Shikimori Inosuke sexual harassment and drink talk..

And the beat goes on. The head gyoji, the top gyoji, the highest ranked gyoji, 40th Shikimori Inosuke is being accused of sexually harassing a younger gyoji during the winter jungyo last December 16th. It seems he got drunk during dinner and "kissed his lips and touched his chest ", as it were, it was learned today. Other gyoji who knew about this came forward and reported it. The Kyokai will convene a special rijikai to see how to deal with this. In the meantime, he has apologized to the young gyoji who apparently is in shock. "I don't remember a thing - I was drunk.." said Inosuke. "Anyway, I am not interested in men so I have no idea how this could have happened..", he added. The victim has no intention of going to the police and pressing charges or of demanding Inosuke be punished by the Kyokai, but the Kyokai can't let this slide of course, now that it's out in the open. "I just gave a lecture on how we can't have people getting dead drunk and losing it and the top gyoji of all people shows no leadership?? Shameful!! He has been warned in the past about his drinking, yet he has done it again. Drinking himself senseless is not good.  As a gyoji, it is shameful!  " cried Hakkaku rijicho. The usual top gyoji is named Kimura Shounosuke, but that post has been empty for quite a while, and I am guessing the Kyokai knew EXACTLY why.

Perhaps this is the reason Hakuho hates him.

Shameful, indeed. I am of the school of thought that drunkenness is no excuse for bad behavior and for a senior gyoji to behave this way is just repugnant and reprehensible, if true. Yuck.

True, since he apologized.

Like the NSK needs another scandal at the moment!

Wonder if the younger gyoji worked up the confidence from Takanohana's playbook of reporting inside dirt to the outside world (i.e., police), or if it was riding the #metoo wake that has reached Japan.

And here I thought it was because of his merely borderline competence.

Everybody may be getting a promotion sooner than they were expecting if things go the way some of us think they might go.

The younger gyoji didn't report it- the gyoji-kai became aware of it and reported it. Seems like it did take them a few days, though..It happened on December 16th, so three weeks.

Denied. They are from the same heya, so if anything, the opposite.

That too, but what Hakkaku said tells us is this isn't his first transgression.

Miyagino Oyakata apologized for Inosuke's behavior. "While I will be guiding him, he has acted in an inappropriate manner and it is indeed regrettable. When he drinks, he loses his true character and I have warned him about this. I can only try to make him stop drinking. I will leave it up to the Kyokai to deal with his punishment" he said.

I would imagine he is at the center of a pretty bad drinking culture, but still hard to understand how a man of his age and his standing allows himself to get blackout-drunk like that.

Only the gyoji-kai knew, noone else, not even the jungyo-boss?

"I don't think he's gay. But he loves sake.." said Hakuhou about Inosuke today as he left the heya to go home. They have known each other for many years since they belong to the same heya, says the reporter, so I highly doubt Hakuhou "hated" Inosuke

An obvious insight that lawmakers (unfortunately) do not share (whyohwhy...).

If a situation of incapacity (may be the wrong legal term in English) is self-induced, punishment should be harsher IMHO.

Hah! When people drink, all too much of their true character is revealed when it escapes the repression imposed on it by social, economic and cultural conventions.
The "true character" of Kyokai members is even doubly repressed because they are drilled to act out an ancient culture in a world that has passed on. I wonder how many actually suffer mental health problems because of this?

Recent goyji scandal: March 29th 2010 then makushita Kimura Rinnosuke (now juryo Kimura Chishuu) was arrested for domestic violence and found guilty in October: he then got suspended for 2 basho, the following Kuyshu and Hatsu. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/201801060000144.html

http://www.sumoforum.net/forums/topic/20024-gyoji-arrested-for-assault/

We'll see if Inosuke gets (away with) suspensions - and if now somebody else gets promoted to Shonosuke soon to have a tate-gyoji at the basho

I skip the old pics of Inosuke at work (presuming he will still have a future in the NSK), and just post the list of all gyoji with rank, name, kana reading, real name and heya - made from http://www.sumo.or.jp/IrohaKyokaiMember/gyoji/

There will be a riji-kai in the near future to decide on how to deal with Inosuke

Miyagino-oyakata and Hakuho (after keiko) commented - the heya already has more than enough reprimands

201801060000667-w200_0.jpgo2b9c67bded7eae39b239b3aca99f4967-233x300.jpgo origin_1.jpgoo

201801060000667-w200_1.jpgo

with Harumafuji, the one already ousted by the scandal - Inosuke picked a bad time for misbehaving, and a tate-gyoji is like a yokozuna among the gyoji - with higher requirements for hinkaku than the makushita gyoji of 2010

Do we know the name of the "younger gyoji" who was allegedly assaulted?  And do we have any more details about where this happened and who else was present?  Seems like Harumafuji had his "incident" dissected in the press.  I guess tategyoji don't get the full treatment reserved for Mongolian Yokozunas... (Yes, I know: apples and oranges...  Just saying)

What information about the incident do you think is missing between Kintamayama's summary in the first post and the earlier post elsewhere? Seems pretty clear-cut that nobody else was around when it happened.

In any case, the junior gyoji is apparently under 20 and so will not be named due to regulations concerning the protection of minors. (Not that his identity would be particularly relevant even as an adult, so I'm not quite sure why you're asking.)
