Kintamayama 33,236 Posted September 10, 2017 (edited) Day 1: Chiyotairyuu, beating veteran Sekiwake Yoshikaze swiftly and powerfully: "First of all, it's good to win on day 1. Today is my fourth wedding anniversary. I'm happy that I managed to win somehow. There were even three kensho envelopes. Of course, the money is for the kids .." Kintamayama 33,236 Posted September 11, 2017 Day 2: Takakeishou, beating Ura by tsukiotoshi after which Ura couldn't walk on his own.: "When I'm out there I am totally absorbed in what I'm doing so I don't know. No use in commenting!"
Kintamayama 33,236 Posted September 12, 2017 Day 3: Chiyotairyuu, 3 straight wins: "It's all frantic, doing this 'one day, one bout' thing.. It's really good that we don't do 'one day, two bouts' or 'one day, three bouts', right?" I love this guy. 5

Kaninoyama 614 Posted September 13, 2017 My favorite Day 3 quote, courtesy of guest commentator Takanohana prior to deshi Takanoiwa's bout during NHK's broadcast: Announcer: "Takanoiwa had been suffering from pneumonia leading up to this basho and was unable to train until just two days prior." Takanohana: "He shouldn't have gotten pneumonia!" 4
Kintamayama 33,236 Posted September 13, 2017 (edited) Ounoshou, first ever Ozeki challenge, beating Terunofuji after a ferocious stare down, remaining unbeaten: "I did not tremble. I just wondered what he was thinking- will he henka or not? I was watching him closely.. It turned out well, didn't it? I was able to go out there with the feeling that what will be, will be. I am humbly delighted. Still, the basho isn't over yet. It was just one of fifteen days.." Say what you will, the kid has balls.. I'm all-in for Harumafuji tomorrow, though. His balls where hairy long before Onosho grew some.

His balls where hairy long before Onosho grew some. All I can say is that the pressure on the only Yokozuna left standing, who also happens to be the most prone to injury, is immense. A loss tomorrow brings him one step closer to his own kyujo. Ounoshou, OTOH, is cruising. A win-sensational. A loss, no biggie. I am going with Ounoshou on this. All he needs to do is survive the first 5 seconds. Harumafuji in his current state can't go on much longer than that.

He isn't doing that overly annoying "Hisshi ni just desperate, don't remember anything, kachi koshi ichiban ichiban ichiban" mantra but is actually saying stuff like this. I am still waiting for some up and coming rikishi say before first yokozuna bout that he will go all out and leave every drop of strength on the dohyo in order to BEAT the yokozuna. You've got to squeeze the spleen out of yokozuna, push his head off, shatter his ribcage ie go all out. Now that is respecting yokozuna rank.
