PUREVSREN DERGERBAYAR kept me busy to find his reading - fortunately the Japan wrestling federation has the spell in their database http://db.japan-wrestling.jp/player/プレブスレン・デレゲルバヤル/

Last year as 3rd year high school student at the Kashiwa Nittaidai high he won the wrestling 120kg weight division at the interhigh and at a high school select tournament. http://www.japan-wrestling.jp/2016/03/30/88747/

IMG_5409.jpg

And now we find him as the last in the Nittaidai sumo club, 188cm 135kg  http://www.nittai.ac.jp/club/sumo/buin.html - and in his 1st year already in the inkare qf.

Sanspo reported the same, with interview http://www.sanspo.com/sports/news/20171104/spo17110419430010-n1.html

"I wanted to do sumo" - so he changed from wrestling when he entered university. He has experience in Mongol-zumo and "I want to become sekitori, Hakuho is the one I admire."

He could start at once at SD TD, but I guess he won't quit college

No dan in sumo yet, so no black belt - he had a blue mawashi

That kotenage attempt by Dergerbayar in the quarter-finals looked very painful for Furukawa. Another very good result for Shiroyama, he's going to be a contender for years to come. Great defense in the final from Nakajima, that really was a comeback from the brink.

No surprises in the team competition, as the semi-finals were contested by the 4 best college teams, and it looks like Toyo are still the team to beat, though that was a very good effort from Nihon University. A wild battle in the end to decide the championship, after which Toyo's Shiroyama got told off for his celebrations (though perfectly understandable). Him and Shiroishi will both be key members for Toyo over the next few years.

Aside: Nihon University's Furukawa twins must be used to their opponent using unorthodox tachi-ais against them by now. Remember this bout?

According to the Nittaidai blog Dergerbayar went unbeaten in the team competition, getting each '1' in the 4-1 losses to Toyo and Nihon. Glad to have another promising competitor to keep an eye on!
