The article in the link above is from 2016 but it does have the tel # for the shop. They don't ship online as far as I know (and the Japanese postal service has a lot of restrictions as to what can be shipped internationally -- at least to the US). However, if you get to Tokyo, definitely check out this shop. I went crazy when I went there in Sept 2014. **** EDIT **** Many items, like certain t-shirts, are only available at the Kokugikan. As I mentioned above, the Japanese postal service has a lot of restrictions as to what they will ship internationally -- at least to the US. If you're able to read this link, and if it indicates they will ship to addresses in Japan, I have a friend in Japan who will take orders and ship them internationally. A lot of "ifs" and "buts". At one point, the Kokugikan shop wasn't shipping at all. Then there's the question of what the Japanese postal service will allow. Recently, my friend sent me a bunch of sumo programs he had been saving up for me. At that time, he could ship "flat" packages that didn't weigh very much to the US, but couldn't ship boxes. I don't know if that has changed. The shipping rules seem to always be changing, just like the travel restrictions. **** EDIT **** My friend is attending the Basho TODAY (Day 7). If there's anything you want him to buy for you, let me know immediately!! I'm not sure I can get in touch with him since he's taking the train to Tokyo, but I can try. I wouldn't be surprised if they just simply didn't envisage that there would be international demand for sumo goods, and hence never bothered to include international shipping options; hopefully this is something they get round to revising, now that they are at least officially aware of the foreign sumo market if Sumo Prime Time is anything to go by. I've always had to order goods through my friend in Japan, and it seems like at some point, they weren't even shipping domestically. There may be a problem with what the Japanese postal service will allow him to ship, so if you want anything, please tell me what country you're in and hopefully he can let me know if he can ship it to you. He charges a 20% commission on the total purchase price, including the shipping cost. Recently, the Japanese postal service required that packages to the US had to be "flat" (no boxes), couldn't weigh very much and had to be shipped EMS (Express), which is expensive. He was able to ship cheaper by using Japan's "takkubin" shipping service. Shipping to other countries might have different rules. ****EDIT TO ADD ----- My friend has responded and will accept orders if they aren't too expensive. He didn't give me a cut-off time to place orders, but since Makuuchi starts at 4:00 PM Japan Time, I think probably 3:00 PM Japan Time would be okay. FYI -- My friend is honest and reliable, I've known him for years, so you can order with confidence. He will send you a Paypal invoice. Seiyashi 3,384 Posted September 20, 2022 (edited) Some oyakata merch: the NSK is selling ema - blocks of cypress traditionally used to write prayers/wishes and hung in shrine precincts. These are printed with the faces of the 104 oyakata of the NSK, including their kabu and their active shikona. And yes, this includes Kaisei, although his just seems to have been a head shot of his formal rikishi photo. In typical Japanese fashion, this is a gacha, so the various oyakata appear to be assigned into rarity tiers based on their highest rank while active. All former yokozuna are in the highest rarity tier, for instance, and all former ōzeki one tier below. (It just so happens that this is also a great pictorial look to roughly see how many ex-oyakata ranked sekiwake, ōzeki, or yokozuna; the komusubi are lumped in with the maegashira and the rare ex-jūryōs.) The joke comes with the "bad luck" and "super bad luck" tiers, which are occupied by the oyakata channel hosts Otowayama, Iwatomo, Shiranui, and Onogawa (super bad luck): instead of a nice formal photo, these four are pulling funny faces on their ema. These were up for grabs during the basho, and apparently were popular enough that they sold out once and the NSK had to announce it being restocked over Twitter.
