It was so fast, clash, spins, and then somehow hakuho is out of the dohyo edit: clearly, Harumafuji withdrew because he feared the power of Arawashi, the yokozuna slayer Harumafuji beat Arawashi on Day 4? robnplunder 972 Posted January 15, 2017 (edited) Arawashi, the Kensho gatherer, giant slayer, yoko killer, Kise's little helper, .... that was a shocking win against the legend in making. Ura could have been easily 3 and 5 by now. He had a few monoii which wasn't called. Every win seems to be very close. But his luck ran out today as a nonoii was rightfully called. Slow-mo seemed Ura lost. In the end, the rematch was won by Tsurugisho. Did I hear 7 rikishis with 6-2 record in Juryo? It's a bit crowded for the yusho race. Benihana 1,794 Posted January 15, 2017 (edited) Wow, Kisenosato sole leader on day 8...could this be...? But there is bad news, too. Look what they have done with Wakaichiro's hair He is now 2-2, but definitely worth watching. Edited January 15, 2017 by Benihana

TENHO 59 Posted January 15, 2017 Hello. I'm new in this forum and from Mongolia. I got this rare photo of Hakuho and Arawashi. I read they are childhood friends. So we got 7 more days. Kise has really good chance for yusho.
Kotogouryuu 116 Posted January 15, 2017 Kotoshogiku is really avoiding his left leg, which pretty much makes him weaponless as he can't push forward with power. Sad to see it, but this may indeed be it for him.
Morty 1,431 Posted January 15, 2017 3 hours ago, Rocks said: That was close for Kise. I'm not surprised though. His toughest matches each basho are the ones everyone expects him to win. He almost lost to a guy with a smoldering hole in his ass. But that's Okinoumi for ya. Guy is tough as nails. Okinoumi is looking at MK and dropping out of the joi-jin for next basho and he belongs in joi-jin. Which means he's top of the list of my picks in March for the games. Heal up Oki! I actually thought Kise handled that pretty well. He accidentally gave up the double underhooks then went "shit" and did something about it which was to backpedal sideways until he could dump Okinoumi on the ground. I reckon he was pretty in control of that except for the double underhooks bit

WAKATAKE 2,411 Posted January 15, 2017 Arawashi's win tonight earned not only a kinboshi but 46 kensho worth 1380000 yen (approx. $12,000) http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1765719.html

RabidJohn 1,367 Posted January 15, 2017 I was beginning to find Takekaze a bit monotonous with his side step and slap down routine, then he went and did that ipponzeoi today. Wow, what a move! Bit of a shame he had to share the limelight with Arawashi's almost equally remarkable kinboshi. Two days running, I've expected Terunofuji to lose, and he hasn't. So unpredictable... Maybe it's my shoddy memory, but I'm not accustomed to seeing Kise win when someone has him at a disadvantage like that. He's got some stiff opposition to come, but he's sole leader after day 8, he's clearly the healthiest of the top 8, and he's looking calm and confident... Yeah, I'm rooting for him now! I had the very same thought when watching today's bouts. I noticed that there were many new rikishi doing well who I don't really know. I started watchin in 2013 and today it felt different. Not a bad thing by any means.
Dwale 419 Posted January 15, 2017 Well! Well, well, well. Favorite win of the day was Takekaze, looking cool as hell with that. There were a number of good finishes today, though. Now it's gotten interesting. I'm worried about jinxing Kise so I'm just not gonna say anything. lol Mitakeumi still going strong. Yeah! I like both rikishi there so I was going to be happy either way. Terunofuji having a bit of a late rally, again. I don't know how he does it.
Tsuchinoninjin 1,110 Posted January 15, 2017 Definitely feels like Kisenosato's basho this time. He nearly got himself done in by pulling but I think Hakuho is going to lose a few more.

Yubinhaad 10,935 Posted January 15, 2017 With Mitakeumi and Arawashi joining the club this basho, there are currently 30 active rikishi who have won a kinboshi, with a combined 66 kinboshi between them. The last time there were 30 active winners was way back in the 1991 Aki basho! That group, which included double-digit collectors Ozutsu and Akinoshima, had a combined 85 kinboshi.
