Kaminariyuki 476 Posted September 28, 2017 Sadly, I do not read Japanese, so I'm wondering if anyone has heard news of my favorite rikishi? How bad is the injury? Surgery? Expected return basho? Any news would be most welcome. Dom arigato gozaimasu. I need my pink mawashi fix... Ura being something of a fan favorite, I was surprised to see there was not already a thread here.

Either way, he needed a "Featured Rikishi" thread. Get well Ura!
Yatagarasu 352 Posted September 30, 2017 I had assumed that the Yokozuna Bandwagon was his thread! But here is a picture of the sakura wonderboy holding a fluffy dog to help make everyone feel better about the latest injury news. Spoiler

Yatagarasu 352 Posted January 29, 2018 Ura was on his (slightly prosaic) FB page today to post his customary end of basho message and sent congratulations to Toshinoshin and Myogiryu. He made reference to the rikishi now looking towards beginning preparations for March and expressed his intention to return soon. [my Japanese is far from perfect, so please feel free to correct me] I realise this is a 'non-update', but nice to see a sign of life nonetheless. In the comments, the fans - as they have pretty much every time he has posted since his first knee injury last year - overwhelmingly expressed their view that he should take his sweet time and, if anything, draw inspiration from Tochinoshin's bounce back after dropping to Makushita. Let's hope he and his oyakata are of the same view.

This is not from Ura but from his fans, and they look forward to the time of his return in perfect condition at the main basho - so not really a hope for March. Yatagarasu 352 Posted January 21, 2019 Tomorrow Ura will be facing Hoshoryu, Asashoryu's nephew. Hoshoryu has been consistently showing good sumo, though is finding makushita a challenge (a good thing insofar that it will teach him more in the long run than pushover victories - if you haven't been watching him, I suggest you do). Will be an interesting bout.
Yatagarasu 352 Posted January 22, 2019 (edited) Unfortunately it looks like he has reinjured his knee. Badly enough to need a wheelchair. Hopefully this was just an over cautious precaution on his part until he sees a medic. But still, doesn’t bode well for an eventual return to makuuchi: EDIT: Unsurprisingly, Ura now kyujo as of Day 11. Kaminariyuki 476 Posted June 5, 2020 OK, 2020 - two yusho in a row. Can we make it three in July with a sweep of Makushita?
