Osunaarashi languished in Juryo for most of 2017.  In January 2018, he will probably be ranked in mid-Juryo...  But how high will he rise during the year?

Please leave a comment below, (including your votes.)

Please also predict the exact rank that he will be on the January 2019 banzuke.

No, it is an annual poll - I meant January 2019 banzuke.  Where will Osunaarashi be ranked one year from now....?

Edit:  (Thanks for the catch - I have changed 2017 to 2019 above.)

I think he’s too brittle for MMA. Like watching him a lot but I foresee him being a juryo regular. Anytime he starts moving up he gets hurt. J7 in Jan ‘19.

he will work his way up to Makuuchi and compete in Kyushu ranked M14 but will only get 6 wins and fall to J2 for the Hatsu 2019 banzuke

I see him making his way back up the banzuke, with five KKs over 2018.  He'll be ranked around M11W for January 2019.

I see him between M6 and M10 on the Hatsu 2019 banzuke. Everything depends on his health status of course. An injury-free Osunaarashi should climb up the banzuke again but Joi-jin seems a bit too high for him especially because of all the strong up-and-coming youngster.

He will achieve 4 KK in 2018 including a successful 10-5 makuuchi comeback from the bottom of the maegashira ranks (no special prize).

Hatsu 2019 rank: M8w

Poll closed - round-up

Apart from the two who thinks he will be retired before next year's January banzuke, we all think Osunaarashi will start next year at a rank higher than his rank for January 2018.  Most of us think he will be ranked either in upper Juryo or lower Makunouchi - with just three brave souls willing to predict he will ranked higher than M10!

Over half of us think he will get 4 KKs in 2018 - nobody predicts he will a get year full of KKs - nor a year full of MKs.

Nearly a third of us think he will never fight in Makunouchi in 2018!  Half of us think that he will get at least one KK in Makunouchi in 2018.

“Retire amidst controversy” needs to become an option on these polls...

I think I should have announced the wrap up for this poll a long time ago!

Osunaarashi went intai in March 2018, after a driving incident. More details here.

He will therefore not be ranked on the January 2019 banzuke, as predicted by chishafuwaku and Morty.

He got zero KKs in 2018. chishafuwaku came closest with 'one'.

Five players thought that he would not be fighting in Makunouchi in 2018 - including chishafuwaku and Morty.

Therefore @chishafuwaku can claim the yusho (Yushowinner...) for this poll and @Morty can claim the jun-yusho. (Secondprize...)
