At 35, Sotairyu is probably in the market for an available chanko restaurant.

Day 12

J14w KIZENRYU (6-5) is withdrawing on day 12.

Kise have confirmed on their FB page that it's a left ACL injury.  They've lost a lot of men to this basho and that two ACL injuries in their camp for sekitori too... :'-(

Paired against Hattorizakura. What are the odds for the 2nd career win?

Close to zero. He returned for a cheap victory!

Not sure if he woulkd have known against whom he'd be fighting.
The torikumi is made out after the decision to return, surely. How could it be different?

5 rikishi newly joining the basho for Day 13 seems to be a new record; I can't find any prior basho with more than 4.

They all returned so they would have an appearance. If they had been absent the entire basho, they would all have fallen off the banzuke. Then they would have had to go through mae-zumo.

Miyabiyama had nothing ozeki worthy in his career

You obviously missed the magazine that labeled him the "Raiden of the Heisei Era" not long after his pro debut
