Hakuhou finally did some morning training today. He faced Shoudai for eight bouts, winning them all. "As you could see, I was moving well. I just wanted to check out my sumo sense. I'm not perfect yet, but my body is in good shape" he said.

Yokozuna Kakuryuu has started real training today. Guess who against,

Spoiler

Shoudai

10 bouts, won them all. He was seen using powerful yoris. "I feel my body is slowly getting back into shape. I've got no choice but to do my best to forge my body,. I have a lot of injuries but I cannot submit to them and will do my best to overcome them" he said.

No health certificate from Takanoiwa yet.

I don't think that sign says 白鵬 (Hakuho, the White Peng) - I think it says 朋烏, the white bird companion.  Not sure who that is, but clearly the size of the writing indicates it is supposed to be two different characters.  Ok, maybe because of the HUGE space between the two characters we're supposed to assume that the right half is only one character.

(No, I'm not serious, but it certainly looks that way.  The "unravel" kanji also looks like two separate characters, with each half being as big as the "employment" kanji - and there's no extra space there.  Such is writing when not constrained to perfectly ordered blocks.)

Jokes or not, but this is the reason why I will never ever be able to learn Japanese, especially in reading/writing. Like, if you view the kanji at a certain angle during half moon, then it probably is something else, but that something else has an obscure side-reading which is homophone to that of yet another kanji, the third most frequent reading of which points to something and so on.

Unfathomable to my barbarian devil's eyes.

When words made up of kanji are written one below the other, like a column in a table, the custom is to have equal spacing between the kanji and have them as far spread out horizontally as possible, as long as it doesn't hinder the reader's ability to read comfortably.

You can't expect all Japanese to have a good handwriting - and that is one part I skipped completely from learning Japanese: no learning by writing - all Japanese and japanologists have to do  it though - only on PC (since even  my handwriting in German becomes unreadable to me after 30min).

I think it's quite nice to be able to write kanji. I have to admit, I never did it until I started studying Japanese in Tokyo, but now it's become part of my daily routine. I even incorporate kanji that usually get written in kana, like 鬱陶しい. It's obviously more important to be able to read them than to write them, but it helped facilitate my ability to recognize them too.
