Just thought this was interesting.  This picture banzuke for the upcoming basho with Inousuke pictured in the middle - now available online at shop.kokugikan
Even with pending demotion/suspension I am guessing his name is on the itabanzuke as well?

They probably sent that design to the printers weeks ago. Might become a collector’s item of shame someday.

Like the recalled Hatsu posters that had Harumafuji still on it.

Inosuke is not on the torikumi for the first two days. Tomorrow he will receive his punishment. People in the know say he will probably not appear the whole basho. He will also not be participating in the dohyo matsuri tomorrow .

3 basho suspension for Inosuke - he handed in his resignation. It will be kept on hold till after Natsu, when the suspension is over and then get accepted.

Won't that bring it all back into public consciousness at the end of May, just when memory of the scandal is starting to fade?

Seems an odd decision to me, but then this is the NSK we're talking about...

"House arrest" till May.. He handed in his resignation before the meeting started but it will be accepted only in May after the suspension is over as reported, and he will not be payed for this time off. No replacement has been announced yet, so the sanyaku gyoji will fill in for now. Yesterday's dohyo-matsuri was officiated by Shikimori Kandayuu. Miyagino Oyakata who is Inosuke's oyakata and Kasugano Oyakata who was acting jungyo chief instead of Takanohana because of the Harumafuji scandal, were both severely reprimanded as well. The meeting lasted half an hour and Inosuke was present. "I think what I did to the Kyokai and the fans is inexcusable," he said.

Still can't find the contact lens?

He presumably won't be able to get another job in the meantime either, as he is still employed by the Kyokai.

That may be the main point-I was wondering what's the reasoning behind this.

What job would he be suitable for after this fallout happens?

I am genuinely curious as it would seem he surely must be persona non grata in sumo and I can't imagine there are that many other industries on his CV

I assume Shikimori Inosuke will be back on the dohyo in Nagoya. Or am I wrong?

according to @Akinomaki's post earlier and the article he linked (https://www.daily.co.jp/society/main/2018/01/13/0010893777.shtml), he's resigned.

That article is pretty crazy when you put it through google translate though:

"Inosuke did not rise to the ring, and he decided to leave the horny world." (Blinking...)

So those pics the last days were indeed the last we see of him on the doyho.

Shown after handing in his resignation today - hard to imagine he could withdraw it in May and go on as a gyoji: Japanese society would not forgive the NSK to act that way. With this move of not accepting the resignation at once, we will have a tate-gyoji Shikimori Inosuke also on the next 2 banzuke. And he gets to really live through his suspension - unpaid - before he's allowed to leave. Still, it is not more logical than the banzuke decisions of the present makers.

I have to think this has to do with some financial considerations. Does 2 more banzuke get him a better payout from the Sumo association? Or closer to the legal retirement age and a better pension from the state?

Perhaps the Kyokai is buying time.  They now have until May to figure out how to handle the vacuum at the top of the gyoji rankings.  I haven't been impressed by the refereeing at the current basho, and, as has been discussed, the Kyokai has already been struggling to find a replacement for the top tategyoji.  Now they have to find two replacements.  Does anyone think that Inosuke's resignation may not be accepted come May?  Definitely not likely in my mind, but the sport is currently in a bind!

What good is "severely reprimanding" overseers who could not possibly have prevented the incident from happening.  What needs to be done is change the system rather than hand out reprimands.  A prohibition on employees drinking in the company of underage employees would be a start...

The boss is always held responsible for acts of his employees - in sumo there is no time the members are not in (the world of )sumo, so the boss is to blame for everything that happens

Miyagino-beya's Shikimori Seisuke is 17.

Much more interesting would be the identity of the makuuchi gyoji who reported it to the NSK, a leading figure in the gyoji-kai, and how he learned of it o

As of course we could have guessed (but it was too obvious for a good joke), the tabloids know that a Takanohana-ichimon gyoji heard of it and reported it to the NSK. The young gyoji is said to be 16, having entered not yet 6 months ago.

http://www.zakzak.co.jp/spo/news/180119/spo1801190023-n2.html

ZakZak is presently printing a lot of stories about the gyoji: basic salary is 14 000 Yen a month, plus the costs for costumes, plus an allowance of 126 000 Yen for a starting gyoji. The allowance rises due to the tasks the gyoji is performing and the rating of his work, the basic salary also is according to rank: makushita 100 000, tategyoji 400-500 000. A juryo gyoji has over 6 million yen a year, a tategyoji is said to have 13 to 15 million.

Reports of an out-of-court settlement between the concerned parties being reached have made their way to the rijikai's ears, says very busy crisis committee head Kagamiyama.

Will the "out-of-court settlement" save Inosuke's career?  Tategyoji automatically submit their resignations whenever their calls are overturned by the judges, and those resignations are, to the best of my knowledge, never accepted.  Not sure, what the NSK will do come May.

In my mind, Kandayu did not make a great debut trying to fill in as the tategyoji...

Personally, I doubt it.  Compensation and punishment serve two different purposes.  The settlement is presumably to compensate the victim for the personal harm to him (in lieu of being sued and/or prosecuted).  The reputational harm to the NSK is another matter entirely, not to mention whether, as a responsible employer, they would want someone who acted that way working for them in the long term (or working in proximity to the victim for the foreseeable future).  Plus it would also leave the rather unpalatable taste of buying one's way out.  We'll see in May, I guess.  I, for one, wouldn't be sorry to see the back of him.

In May, he will still be suspended (suspension is for three basho, starting January).
My guess is that a final decision will be made after the May basho, dependent on the outcome of the candidates' trial appearances.
