This makes 3 partial or complete absences in a row for him.

Sd64e Fujikawa (kimetaoshi loss Day 1)
Jd49e Uminishiki (yoritaoshi loss Day 2)

The Fujikawa and Uminishiki kimarite are the kinds I don't like to read in connection with a kyujo announcement...

And those fears were well-founded as both men suffered knee injuries in the losses. For Uminishiki it was an anterior cruciate ligament in the left knee, and he has had surgery. No detailed info on Fujikawa.

Shinohara suffered a fractured eye socket (眼窩内側壁骨折) in keiko right before the basho, too late to inform the torikumi committee so he was doomed to a fusenpai today.

Veteran Daigonishiki is again in "poor physical condition" (体調不良), same as in Kyushu if I remember correctly. He'll have to enter the basho later if he can, otherwise he'll drop off the banzuke.

Finally, Makuuchi gyoji Shikimori Yonokichi is kyujo for the second basho in a row as he continues to recover from his own episode of poor physical condition.

Day 3

And yet, those injured rikishi mentioned in Yubinhaad's post are still in the basho. OTOH, these rikishi are not:

Ms58e SHINOHARA (0-1, fusen day 1)
Sd5w CHIYORAIZAN (0-1, fusen day 1)
Sd24w SADANOHIKARI (0-1)

Not sure what you mean: neither Fujikawa nor Uminishiki even entered this basho with their injuries, they dropped out last basho after getting injured which was what Yubinhaad was referring to.

Let's just say I read Yubinhaad's message differently, and I don't cross-reference to the kyujo list.

The NSK has published the medical certificates for Kisenosato and Hakuho. To recover, Kisenosato needs 4 weeks for the injury to the left pectoralis-major muscle, Hakuho 3 weeks for arthritis of the left toe.

For Onosho it says "Forbidden to do sumo from the 11th to the 25th" with damage to the right knee ligament. http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2018/03/12/kiji/20180311s00005000353000c.html

That's good, Tochiozan can use the rest in addition to the win. I was afraid Tochiozan would be withdrawing himself.

Thanks to Bumpkin for posting about Kotoyuki's late withdraw on day 4.

Day 5

Ms43w HOTSUKASA (0-0-2, from day 1) becomes the first rikishi to return to (or rather begin) the tournament.

Sd77e DEWANOJO (0-2), meanwhile, withdraws as of day 5.

After they said he needed a week's rest for a leg injury. I bet that will go spectacularly well.

Kagamio seemed to suffer a left leg injury when he fell awkwardly at the end of his bout against Toyohibiki, hard to tell if it was knee or hamstring though.

Ryubu also got injured in his last bout, the heya reports a dislocated knee.

Is this the twin being noticed for his poor attitude when losing, not bowing correctly or not at all?

I believe that's his brother, Takagenji. The two of them together representing their sport and their oyakata's lofty standards of conduct and sportsmanship in exemplary fashion.

That's Takagenji, this twin atleast had the decency to nod when entering the ring when I paid attention, I had hope with this one as I liked his silly shikona. Oh well.

This still isn't up on the NSK kyujo page. Anyone seen anything officially official?
