Well you can excuse Tochiozan and Aoiyama because of the quality of their opposition. I guess Tochinoshin's start is slightly disappointing. But early days. kuroimori 1,634 Posted November 14, 2016 Down in mid-Juryo Aminishiki, the wiliest of all veterans, is starting a nice hatakikom-back. Further down in Makushita, Toyonoshima also won his first honbasho bout since May in his task to make it straight back to Juryo - and not having to wait for his turn to have a bath and all the many other sekitori perks.

I think either he is injured or his body is just beat up to the point he cant win anymore. Now watch him finish 13-2 :)
Dwale 419 Posted November 14, 2016 Well, looks like Osunaarashi was having none of Ura's crap today, and given by how loud those smacks were, I think Ura's gonna be feeling those for days. Hey, I like Ura, but Osunaarashi is my main man, so of course I'm gonna cheer when he wins. Osunaarashi's taped up, so presumably he's not 100%, but I'm still anticipating a bit of a massacre at his hands down in juryo. Ikioi wrestling like a man possessed, let's hope he can keep that up for the rest of his life. lol. Wonder why Kotoyuki resorted to the henka? And Shodai, mm, mm, mm. Tasty sumo from him, like usual. When Kinta started calling Shodai as future ozeki, I took my usual "Let's wait and see" position, but it is weakening by the basho. I do think that he looks to be the real deal, but while I am not anywhere near saying "yokozuna" I am definitely thinking "ozeki" in the near future. Speaking of the up-and-comers, Mitakeumi racking up a precious week-one komusubi victory, and good for him. I'm not going to credit Endo for beating the ghost of Terunofuji, as I'm pretty sure you could blow him out of the ring with a sneeze at this point. Heal up, man, you're breaking our hearts over here!

Heal up, man, you're breaking our hearts over here! Yeah, Osu manhandled Ura. Ura needs to come up with a few reliable weapon to draw from. A small guy relying on counter punching can only go so far. So, why not henka by Kotoyuki? He should use that time to time to throw off a bigger opponent. Terunofuji is done. Against Endo, it was pretty clear that he couldn't push off of his left leg. That leg injury will be there for the entire basho. He'd be lucky if he can better his last basho of 4 wins.

Atenzan 1,081 Posted November 14, 2016 Something is wrong with Tochinoshin. He will have a significant makekoshi this basho.
Rocks 1,809 Posted November 15, 2016 Just rewatched them. The only really good makuuchi match was Ikioi-Takanoiwa IMO.
ALAKTORN 346 Posted November 15, 2016 Endō might’ve beaten Terunofuji but he’s looking bad to me. I don’t think he’s getting over 4 wins. Hakuhō sleeping on top of Aoiyama looked weird.
robnplunder 975 Posted November 15, 2016 I agree Endo isn't looking like the guy who won 13 times in the last basho.

He's facing better opponents than he did from M14 last basho (his 2 highest ranked opponents were ranked Se and M5). He's at M3 this time around, in the meat grinder (again), and it's possible he'll have to face most of the san'yaku (2 down, 9 to go?). As noted earlier, he's never gotten a KK in 5 attempts when ranked higher than M5.

I would not be surprised if he hands Takayasu his 2nd loss. That'd practically end Takayasu's chance for Ozeki. Goeido will beat Yoshikaze IMO. Although Yoshikaze has a winning record against Goeido, he can't beat today's Goeido. He is a different Goeido, a man possessed. orandashoho 720 Posted November 15, 2016 (edited) Oh wow, two unexpected Ozeki losses ... where is the Geek that won a yusho? The Kise that had tsuna hopes? and one unexpected Ozeki win. He is hanging on a thread, but maybe he can stave off demotion Edited November 15, 2016 by orandashoho

I'm going to credit some of that to Mitakeumi. You don't have a lot of time with feet solidly on the ground when Kotoshogiku is pushing, and he used his opportunities well. He has strength and he knows how to use it.
Tsubame 361 Posted November 15, 2016 Endo winning over two Ozeki... Is it this where the hype starts again?!
mikawa 1,794 Posted November 15, 2016 Goeido's been steady so far, as is Shodai, which is nice to see. Sakamoto's now at 1-1, could he be on for another 4-3 finish? Akiseyama's at 0-2 now in mid-Makushita, just 4 bashos after his Makuuchi debut. How the "INSERT ADJ" has fallen......

Injury is always a risk and can happen at any time, witness the broken leg that put Urutora out of action. Whether it is sensible to soldier on as if the alternative is death is another matter. Well I think the hype is real, but dont forget when he underperformed he wasnt all healed up. Could it be that hakuho is the heaviest he ever was this basho? his body looks a bit different, I hope he gets back to his top form. Terunofuji and Ichinojo once looked like future yokozuna....
