O no show ... can't resist saying that. Yeah, the kid is impressive. His twin brother Takakeisho is also impressive and can someday be an Ozeki. But I think Mitakeumi will get there before the barrel brothers.
Shatsume 118 Posted November 14, 2017 (edited) Thoughts so far: Between Hakuho and Goiedo for the Yusho. Takayasu looks solid for his 8 wins, but nowhere near 100% ring sense yet. Kise had 'That look' again today, I reckon a 12-3 finish. Mitakeumi winning when getting that extra step in that he talks about, but toe obviously hurting. Onosho needs to read some Alexander Pope. Arawashi, dark horse? Aminishki is cool. Peace out. ~S I may actually also feel sorry for Terunofuji... Edited November 14, 2017 by Shatsume
Tiger Tanaka 226 Posted November 15, 2017 Really hard to watch Terunofuji right now as he is clearly in a ton of pain. He didn't mount a single offensive attack against Yoshikaze on day 3. There was a brief moment where Yoshi paused and instead of going on the attack, Terunofuji just waited and retreated further until the inevitable push out. 10 wins is essentially an impossibility at this point and the only question is will he continue to fight on one leg to prevent a tumble down the banzuke or go kyujo to start the healing process. Mitakeumi's stability is one of his best qualities, but it's clearly a little vulnerable with that toe injury at the moment. Thinking he will really fight to get those 8 wins, before some much needed rest into the new year. Top 3 are clearly Hak, Goeido, Takayasu at the moment (in that order in my opinion). Really looking forward to Kisenosato vs Takekeisho tomorrow, a true test to see really how close to full health Kise is against Takekeisho's fierce oshi attack.
mikawa 1,794 Posted November 15, 2017 Takakeisho has a very powerful oshi / tsuki-attack, but wasn't allowed to get into his stride yesterday. Not today though. It's difficult to watch Terunofuji at the moment, he looks a shadow of his former, kimedashi-able self. Aminishiki, on the other hand, is having a great basho so far. Morty 1,498 Posted November 15, 2017 Yoshikaze has been my favourite rikishi for a long time. But he deliberately head-butted Onosho 3 times in their bout today, and tried another two (they missed). He has always led with his head, but at this rate he is going to end up punchier than the worst past-his-prime boxer ever is, with more shadows on his brain than the average retired NFL lineman, and with more brain damage than Chris Benoit. He has so much scar tissue over his eyebrows it just opens up at the slightest contact these days. It is probably too late for him now - the damage is already done but I would kind of like him to stop before he really, really ends up not able to count beyond the number of fingers on his hands.
Philioyamfugi 378 Posted November 15, 2017 Takekeisho delivered a relentless attack, just too quick for Kisenosato today. Aminishiki...how far can he go !!
dada78641 884 Posted November 15, 2017 I'm glad that my man Hokutofuji is having a good basho. Ounoshou is impressive as always, and he just hasn't had the best of luck...I expect he'll start winning more from now.
ryafuji 815 Posted November 15, 2017 Very disappointing performance from Kisenosato today. Is he going to last the 15 days?
Dwale 419 Posted November 15, 2017 Alright! We've had some excellent matches today. I would say the basho has really heated up. I would hard pressed to pick a favorite. Arawashi v. Ichinojo was a nail-biter (gasp...GASP!). Ichinojo + fighting spirit is a scary thing. But Onosho v. Yoshikaze and Takarafuji v. Tochinoshin were also very entertaining IMHO. Onosho needs to be careful here and not let these losses extinguish his fighting spirit. He has a lot of potential, but only if he can shrug off the setbacks and keep his eyes on the prize, so to speak. Shohozan v. Takayasu was the most disappointing match for me today. These are both guys known for being scrappy fighters, so I was looking forward to a slobber-knocker. Instead, they take a mutual nap. XP Disappointed also with Kisenosato's loss. I may have spoken too soon about his condition, but I'm going to try not to worry too much, here, as Takakeisho is the kind of fellow who's going to manage a good blitz now and then. We'll see, I guess...
ALAKTORN 346 Posted November 15, 2017 How is Aminishiki able to hatakikomi everyone? lol I don’t see Kisenosato’s loss as too much his fault. Takakeishō fought well. I expect Kise to still get something like 11 wins. Hakuhō looked like he waited and tried thinking of a flashy way to win the bout after the morozashi, but after not coming up with anything he simply drove forward for the yorikiri. lol

I think Kisenosato will struggle to get 8 wins. He seems to be fighting with only one arm. He will probably re-aggravate his injury, if he hasn't already. Shame. Wakaebala 151 Posted November 15, 2017 Very nice win from Ikioi against Endo today, too! This looks like a promising basho - scandal aside. I also hope Onosho can catch a break, I really enjoy his spirit.

He's still blooming, 25 years old, now is the time he will flower and i hope/believe he can make good sumo in sanyaku.

robnplunder 975 Posted November 16, 2017 Even with a win today, Kisenosato does not look good/healthy. His side stance after Tachi-hai can't be good in my opinion. We are going to see Terunofusji at low Maegishira level at the next basho. Wow. Shodai is not looking like a future Ozeki candidate. Is he injured or reached his limit already? I am thinking either Onosho or Takakeisho will get there before Shodai.

Few more years of this and he has been tempered enough to cross the barrier, maybe sooner. But what I want to ask is who is this Aminishiki look-a-like? 5-0 at the top division and he is supposedly 39 years old? I blame Aliens again. Must be the same ones who possessed Kadob...I mean Goeidou to go 15-0, and the same ones who made Yoshikaze absolute monster in late 2015 which made him Sekiwake and a Sanyaku regular ever since. Morty 1,498 Posted November 16, 2017 Does Hak really hate Tochiozan or something? It is always him he seems to make look the most stupid.
dada78641 884 Posted November 16, 2017 Wakaichiro must be starting to dislike the Sadogatake stable. He has only faced wrestlers from there so far. 2-1 now, still hoping for a KK.
