It was glorious! If you are going to do a henka do one like that. Laughed my head off

I was going to post the same thing. I literally laughed out loud.

Well, the fat lady has sung as far as the yusho goes. Hakuho just can't resist being a d*** and gives a blatant late shove. -.- It's things like this that make it impossible for me to like him, however prodigious his talents.

Well it didn't look malicious to me. Can we not put it down to expressing his relief, at least on this occasion.

Yeah, there was nothing malicious in that. That was just the end of a close struggle between two alpha males, where the winner was emphasising the point. I hate that shit, but that's all it was, nothing more

I agree. But as soon as it happened I began wondering how much wailing and gnashing of teeth there would be in here.

Look busy - the boss is back! What a way to celebrate 10 years as the greatest ever yokozuna. I hope he can make it a zensho tomorrow.

I've got mixed feelings about the dame-oshi coming back, but it appears that's just how Hakuho reacts when he's on top of his game (it didn't look at all malicious to me). It's really unfortunate if that is the case, because it will always detract from his reputation.

Clearly, if he is fit enough to bring his massive wealth of experience and technique into play, Hakuho remains almost invincible.

---

Ura has repeatedly shown he can beat many experienced sekitori, yet a guy who was probably a teenager when they first met always beats him! Takakeisho should also make his joi debut in July and I suspect he'll have somewhat less of a hard time there than Ura.

---

I'm really looking forward to senshuraku, because even though the yusho is decided, it looks like there are some significant bouts tomorrow: Harumafuji could spoil Hakuho's zensho party and claim joint jun-yusho; jun-yusho is also riding on Terunofuji vs Takayasu, and the ozeki-to-be could get his last ever shukun-sho; I've a feeling Ura will need an 11th win to be up for the gino-sho; and Hokutofuji vs Yoshikaze looks like it could be a kanto-sho decider, if the former wins.

How about Goeido beating Harumafuji? If he wins against Tamawashi tomorrow he might even get double-digit wins, after struggling almost the entire basho to keep his Ozeki rank safe.

Lots of great matches tomorrow. Kaise looking for his KK against my man Kagayaki. Ishura same against Takekaze. Kotoshugiku to maybe save off retirement 1 more basho against Ikioi. Terninofuji Takyasu...Hakuho and Harimafuji... Hokutofuji Yoshikaze should be fun.

Hakuho's poor-sportsmanship tarnishes his reputation.

The man simply cannot control his emotions.

It would be a lot easier to let it go if it wasn't something he has done over and over again. You can chalk it up to whatever you please.

For those who are curious about wakaichiro (young guy from Texas), he went 4-3 in Jonidan. 3-3 going into his last match on day 13 which he won. You can easily find his matches on youtube, though day 13 isn't up yet. He seems to have trouble attempting a throw, he lost two matches by trying, failing, and falling on a throw.

I would normally agree with this but not so much in this situation. While I applaud Terunofuji's valiant effort to give his heya mate an outside shot at winning the Yusho it was clear he is not in good enough shape to have beaten Hakuho in that match. I can see where Hakuho got a little frustrated and gave what was really a small shove for making him work so hard.  While I believe Hakuho will zensho easily and he has been dominant this basho his dominance was over what amounts to an episode of the walking dead. Too many of these guys are in really bad shape. Not just injured as they always are but blatantly showing those injuries which means they are bad. Hakuho wanted to finish this off easily and show his dominance. Having a hard time beating an obviously injured Terunofuji doesn't show that. Which is where the frustration of that moment came from. IMHO.

Should Aminishiki win tomorrow he will become the oldest Juryo yusho winner in the modern era.

Not quite. Post-WWII / 15-day basho / 6 basho per year eras yes, but not modern era.

That's all good learning experience for this promising young guy.

Well ok. But it does sound like you rather agree with the comment that it was poor sportsmanship and a lack of emotional control.

I hate that  extra-shoves but in this specific bout it seemed like something between old buds, something like "this one I won and we'll crack one with the boys later".

The Kyokai and pretty much everybody else of relevance uses "modern era" to mean all tournaments since the Tokyo-Osaka merger created a unified sumo competition. (Inasmuch as the Kyokai is inclined to make communication in English to begin with, anyway.)

If Aminishiki doesn't become the oldest Juryo-Yusho winner ever, at least he can become the oldest first-time winner of any division, can't he ?

Speaking of records, Kizenryu is set to get his 7th promotion to Juryo; IIRC Sumanofuji is the sole leader with 8.

I wouldn't be so sure about Kizenryu getting promoted.  There are 2 rikishi definitely ahead of him, and there's not going to be an obvious 3rd demotion, nor is it guaranteed that there will be someone even to be slightly overdemoted.

Notwithstanding that it wasn't a malicious extra shove this time, I can't say I'm a fan of seeing a guy with bad legs pushed off the dohyo in some sort of "aw, shucks" deal, either.

What you said contradicts the fact: he is the greatest yokokozuna in history.

It took 44 years exactly for Taiho's record to be broken. It's going to be a long time my friend.

He will end his career with 40+ yusho: a record as unbreakable as the 69 winning streak.
