Senkoho 552 Posted May 26, 2017 Could someone remind me when the lower division kettei-sen are held on senshuraku? Is is between Juryo and Makuuchi?

Jakusotsu 5,892 Posted May 26, 2017 Looks like Takayasu's Mom is in the house. I wonder if she likes rhubarb...
Tiger Tanaka 222 Posted May 26, 2017 Goeido retains Ozeki status! After a very hard fought battle with Takarafuji who put up a great effort despite his struggles this basho.
Tiger Tanaka 222 Posted May 26, 2017 What an incredible match between Takayasu and Harumafuji. Tak decided he will be ending his Ozeki run in style with authority. Any doubt now is surely erased. Welcome to the Ozeki ranks Takayasu!

autotroph 43 Posted May 26, 2017 Bit of a messy bout from both rikishi there, but I'm happy for Takayasu nonetheless!

autotroph 43 Posted May 26, 2017 Extreme weirdness at the tachiai during Tamawashi - Hakuho... Was Hakuho trying to school Tamawashi for pulling up during the first one?
d_golem 213 Posted May 26, 2017 Did I detect extreme anxiousness on Hak's face during the stare-off? Plus the palm-to-the-face tachiai and henka, he clearly thought Tamawashi is very capable of beating him. Tamawashi's face was very fierce during the bout. Dwale 419 Posted May 26, 2017 Duuuuuuude! That staredown between Tamawashi and Hakuho gave me chills it was so tense. Wow. As for the match, it felt to me like Tamawashi was unsure of what to do once he was on the belt. Hakuho, of course, knew exactly what to do. And woohoo, huge congratulations to Takayasu. That was shaky for a second, there, but he made it happen. Good bout, too, though a short one. It sure as heck had me on the edge of my seat. Terunofuji is indeed hurt again, poor guy. Speaking of injured, I feel like Arawashi deserves some love for the effort he's been putting in to hang on in makuuchi. Dude really doesn't seem to like the idea of going to juryo. XP Ishiura in a tough spot now with that loss. I see they're giving him Takarafuji tomorrow. Well, Takarafuji's been having such a bad time he might well be able to pull off a win there. And Ura gets punished for a henka. Really, two days in a row, mate? Tsk. Several matches tomorrow I'm already chomping at the bit to watch. Can't wait. d_golem 213 Posted May 26, 2017 That was a UNH, Ura Non-Henka. Notice the attempt for that arm throw? Too bad it was slightly mistimed.

WAKATAKE 2,648 Posted May 26, 2017 Seven people at 8-5 for the Juryo race. Four of them will be going head on to put pressure on any six loss rikishi, could we be seeing March 2001 again? On top of that, one of those at 8-5 is the veteran Aminishiki, who had started out 2-4 but continues to hold his own against those in the second division. And by winning today he has entered the top 10 for all time career wins at 822, tying himself with Akinoshima. One more win this basho puts him solely in 10th place. With the lack of suitable candidates from Juryo to Makuuchi, Kotoyuki may have indeed saved himself dropping to Juryo. Bad mistake for Ura today. Both komusubi won today and now will be fighting for the available sekiwake spot next basho. Goeido saves his ozeki rank once again, and didn't wait until day 15 this time. Terunofuji stays in the race today, and has the biggest chance tomorrow to shake things up for everybody as he faces Hakuho. Hakuho keeps his zensho and can put everything away tomorrow if he wins. I saved my commentary about the Takayasu vs Harumafuji match for last. I have to say, Takayasu really gave everything he possibly could, and has become a crowd hero in his own right just as Kisenosato has. The Tagonoura duo is really hitting paydirt now. Anyways, when I saw the match, I almost shed tears. So happy for Takayasu on getting this far, now the real battle begins, congrats!
Philioyamfugi 378 Posted May 26, 2017 Aminishiki has 8 kimboshi. No wonder he sticks around..but I always rout for the older guys anyway.

Tsubame 359 Posted May 26, 2017 Maybe today Ura learnt that a non-henka plus "diving" (or however do you call his style) is a terrible combination that is almost guaranteed loss. 17 hours ago, Amamaniac said: Sorry. I should have said "entire Yokozuna career". 3 of the 5 fusen came before his ascension to Grand Champion. I was replying to RabidJohn's comment about Yokozuna's getting fusensho...
