Makuuchi Consecutive Match Tracker

Recommended Posts

This thread will track all 42 wrestlers that are ranked in the top division per basho, including those who are certain to fall to juryo in the next basho. This thread also let's you know if somebody is close to getting into the top 10 for the top division (we won't be seeing that for a while though).

Order is by longest streaks.

Edit 3/31/18: Bolded rikishi have perfect attendance in makuuchi which are uninterrupted by kyujo and/or demotion to juryo.

You can say that again - Kitanoumi at #10 has 863 consecutive bouts - Ikioi's not even halfway there. And the all-time leader, Takamiyama, has 1231 (!!). I personally don't think that record will ever be broken.

Since presumably this thread will be used for future updates (?), the "Haru 2017" probably makes more sense in the first post rather than in the subject line, no?

Why is Kisenosato only at 285 - he hasn't been absent ever and I am sure he's been in consecutively in Makuuchi for more than 16 basho

Wakatake;  I like this thread. Can you do a consecutive Sekitori and consecutive career match tracker?

He missed one bout in January of 2014. Just the last day of the basho.

Without that single abscent day Kisenosato would have broken the all time record just now in Haru 2017 with 1239 bouts.

Nope. You're looking at his total career bouts. If he had not missed that day he would be third on 1109 makuuchi bouts.

Kisenosato, without his one fusen loss, would have 1110 consecutive Makuuchi and 1239 consecutive career matches.

A fusen loss will end a consecutive appearance streak. The database lists wins/ losses/ appearances. It does count a fusen loss as a loss  but not as an appearance. Confused? Tune in to next weeks episode of "Soap".

Right. 1109 with the fusen loss (which is what I glanced at on Sumo Reference), 1110 if he'd turned up for that bout. The point is he would still be over 100 matches short of Jesse's record.

You mean all active rikishi? Sekitori is doable but having to track all lower level rikishi is an entirely different beast all in itself.

Tracker stacker:

Takarafuji the second active rikishi with 500+ consecutive bouts in makuuchi.

Ikioi still the top dog for active rikishi at 525. 10th place is Kitanoumi with 863, meaning Ikioi needs 338 more consecutive matches to enter the top 10.

Target dates for active rikishi with 500+ bouts (cannot go kyujo and also cannot fall into juryo):

Ikioi - Day 8 of Natsu 2022.

Takarafuji - Day 8 of Nagoya 2022
