutes* from the real matches are now used (Matches won by a penalty shoot-out, are still considered 'drawn').

Extra time starts with the next slot after the place where the second team to have their chain broken, was broken. (I.e. Player A's chain broke on the 2nd slot. Player B's chain broke on the 5th slot. Extra time for both players starts from the 6th slot.) From that point onwards, all matches are considered after the 120 mins result (or 90 mins, if it did not go that far). If either chain remains unbroken (including the default losses to fill the empty slots) to the last team in the squad, the chain continues starting from the first slot again.

However, all real matches that were decided in 90 minutes are now removed (so only the matches that had previously counted as 'draws', but which may now have a result after the 120 minutes, are now counted for this second run through). These removed matches are now treated the same as 'draws' for the purpose of this game - with the special rules for removed for ® and © teams. This 'start again' only happens once.

® and © teams keep their 'special rules' in extra time. (I.e. an ® team getting a draw in the 90 minutes, may break the player's chain, but if they go on to win in extra time - if that match is considered for a second time - they could end up scoring two goals in extra time for the player. Similarly, a player whose © team scored a goal for a draw during 90 minutes of regular play, could end up scoring a second goal in extra time, should the © team also draw over 120 minutes).

Penalties. If there is still a tie after extra time between the two players, we go to a penalty shoot-out. See below.

Round of 16 Penalty Shoot-out

If the round of 16 match ends in a 'draw' after extra time, there is a penalty shoot-out.

For this, you need to predict which teams you think will make it to the quarter-finals. The list of 11 penalty takers needs to be sent by email or PM before the first match of the Group Stages. (i.e. before the very first match of the tournament.)

These are the teams that you think will make it to the quarter-finals in the order of likelihood. So, if you think that England are definitely going to reach the quarter-finals, put them in first position.

Penalty shoot-outs will be done in this way....
The first five teams in each player's line-up, will be used. If a team has reached the quarter-finals, it scores its penalty (so you can score your first five penalties), if it hasn't reached the quarter-final, it misses. If there is a tie after the first five penalties, it is sudden death from the sixth team onward. If it is still a tie we go back to the first team on the list to continue the sudden death. After that it is the player with the fewest red cards, then fewest yellow cards that progresses. After that, it is the player that did best in the group matches, that progresses. If still evenly matched, then, the player who has/had the lowest ranked ® team at the start of the tournament will progress.

The deadline for the list of penalty takers for the round of 16 matches is time of the first kick-off of the first match of the tournament.

Anyone missing this deadline, gets a yellow card (as per the fair play rules). Anyone not entering a penalty taker line-up before the first match of the tournament kicks off will be 'assigned' a penalty taker list in the reverse order of the player's teams' odds at the start of the tournament, as previously given. (I.e. the lower Maegashira pick first, with the Yokozuna pick last, and no team for slot 11 for 'Bench World Cup', and no teams for slots 9, 10 and 11 for 'Bench Euros'.)

Round 16 - Matches 7 and 14
Refioji Nekonishiki - Day 2

It is still too early to say anything about Match 7, we have to wait until tomorrow.

Match 14 is over for Kintamayama, his chain broke in Slot #1. Jakusotsu sits back in his chair, but still has to wait until Tuesday.

Refioji Jejima I:
BWC16  Match 5:
Polimasa (Iran)

Polimasa: 1.) Croatia, 2.) France (C)3.) Spain (S1)4.) Switzerland, 5.) Argentina6.) England, 7.) Sweden
Comment: Thanks and Good Luck!
vs
Furanohana (Uruguay)

Furanohana:  1 France ; 2 Mexico ; 3 Russia ; 4 Uruguay (R)  ; 5 Brazil (S1) ; 6 Sweden ; 7 Portugal ; 8 Argentina ; 9 Japan (C)
Comment:  Thanks

Jejima:  GOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLL!  Furanohana has scored a goal!  But the game is not over yet.  The key fixture for today is Brazil vs Mexico.  Furanohana needs a Mexico win or draw to extend his chain to his winning (R) team.  A win or draw for Brazil, and Polimasa will score a goal.  All to play for!

BWC16  Match 6:
Pitinosato (Croatia)

Pitinosato: 1. Belgium, 2. Spain, 3. Croatia (R):'-(, 4. England, 5. Sweden, 6. Mexico
Comment: After 9 Points in the Group stage and no Goals against my cement defense, I am pretty confident to win this one (Punkrocker...)
With 6 against 8 Teams ???
But mine seem to be the better one's !?
Who knows in this WorldCup....
I hope to win in 90 minutes, the Stamina from Slot 7 on is not the best....
vs
Bozhanitakara (Australia)
Bozhanitakara:
1.) Switzerland, 2.) Spain (S1), 3.) Uruguay, 4.) France , 5.) Argentina (C)6.) Portugal, 7.) Russia , 8.) Sweden
Comment:  Thanks!

Jejima:  Croatia's draw in normal time means that Pitinosato's chain will be broken on the third link - where Bozhanitakara could score a goal.  Key fixture tonight is Belgium vs Japan.  If Belgium in regulation time lose, Pitinosato will lose too.  Yes, Boz needs a 90 minute win from Japan to guarantee a victory.  In this world cup of upsets, that could happen!   Great expectations indeed for Boz.*

Refioji Atenzan Jejima II:
BWC16  Match 8:
Maeden (Colombia)

Maeden:  1. Spain (S1), 2. England, 3. Mexico, 4. Sweden, 5. Argentina :'-(, 6. Colombia (R), 7. Japan
vs
Achiyama (Panama)
Achiyama:  1. Brazil (C), 2. Switzerland, 3. Colombia, 4. Portugal, 5. Russia, 6. Spain (S1), 7. Argentina

Jejima: Still not much to report, as neither player has posted a 'winner'.  Tonight the key fixture is Brazil vs Mexico.  A win or a draw in 90 minutes for Brazil, and Achiyama will score a goal!  A normal time win for Mexico, and Achiyama's chain will be broken before it gets started!

BWS16  Match 10:
Haidouzo (Denmark)
Haidouzo: 1. Brazil (S1), 2. England, 3. Argentina, 4. Colombia, 5. Russia, 6. Japan, 7. Denmark (R)
vs
Tanetakahiro (Nigeria)

Tanetakahiro: 1. Belgium, 2. France (S1), 3. Colombia (C), 4. England, 5. Mexico, 6. Japan

Jejima: Not much to add since yesterday.  Tanetakahiro still looks dangerous with that FRance win in 2nd link.  Both matches tonight are big ones, as each player has one of the temas in first chain.  Possibly Belgium vs Japan is slightly the key fixturfe, as at least a draw in 90 minutes will connect Tanetakahiro to his winning 2nd link.

*Well done to anybody who got that reference.

Kuroelwin scored a goal with Denmark today, but we will have to see how the chains break to learn if it stands. Mexico plays on day 3 but the others don't appear until day 4.

With Belgium, Brazil and Mexico all in action on day 3, things will come more into focus soon.

World Cup R16 Match:

Nantonoyama vs Bae Dat:

Croatia's draw now makes it impossible for Bae Dat to claw back any goals and so we have an early winner. The final score is not yet determined. Well done to Nantonoyama, who can now enjoy the next round, and will surely go far with France as his R team!

World Cup Bowl R16 Match:

Fujiko vs Fi Lik

Still too early to call as the Switzerland result will almost certainly determine things. Both have scored goals lower down the order but they may not count as Fujiko's chain could easily be broken at 1.

After 57 minutes, Match 3 of the Cup Octofinals is already decided:

Krisachiyama 2:0 Benihana
(Brazil) (Sweden)

Uruguay W ?: Sweden ®
Brazil ® W 2:x L Mexico ©
Argentina L Ø:Ø L Argentina
Sweden :x L Portugal
England 0:x W Uruguay
Denmark D 0:x Japan
                      :x W Brazil (S1)

Benihana might score one goal in slot 1 with his ®-team, but Krisachiyama's chain won't be broken and he is bound to score two goals in slot 2, breaking Benihana's chain for sure. Depending on Sweden, the final score here will be either 3:0 or 3:1.

Goal in BWS16  Match 11 after 75 minutes:

Finngall 0:1 Chocshoporyu
(Switzerland) (South Korea)

Belgium W 0:0 W Belgium ©
Croatia D 0:1 W Brazil (S1)
Brazil (S1) W ?: England
Portugal L 0: Switzerland

For 74 minutes it looked like Chocchie's chain would break, but then Belgium finally learned how to handle the intrepid Japanese. Chocshoporyu now leads 1:0 by grace of Brazil, but the match is still pretty much open.

Round of 16 - Matches 4, 15, 16
Refioji Fukurou - Day 3

Cup Match 4
image.png.0e22e75bd9b7b2441516fecafec5c0fa.png
Belgium and Brazil both won, but all that did was allow Chijanofuji to catch up to Pandaazuma's lead and tie the match. His chain is broken at Slot 2, so there will be no more scoring for Chijanofuji. He's hoping for a Switzerland loss which will end the match in a tie. If Switzerland is in a draw, then Chijanofuji will be hoping the 3 losses in the final 4 slots will come back to haunt Pandaazuma.

Saucer Match 15
image.png.7ad4c24b26b7edeb6cc9877cfe76ebfe.png
Andonishiki's team has finished play, and Kuroelwin has 1 preliminary goal in hand. Andonishiki needs both England and Columbia to not win their matches to have a chance at at least a draw. If England loses, Andonishiki can win outright.

Saucer Match 16
image.png.d44c837e98148b14da5261ee6907c06b.png
No goals were scored in Slots 1 and 2 today. Suwihuto-drone has a possible point in Slot 3 from Brazil's win, but Boltono has England(R) coming up in the same Slot - and Suwihuto has them against Spain in Slot 4. Both sides include Sweden too. Could it come down to Switzerland? This may be another close one!

Lycka till!

Edit Match 4 comments, because Slot 3 is not the same thing as Slot 2

Correct me if I'm wrong, but:

I need England to lose in 90 minutes and break his chain right there to take it to PKs.  I can't score any more goals beyond the 3 slot because either a) Switzerland wins or draws and breaks my chain in the 4 slot or b) Switzerland loses, breaking my chain at #5 regardless of the ENG-COL result due to it being my (R) team.  If his chain doesn't break at 3, I give up a goal at slot 4 if Switzerland wins, at slot 6 if Sweden wins, or in both slots in case of a draw.

Jejima: Haidouzo must have thought he had the match in the bag - right until the 74th minute.  But with Belgium's impressive turn-around, Tanetakahiro is back in the game....    But hang on....  If (in 90 minutes) Colombia wins tonight, Tanetakahiro will win 2-0.  If Colombia vs England is a draw, Tane will win 1-0.  If England win that match, then Tane will win 1-0 on the fourth slot.  Unless I am seeing something wrong, I am going to call an early winner - well done Tanetakahiro!  Haidouzo can pack his bags - his plane awaits!  All we are waiting for now is to see whether this game ends 0-1 or 0-2.

Thanks to Fukurou for pointing it out.  Haidouzo still has a chance if England defeat Colombia in normal time.

BWS16  Match 10:
Haidouzo (Denmark)
Haidouzo: 1. Brazil (S1), 2. England, 3. Argentina, 4. Colombia, 5. Russia, 6. Japan, 7. Denmark (R)
vs
Tanetakahiro (Nigeria)

Tanetakahiro: 1. Belgium, 2. France (S1), 3. Colombia (C), 4. England, 5. Mexico:'-(, 6. Japan

I think there may be a 0-0 tie possibility.  After day 3 there is no score from Slot 1. On day 4, if England wins vs Columbia, there will be no scoring from slot 2 either (scoring table 1). Columbia's loss will break Tanetakahiro's chain in slot 3 (It's his C) while Haidouzo's chain does not break (table 3). Columbia's loss will break Haidouzo's chain in slot 4 (table 1).  The match is over, the score is is 0-0.

Haidouzo                       Tanetakahiro
1. Brazil (S1)  W   0-0   1. Belgium W
2. England      W   0-0   2. France (S1) W
3. Argentina   L    0-0   3.  Columbia (C) L
                                        break ^^^^^^
4. Columbia   L    0-x    4. England W
break ^^^^^^

I am about to take Peter (Bae Dat) to the park so I can't check fully now - but I think you almost certainly correct - I forgot about the (C) rules....

Back from the park....

Yes, Fukurou is correct.

You're right, the best you can hope for is a draw in regular time. But then a loss by England and win by Switzerland gives you the upper hand in extra time.

World Cup R16 Match:

Nantonoyama vs Bae Dat:

Nantonoyama scores a goal through Uruguay at 4. This match is already decided in his favour so we only await the final score.

World Cup Bowl R16 Match:

Fujiko vs Fi Lik

Three goals have now gone in here and it is currently 2-1 to Fi Lik but that Argentina loss for Fujiko at 1 will be tested tonight. Fi Lik just needs a Switzerland draw to wrap this up.

Day 4 Half-time Update - with results

Saucer Match 15 has no changes - Everything depends on the England-Colombia result.  On the other hand.....

Cup Match 4
image.png.217dbf82d428109fea0adc70b397c72f.png
The loss by Switzerland broke Pandaazuma's chain in slot 3. Although Colombia has not played yet, this match will end as a 1-1 draw in regular time. Extra time and/or PK results will be posted later.

Saucer Match 16

This match is over (I think) - it does not matter what the outcome is for England, droning-Suwihuto will win. Final score to be determined.
