Kintamayama 45,441 Posted August 14, 2018 Kadoban Ozeki Tochinoshin has joined the jungyo today. He has been training at his heya but has not done any real sumo, other than the fundamentals. Today, he lent his chest to Goueidou, Tobizaru and some lower rankers. "It still hurts a bit," said Tochinoshin regarding his left toe. He did not take part in the torikumi. "The next two weeks are important. I'd like to slowly build up my body," he said. "I've lost about ten kilos since the injury. I was out in Tochigi Prefecture with the heya, where it's nice and cool and was able to build up an appetite and eat well.I was able to eat three bowls of rice, after a long time and hope to add 5-6 kilos by Banzuke announcement day (27th)," he added. Kintamayama 45,441 Posted August 14, 2018 (edited) Ozeki Goueidou was suffering from a left ear infection and didn't do any serious keiko so far. Today, a week later than expected, he was at it against Yutakayama, 9-0. "Last week, I had this middle ear inflammation (tympanitis), where I had difficulty hearing and it felt like it was filled with water, so I refrained from doing any sumo. It's gotten a lot better so today I did sumo, lent my chest, and generally had no problems at all. I'm in good shape!" he declared. Three thousand cheering fans saw him getting five minutes of "tough love" from Yokozuna Kakuryuu. Every time he was rolled to the ground, the crowd cheered even more, until he received a standing ovation after it was all over. "I'm glad to be able to return to Iwate as a sekitori. It's cool that small children will not have to ask 'who's that?' when they see me now.." said Nishikigi, smiling. He neglected to answer my question regarding the fact that he seems to be in every single jungyo photo. "Go away.." he said. "Miss Piggy," I said under my breath. And ran. Kintamayama 45,441 Posted August 15, 2018 Ichinojou has joined the jungyo as we found out yesterday. His back is giving him problems. The reason seems to be that he is now 230 kilos, and he says those extra 10 kilos are the cause of his worries. "It's an old injury. I did some rehabilitation at the heya and it's much better now," he said. "I'd like to get back to 220 kilos. Kintamayama 45,441 Posted August 15, 2018 Today in Iwate again. Kisenosato, Goueidou and Kakuryuu did real sumo today. Kisenosato was 9-1 against Sadanoumi. Jungyo Chief Kasugano was quite talkative. "If you can become healthy by doing sumo, you will do the best you can. I hope they take the initiative and regain their strength!" he said, old school-ly. "It is regretful that Kisenosato injured his foot a few days ago and could not train - nothing we can do about that. Still, his spirit of 'I will do it' and 'I shall gambarize!' is excellent. He is gradually getting better so at some point in this jungyo I would like to see some bouts between the Yokozunae and between the Yokozunae and Ozekis.." he added optimistically. Goueidou, who Kasugano Oyakata says is in the best shape of them all, was 5-0 against Yutakayama and 5-1 against Mitakeumi*. *=You know, Mitakeumi training records mean nothing.. Kintamayama 45,441 Posted August 16, 2018 (edited) The jungyo was in Aomori today. Kisenosato trained with Yutakayama for 12 bouts and was 11-1. He lost the first bout and won the next 11. "It was a good session. I just went with the feeling that I need to move forward, ever forward.. Yutakayama has become strong and hits well," he said. At some point, Kisenosato head -butted Yutakayama at the tachiai, causing a bump to appear over his right eye. "He has a very quick overarm right hand grip. I knew I had to prevent him from getting it, but I failed. His skill and weight were too much for me. When he gets your mawashi he's strong. The local boy of the day was Ounoshou, who received some "loving treatment butsugari" from Takayasu for 7 minutes, as the crowd wildly cheered for him. "In the middle of it I couldn't hear a thing, but I'm grateful.." he said later. "After my injury in January, my power has dropped considerably, but mostly thanks to Takayasu who has been training with me a lot, I feel some of that power has returned. I have also stopped worrying about getting injured again," he said. Another local boy is Aminishiki, who met many relatives today, and lent his chest to yet another local boy Homarefuji. He also visited his parents house last night, a 4 hour drive. "Every year I'm able to visit Aomori in this way and get to meet so many fans, and I'm thankful for that," he said, thanking the 2500 fans in attendance. It felt like a lot more.." he said. "Takayasu is heavy and has a long reach.. He has been keeping an eye on me me lately and I'm thankful for that," added Keikoman, the almost soy sauce. "I've been supported a lot more lately by the fans and I'm happy for their attention, but I have to keep going at my own pace and do what I can do to forge my body," he summed.. He faced Asanoyama and Shoudai for 16 bouts, going 10-6. 3-0 against Shoudai, 7-6 against Asanoyama, losing a lot due to his body being high. Still, when using his left he was strong. ""When using his left he was strong and I couldn't get a right hand grip," said Asanoyama. Kisenosato did not speak to the press. I daresay that the 7-6 against Asanoyama is probably his true form right now, which is not very promising.
