Of course he may have put a bit back on since then. http://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20160930/p2a/00m/0sp/011000c
Rocks 1,807 Posted November 15, 2016 Well, much better sumo today that's for sure. It was Throwlapalooza. Endo made Kise look bad but Kise always looks bad when he loses. Takayasu was terrific, he looked like he was going out.

inhashi 2,363 Posted November 15, 2016 Meisei looked very happy with his first win. Got an appreciative handshake from a fan, smile and nod from Oshima and fellow shin Juryo Daishoho too. The following match between Satoyama vs Oyanagi was well worth watching too. Must have been a very unexpected experience for Oyanagi on the dohyo.https://youtu.be/JlKXwXHLT84?t=468
Benihana 1,913 Posted November 15, 2016 If Amuru isn't already planning his future, he should start doing it NOW. It needs a miracle for him to achieve KK, his knees are done. I really would love to see him back in makuuchi, but i think all hope is lost. On the other hand Aminishiki ist looking fine, although he lost today. Osu looking fine as well, one of two still unbeaten in juryo, very nice. If his body would allow Tochinoshin to fighty everyday like today...possibly Ozeki. Kisenosato, why hast thou forsaken us? Kotoshogiku was really pissed after his loss. Okinoumi threw it away as well, Terunofuji not looking good, despite winning. Takekaze and Sokokurai 3-0 on day 3? The last time this happened was 2013.05, 2014.11 respectively! Big surprise. And why the heck is Goeido still at 3-0? Mita, boma ye! Mita, boma ye! You can do it! And congratulations to Hakuho, strictly awesome. But Kaisei didn't just hand him the win, kudos for that.
Dwale 419 Posted November 15, 2016 (edited) Yeah, it looks like Tamawashi is wrestling hot. Credit where it's due. Maybe for Endo too. Kisenosato, man... he's one of the harder guys to read, but I suspect he's thoroughly demoralized. Goeido. Whether he makes yokozuna or not, he does seem to have leveled up. Takayasu as well. Keeping a close eye on Ishiura... I've taken a liking to Chiyoshouma. He only went 8/7 last time, but he's got good form. Favorite win of the day: Kitataiki, managing two victories in only one match. Yubinhaad 11,594 Posted November 15, 2016 In the Jonidan bout between Yoshimura and Tosahikari today, Yoshimura resisted at the edge with one foot on the tawara, and as he collapsed backwards Tosahikari put his hand down. Gyoji Shikimori Seiichiro gave the win to Yoshimura, but a mono-ii found that Yoshimura was in an unrecoverable position, Azumazeki-oyakata announced it as kabaite and reversed the decision in favour of Tosahikari.
Bumpkin 438 Posted November 15, 2016 This might be the wrong thread but... Hakuho now has 1,000 wins. The soonest he can break Kaio"s record of 1,047 is Day 6 of May 2017. He would, of course, have to win 48 consecutive matches.
Benevolance 2,483 Posted November 15, 2016 I suppose there is a slim chance that Hakuho might have to wait until Nagoya to break the record, but I find it very unlikely.

All the more reason to head to Tokyo in May? As you can see from my avatar I supported the other yokozuna when they were both on the dohyo but it would still be interesting to be there when the record was broken. If not Tokyo in May, I love Nagoya.
robnplunder 975 Posted November 15, 2016 (edited) I picked Endo to win the most in this basho among Mitakeumi, Shodai, and the aforementioned. After day 3, Shodai looked the best. Mitakeumi also looks to be in good form despite his 1-2 record. He could have been easily 2-1. Endo looked good against Kise (or Kise looked bad against Endo) but his 1st two matches were not impressive. We will see what happens the rest of the way. I don't see Takayasu winning 12 in this basho. 10 wins are more likely, IMO. You know who looked good so far? The forgotten Yokozuna, Kakuryu. SumpaX 23 Posted November 15, 2016 (edited) Its weird nobody is talking about Goeido, but he looks like he didnt loose any steam from the last basho he looks just as powerfull... i am not surprised if he wins this. Edited November 15, 2016 by SumpaX

We have been talking about Goeido, here and there. Check out another thread on topic fo Goeido & Takayasu promotion, too. I mentioned earlier that even if Yoshikaze has winning career record against Goeido, Go will beat him easily per his current form. On cue, he dispatched Yoshikaze easily yesterday. Go is still in the last basho form but it does not guarantee another Yusho, what with Hakuho back & Kakuryu looking strong. Go has a good chance though. ScottyJoyJrBebe 97 Posted November 15, 2016 Goeido is bringing back the stare-down, I find that AWESOME. I remember my 1st round of watching sumo, and seeing classic stare-downs from Akinoshima, Takatoriki, and (in my mind) the master, Takanonami. i can remember a few times when Takanonami would eye-up Musashimaru, and it would look like fists were gonna fly. Goeido looks DEADLY serious with it, and I believe its a weapon in his arsenal.

Oh, how I miss that. I hope Hakuho and Goeido are both undefeated when they face each other. If Goeido wants a 2nd yusho and the rope that comes with it, he has to go through King Hakuho to get it. I can't wait.

You could see him actually beating his opponent with his death stare at times, and if it wasn't having the desired effect he could somehow increase its intensity. Fabulous to watch, but I was always thankful I wasn't on the receiving end! Have to agree with you about Goeido using it to great effect, and I've always believed it's a psychological weapon.
Morningstar 118 Posted November 15, 2016 Goeido has defiantly improved his stare down. I particularly likes his Day 13 Vs Harumafuji last Basho.

My first ever sumo match I watched was May in 1991, when Chiyonofuji took on Takahanada. I saw the GREAT Chiyonofuji only 3 times before he called it quits :( However, I have had the privilege to see all of his career on many different videos on you tube, and NO JOKE, he could demoralize an opponent with that stare alone. Watched one recap of him vs Hokutenyu, and when Hokutenyu tried to match the stare, it seemed like "The Wolf" transformed in front of him, and Hokutenyu went from "Yeah, you don't scare me" to "Oh S***, I made him mad...." perhaps Goeido is channeling him from beyond........... Dwale 419 Posted November 15, 2016 The stare-down is important. If you can intimidate your opponent, your chances of winning improve drastically. Psychology is important in any athletic endeavor, combat sports in particular. Get in their head, make them doubt. Make them them think you're going to hurt them. If they let you, their every instinct is to move away from you, not towards.
