He posted a two-basho result that could well promote an ozeki to yokozuna - it would have been pretty ridiculous if it's not enough to promote a sekiwake to ozeki.

Katooshu 3,182 Posted May 16, 2017 (edited) I'm surprised there's been no talk of this; you better bow to Asahisho before the match! Edited May 16, 2017 by Katooshu

Yes, when they enter the ring they pause briefly, look at each other and give a quick bow. The same as when the match is over. Takagenji should have waited for the bow but he just kept going. Extremely rude. Ashahisho isn't going to bow to an empty space at that point so he didn't bow either. But that lack of respect was surely the cause of the smack. These 2 must have a history with each other. Ashahisho is his senior by 7 years and he's been sekitori for 6. This is Takagenji's 1st basho in Juryo. Very weird behavior for someone who is normally a very good guy. I really wonder what brought this on. Edited May 16, 2017 by Rocks
Tiger Tanaka 222 Posted May 16, 2017 Day 2 Notes Chiyonokuni was so pumped up before his match and got his first gold star. Great feeling for him. Much more disciplined sumo from Hakuho who handled the valiant fight from Yoshikaze. A win is a win for Kise, but he looked very weak against one of the easiest opponents he will face What a devastating tachiai from Takayasu. 8 to go! Terror just doesn't have the lower body strength that he showed for 13 days last basho. Would not be surprised to see a kyujo if he continues to struggle like that. Do we need any more drama between him and Kise? Landed right on the injured side of Kisenosato! Mitakeumi strong again, though it was a little concerning to see him not use his left hand and more his forearm instead with his thrusting. Ura continues to be one of the unique spectating experiences in sumo, great comeback win when he looked to be in trouble. Lower Divisions: Thanks for posting that @Katooshu. I didn't realize when I saw it earlier today that Takagenji never bowed upon entering. Noticed there seemed to be more stalling and re-positioning before the bout than normal, so there was definitely some odd tension in this one, wonder what was up. Day 3 Looking Forward... Chiyonokuni looks hungry and now he's got Kise on Day 3. This will be a tough one for the Yokozuna. Poor Geek has Takayasu next, Intai seems in the very near future:( Terunofuji and Kakuryu both seem like kyujo candidates along with Kise this basho, they need to win their bouts against the Maegashira on Day

word20 21 Posted May 16, 2017 Chiyonokuni has fought very well these days. Kisenosato was winning, but Chiyonokuni were dominating the match from the beginning. He possibly can be the next ozeki after Takayasu Kotoshogiko is not himself these first days...
Morty 1,486 Posted May 16, 2017 I love watching Ichinojo go against Tochinoshin. You know exactly what you are going to get. Two big strong guys on the belt trying to lift the other one out. Nothing subtle, nothing fancy, just brute vs. brute. Brilliant stuff, even if Tochinoshin is too injured to have made a real contest of it. And I'm not sure how Kisenosato pulled that one out but that is the third day in a row his opponent has gone to his left side at the tachiai and he has won two of them so far. Proving himself Yokozuna material in the best way possible.
Morty 1,486 Posted May 16, 2017 And Endo needs to learn what to do when his opponent grabs him by the throat. Half the bouts he loses are because of exactly that.
Dwale 419 Posted May 16, 2017 The Chiyonokuni v Kisenosato match just about gave me a heart attack. Hell of a bout, but damn, son. Tamawashi meant to end his losing streak against Mitakeumi and I think a lesser rikishi would have succumbed to his assault. But, future ozeki Mitakeumi weathered it like a champ. Takayasu still on track against a fading Kotoshogiku, who must be utterly demoralized at this point. I feel bad for Kotoshogiku fans. But you never know, maybe he'll bounce back and start getting wins. We shall see. I would like to see a rivalry between Ura and Ishiura, but as yet Ishiura is simply out of his league when they face off. A pity. You know, I think Kotoyuki might just need to cool his heels in juryo for a bit, reevaluate his approach, then come back and try again. And Ichinojo wins the battle of the tree-trunk thighs against Tochinoshin. That's...a lot of thigh on the dohyo, there.
ALAKTORN 346 Posted May 16, 2017 (edited) Wow, that Hakuhō documentary opened my eyes… a commenter puts it best: “元気そうには見えるけど実は全身ボロボロなんだよな、横綱に限らず関取たちはほとんどそう” “He looks fine but in reality his body is all beat up, and not just the yokozuna but most sekitori are like that.”. And that was stuff from late 2015 to early 2016… wonder how he is now, probably no better. There are a few places in the vid where he actually explains his losses as due to the injuries he had. WAKATAKE 2,650 Posted May 16, 2017 I have never seen Geek get pushed back like that at the tachi-ai. Clearly Takayasu is all focus so far for that ozeki run. Even with one good arm, Kise is finding ways to win. That first day loss I think was a wake up call more than anything and he's been making the necessary adjustments so far. Ura vs Ishiura, Ura still proving his agility. Fun to see two big guys when it's Ichinojo and Tochinoshin.
Philioyamfugi 378 Posted May 16, 2017 Good to see Kakaru win and all 4 Yokazuna in the mix. Takayasu is on a mission, I don't see him failing and will be in contention for this yusho. Ura eating it up with some serious kensho too. Gagamaru and ossumirashi both 2-1. It's getting warm.

Yubinhaad 11,615 Posted May 16, 2017 My favourite bout of the day was between two former Juryo, Keitenkai-Higonojo. Also good was this lengthy yotsu battle between Ohata and Oazuma. Looks like the shimpan were just starting to discuss calling a halt when the rikishi saved them the trouble.
