can't believe they are pairing him with chiyootori for day 13....

i guess it does not matter as i expect ishiura to lose on day 12 against ikioi, but still......the nsk does obvoiusly not care about spectatorness.....(no surprise)

Perhaps, they want Ishiura to be in the hunt until the last day.  Good marketing?

Well.... Fairly easily dispatched by Ikioi today, but isn't he fighting Arawashi and not Chiyootori tomorrow?

Arawashi is no pushover for Ishiura.   11th win is going to be elusive.

Shodai & Mitakeumi careers have been mirroring each other's, Mitakeumi being 1/2 step faster.   It's Shodai's turn to be a sanyaku.

Yeah, Kise!   He's still in the hunt.   He beat Harumafuji, bad tachi-hai and all.  This basho has been awesome.

Kisenosato is probably the winner for year end wins after that.

There goes Hakuho's yusho chance.   He has not been looking like himself.   I thought he was going to finish off Terunofuji for sure.   Well, congrats to Teru.  He's Ozekiship is intact.

Might be something about random doofuses winning (courtesy of and kudos to Randomitsuki here).

YEAH! HAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA! *ahem* Kisenosato manhandles Harumafuji for the win. So, so psyched to see one my favorite guys in there taking names at the highest levels. A great accomplishment from a great rikishi. All due congratulations. Yes, odds are good he'll choke in the end, but for the moment, he and his fans are riding high.

Terunofuji gets another win over Hakuho. Their head-to-head now stands at 7 to 4. Against the likes of Hakuho, that's more than respectable. If he ever returns to 100%, the upper-rankers would do well to watch their backs where he's concerned.

Ishiura lost. I expected that, as Ikioi isn't exactly a slowpoke, but Ishiura didn't really even seem to have a plan. If he did, it, ah...didn't work. lol. Tough opponent for him tomorrow, too, but we'll see how he does.

Tochinoshin reminding us of his incredible power. Kisenosato needs to be careful. Indeed, all of his opponents do.

I don't think Kotoyuki's going to save his rank, but he ought to be good for a couple more victories, so I expect he won't fall too far. Maybe he'll pull himself together in time for the next basho.

Congratulations to Shodai and Mitakeumi for their respective wins.

Takayasu demoralized, poor guy. Hey, he had a good run and it was fun ride for his fans. He may not be ozeki material, but he's still an excellent wrestler. And who knows what the future holds?

Endo completely outmatched there, with Goeido shoving him halfway to the dressing rooms. I concede that Endo has potential, but he's just so dang inconsistent. Still, he's young and has room to grow.

In the past, Hakuho always took advantage of someone trying to change grips and immediately drove him out.  Today no reaction when Terunofuji did it.  Hakuho definitely losing a step this basho, perhaps not fully healed.

It still looks like a Kakuryu / Harumafuji race.... Kakuryu faces his nemesis tomorrow.

Kisenosato will end 13–2 and restart his tsuna run. Whether or not he’ll actually win the cup depends on Kakuryū and Harumafuji.

So disappointing to see Hakuhō like that. If he’s not getting back to form, I hope he retires.

Likewise it’s painful to see Terunofuji in that condition. If he had never gotten injured, he would be the strongest current yokozuna in my opinion. Endō would be ōzeki. Sumō really needs to start seriously preventing rikishi injuries. I don’t know what could be done, but there needs to be professional help.

After the last couple of days I can't see Kisenosato losing another match this basho. Him getting the Yusho or not probably depends on the outcome of Kakuryu vs Hakuho.

I do hope Kakuryu remains on top though, he has gotten plenty of criticism and some of it pretty legitimate. Winning a basho would be a great way to silence those doubters.

Most likely Yusho candidates should be Kakuryu, Kisenosato, Harumafuji, Goeido, Hakuho in that order (the Ishiura-Arawashi match tomorrow could be an elimination match, so to speak)

if Kakuryu loses one more, Kisenosato gets the advantage of having an easier schedule (he already met and beaten the top 4 sekitori, who are now having their mini round robin). After Tochinoshin, his closest match "may" be with Terunofuji.

Thoughts on today:

- You could really see how undersized Ishiura is when paired against Ikioi today. In the long run I think he's going to struggle like a lot of people of similar size do.

- Did not see the Kisenosato win coming at all. The Chokeozuna has snuck back in there. As always...don't get your hopes up. He'll find a way. He should in theory have Kotoshogiku and Terunofuji on Days 14 and 15 and since both have had their fate this tournament decided already, I would think he could beat both.

- Something's up with Hakuho. He isn't going for the belt at all and even a one legged Terunofuji was sizing him up and beat him today. The thing is though, it seems like I'm saying "there's something up with Hakuho" a lot more frequently this year than "no one's beating Hakuho". Whatever he has started sometime in July when he went 10-5 and is still bugging him. This is legitimately his worst year loss wise since 2012.

Worth the "like" all by itself.

EDIT: Kisenosato is my second-favorite rikishi, but...yeah. If the shoe fits...

as i wrote before, i think kotoshogiku will be kyujo

Never. He's not injured and will not be "allowed" to go kyujo as long as he can be involved in who is getting the Cup. An Ozeki does not pull out on the last three days unless he is dead. I remember Kotooushuu doing it and the resulting tidal wave of anger from the old men.

Today's quote from him : "I'm losing because I am not taking the initiative. Only three days of honbasho left this year so I'd like to come to grips with that feeling and when it's all over I'd like to reflect upon whatever it is I have to reflect upon.."

Kotoshogiku will never go kyujo. He'll just put more tape on.

I usually don't think of Ikioi as a particularly big-bodied rikishi, but man did he look huge next to Ishiura.

And Hakuho attempting tsuppari against Terunofuji - now I've really seen everything.

Kisenosato made it look like Harumafuji could have had a gun in his offense and Kise would have still taken it. I'm still not going to start on Kise-hype, especially since Kakuryu is in the driver's seat.

He's 1.94m, that's taller than Hakuho, Terunofuji, Okinoumi, Aoiyama, Tochinoshin, Kagayaki, Ichinojo... I think only Kaisei is taller than him, in Makuuchi... He's big!! Not the heaviest but big for sure!
