Back in Nov/Dec 2014, two-thirds of us thought that Ichinojo would be Ozeki by January 2016....

Can he finally do it in 2018?

Please include your predictions in the comments below, and state what you think the actual rank of Ichinojo will be on the January 2019 banzuke.

Sticking around joi-jin/sanyaku in 2018 with two trips into sanyaku (hopefully (Signofapproval...)).

Best record 10-5, 4 KK, starting 2019 at S1W

M8W

Going to be a pretty average year for Ichinojo - maybe a little below average.

- he will be part of the Joi-jin on the Hatsu 2019 banzuke (exact rank: M4w)

- only three kachikoshi in 2018 because he is not good enough to kk with a joi schedule.

- best record: 11-4 (no big deal from a very low maegashira rank)

Poll closed - round-up

Four people think Ichinojo will make it to Ozeki this year!  The vast majority suspect he'll finish in the mid to upper reaches of the non-sayaku ranks.

Interestingly the biggest vote went for 3 KKs - so presumably also 3 MKS - so an up-and-down year could be in store!

The most popular prediction for the best record for Ichinojo for this year is 10-5 - feels about right!

Ichinojo's 2018 was, well, fairly average, I suppose...

Jan: M1W 10-5
Mar: K1E 9-6
May: S1W 8-7
Jul: S1E 8-7
Sep: S1W 8-7
Nov: S1W 6-9

He will almost certainly be ranked in the joi-jin (based on the past as seen at Sumo Reference, he will probably be ranked at either M1 or M2 - it will be M1W).  This was predicted by Shatsume, WAKATAKE, gijo, Benihana, Tenshinhan, I am the Yokozuna and ChickyStarr.

He managed 5 KK records, as predicted by hiroshitakubo and Rocks.

His best record in Makunouchi was 10-5, predicted by Shatsume, MumboJumbo, WAKATAKE, just_some_guy, Ryoshishokunin, Mutsu'ohideki, kawika, I am the Yokozuna and ChickyStarr.

Out of the players who guessed two out of three correctly, Shatsume came closest with the other question (4KK), as well as a good guess for Ichinojo's rank on the Jan 2019 banzuke (M3E).

So the Yusho goes to @Shatsume (Yushowinner...) with Jun-yushos to be shared between @WAKATAKE, @I am the Yokozuna and @ChickyStarr.

That seems to be a pretty harsh judgement considering that 2018 was easily Ichinojo's best year with regard to both consistency and rank. :-) Full respect to everyone predicting 4 or 5 KK by a  sanyaku-ranked Ichinojo with this 2017 track record

Jan: M13W 11-4
Mar: M7e 6-9
May: M9e 8-7
Jul: M6E 7-8
Sep: M6e 8-7
Nov: M4W 10-5
