He's 1.94m, that's taller than Hakuho, Terunofuji, Okinoumi, Aoiyama, Tochinoshin, Kagayaki, Ichinojo... I think only Kaisei is taller than him, in Makuuchi... He's big!! Not the heaviest but big for sure!

He's tall but honestly makes no use of his height and he really does need to gain weight.

Well that is a debate (use/usefulness of height), it just seemed strange to me, because big is probably the first word that comes to mind when someone mentions Ikioi. As for the weight, I believe he is quite a bit over 150kg (do we have any recent stat?) which is fine I think...

@Mihasan Seems high to me, do we have a source?

The source is the official sumo website: http://www.sumo.or.jp/EnSumoDataRikishi/profile?id=2786

- Something's up with Hakuho. He isn't going for the belt at all and even a one legged Terunofuji was sizing him up and beat him today. The thing is though, it seems like I'm saying "there's something up with Hakuho" a lot more frequently this year than "no one's beating Hakuho". Whatever he has started sometime in July when he went 10-5 and is still bugging him. This is legitimately his worst year loss wise since 2012.

Maybe he didn't prepare well after the injury.   The next basho will tell if Henkaho is in definite decline or not.

Excellent! Thanks a lot.

I believe Ikioi won today because he didn't commit too much at the tachiai, he didn't play into Ishiura's hands...

aka if you're 1.94 and 170 kg, don't move too much, make the 1.75, 115kg guy move you, see how it goes!!

Actually addressing the point, duh me

Nice work Kise! Hopefully losing to that doofus Endo doesn't make a difference in the end.

The juryo yusho race is doing its part for excitement too.

Yeah I thought it looked bruised. That's... that's not good. It doesn't have a pattern that would have come from a single new bump, so it could be that something is broken internally again.

Dear Terunofuji,

Please take better care of yourself.

Sincerely,

Your Fans

It's been like that for most or all of the basho, I think. It's just that we haven't always been able to see it.

Terutsuyoshi wins the Makushita Yusho to be promoted to Juryo for his birthday Basho!!!

Edit: In his Yusho interview, the grin on Isegahama oyakata could rival Sadotagake oyakata when his son enter ozumo.

Why the heck is Tamawashi so out of breath after a 3 second bout?

Or is he faking it so that he doesn't have to say anything?

That torinaoshi...reminds one of Aminishiki-Kisenosato in Hatsu Basho this year.

I think Takayasu-Kaisei was the saddest bout I've ever seen - neither seemed super enthused to be there today and the tachiai seemed too much effort for them both. Even the gyoji seemed a bit 'meh' about it.

Most likely Yusho candidates should be Kakuryu, Kisenosato, Harumafuji, Goeido, Hakuho in that order (the Ishiura-Arawashi match tomorrow could be an elimination match, so to speak)

You have to fix the order now :P

I predicted kises loss today on Kintas youtube channel, but that wasnt hard to forsee. Kise is very strong yes but this brute style mostly works against smaller rikishi or a not yet healed Hakuho... Tochinoshin can go head to head with hakuho in the strength department (he proofed that many times) but he could use better techniques.

Wow,  I don't think I ever saw Tochinoshin fight so hard for a win. Good for him. Sad for  Kise though. plus it really killed what might have been an interesting weekend.

Congrats to Kak beating Hakuho too. I expected him to but not that easily. Hakuho looks like Tiger Woods after changing his swing. Just shaking his head.  I give Hak a 5% chance of beating Harumafuji tomorrow. Hakuho is looking at a 9-6. That hasn't happened in a yusho he's fully participated in since before he became a Yokozuna over 9 years ago.

Who is he fighting on the last day? He can pull off a 10-5 and tie his worst performance as a yokozuna
