Masatoshi yesterday finished 5th in his preliminary race with 4m9.81s and didn't make it to the final.

He put on a mawashi and trained during primary school, but then found his taste for running.

I'm always wondering what sumo connection may be behind some completely unrelated pics in my daily list when they appear on a great scale - this time fashion

Arashi Shoma (17, 190cm, 79kg), grandson of Mienoumi, was joint 2nd in the 2024 model audition for https://www.mensnonno.jp/information/503096/

- another one lost for ozumo - he'd make it to sekiwake for sure, had he continued with sumo

If the modeling job doesn't work out then he's still young enough to try sumo. Especially seeing as the age limit has been raised to 25. :-D

Favourite item: geta - Mienoumi gave him his, which he had used while being active (up to jd rikishi only can use simple geta) - he mostly appears with these geta (makes him even taller)

Fuji TV's Mezamashi8 had a feature on him, with a pic in kesho mawashi with tachi, about age 5, I guess.

Mienoumi as advice for the audition told him: Even I you don't have talent, you can make it with kiai and will-power https://mezamashi.media/article/15477483

Another one with sumo experience as a smaller kid, but now in another sport: the 2nd son of Dewanoumi-oyakata, like his older brother and sister is into volleyball. He reached the best 8 with his team at the national high school tournament last year, now as 2nd year he aims for the best 4. The oyakata sends him a "gambare yo" message nearly every day via LINE. In 6th year he was runner-up at the wampaku-zumo Sumida ward preliminary tournament and now on days off still never fails to do the training he learned in sumo.

Daily Shincho posted on him on shonichi http://www.dailyshincho.jp/article/2025/01121041/?all=1

In primary school he was at wampaku tournaments each year and prepared for that at Musashigawa-beya. Mienoumi as oyakata was one to fling a bamboo sword during the spartan keiko at the heya, Musashimaru called him scary but Shoma thinks of him as a gentle person. Till middle school a Dragonball fan he would liked to have become a Saiya-jin - a fighter. Till then he thought to go into ozumo, but his Russian mother was against any type of fighting sport and Mienoumi also told him that with his long legs, he wasn't suited for sumo.

with granddad - in bronze (actually not Mienoumi: unryu style *) and in person

1236642_5.jpg

1236642_6.jpg

He used to meet him once or twice a month and also did a part time job at the chanko restaurant run by Mienoumi.

Before a trip to Hawaii in 2nd year high school he wanted to be called a samurai there and borrowed the geta from Mienoumi - and really was called samurai there. Since then these geta are his favourite item
