Chankomafuji 51 Posted March 11, 2018 Very, very happy about Kakuryū. Tamawashi looked strong, he will be looking for revenge tomorrow.
Jyuunomori 226 Posted March 11, 2018 The best part was definitely Murray's and John's snark. Good lord, I could listen to you guys for hours and not get bored. Also, Tochinoshin and surprisingly Kakuryuu look strong.
Yatagarasu 352 Posted March 11, 2018 4 hours ago, Valdenor said: Sad for the loss of Enho in his first day in Juryo. I hope that it does not disturb his sumo for the following days. The adversary was heavier than him and Enho had a hard time in his attempts to surround him. The final attempt to win was cool yet. He's in sekitori now - it's a big jump, especially as he'd been cruising pretty much unopposed until now. Plus the pressure of the spotlight, the weight of expectation and a new and uncomfortable mawashi to get used to moving in. But I think he was nervous and he admitted as much afterwards. If he can chill out then he will do better. I was stunned by Endo though. Probably as stunned as Takayasu was.
dada78641 884 Posted March 11, 2018 Really glad Kakuryuu managed to pull off a convincing win. The last basho was "officially" make or break for him, and he ended with a barely acceptable result. If he gets 9-6 this basho, I think he will still be asked to resign. Also, excellent work by Ichinojou, turning his match against Kotoshogiku around at the edge after the latter pulled a good HNH. Morty 1,483 Posted March 11, 2018 Which rikishi has the best roll when they hit the floor? Arawashi or Kotoyuki? (definitely not Yoshikaze who usually ends up landing on his head). Ichinojo looked strong today. He handled the Geek with ease.

Kasugaryu has twirled the bow at jungyo events before but this will be his honbasho debut. Anyone else feel that today's yumitori-shiki was, erm, somewhat lacking in grace today? Let's hope he'll grow into it, but I'm missing Satonofuji already. 4

Philioyamfugi 378 Posted March 11, 2018 (edited) Sorry I missed the live NHK world broadcast.. Set the alarm, but just was not happening. Terinofuji looks very sad, his ass seems to have imploded just no strength in those legs. For someone once considered one of the strongest rikishi, sad to see. Gagamaru doing plow ahead sumo.. Nice. Takayasu looked lost, seems to have weak starts. Liking Kakuryuu more and more, should be his basho to lose. Edited March 11, 2018 by Philioyamfugi

He's now assumed Harumafuji's old role of turning up to represent the yokozuna, battered as he may be, when the others went kyujo (cf. Wacky Aki). For that alone, they will go easy on him. Rocks 1,807 Posted March 11, 2018 Ichinojo looked the best day 1. Very calm. Giku almost had him twice and Ichinojo just sloughed it off. Giku couldn't move him. It was funny watch @Kintamayama video when he said "Could this be his basho?" when Aoiyama won. I expected him to repeat that for each winner of the bout because it almost seems like anybody could win this. 12-3 is going to be a heck of a score this basho I think. Not only would he not be asked to retire with a 9-6 this basho, if he started losing, inexplicably decided not to go kyujo, and ended up 6-9, he wouldn't be asked to retire yet. Though the YDC would be a bit grumpy with him. He's doing them an enormous favor just by showing up the first week, if he actually posts a winning record, he's fine, at least for now. They'll want 10 wins if he competes in May.

Ichinojo has been looking good since the last basho. He has become "unmovable" of late. I liked Mitakeumi's win. He needs a double digit win basho. Terunofuji starting with a loss at juryo .... hmm. Marcus33 10 Posted March 11, 2018 I still like Tochinoshin for the win. Strong as usual, not so fat as to make himself clumsy, and his injuries don't seem to be bothering him. I just don't see kakuryu lasting the whole basho.

Akinomaki 40,030 Posted March 12, 2018 (edited) It looks very unlikely that Ikioi will reach kachi-koshi with that injury - maybe he just makes it through the whole basho. NHK said that he injured the leg during keiko before the basho. Edited March 12, 2018 by Akinomaki
yutarotanaka 104 Posted March 12, 2018 What's with Tochiozan's right pectoral area? That area seems to have a wound often. It's like a vampire tried to bite him but missed his neck and landed somewhere above his right breast area.
