Harumafuji?

If Ishiura wins, I am with you.  Let's create a new cult.  Hare Ishiura, hare, hare.

I guess you could change your name to Ishiura and then join that club that he goes to that Akinomaki mentioned.

This is a really exciting basho. There's no telling who's going to win at this point. I'm most of all excited for Shodai likely going up to San'yaku for the first time and of course Ishiura's astonishing debut performance.

On one hand we see amazing competitive sumo at the top ranks, while at the same time witnessing the rise of new elite prospects.

I can only agree - Kisenosato toppling Kakuryu today only added to the excitement .At this point, I will be rooting for any of these two to take the yusho, although if someone else sneaks it in, so be it, too, can't wait to see what happens next!

Now it's a basho! I had this nagging feeling that Kisenosato was going to lose today, and when the match started I was like, "No, what the **** are you doing!?" He evidently knew what to do, though. Great win for him and doubly great for making an already exciting basho even more so. I love this guy.

As for Shodai, I thought at first this should have been shini-tai, but after watching the match a second time, I see why they called it how they did. Shodai turned his shoulders at the edge, pulling Ikioi to the left, hence, shini-tai was not appropriate in this case. Still a tough call, though, and I'm sure it's left a bad taste in the mouth for many people.

Is Ishiura going to be Mainoumi 2.0 or what? I hope this isn't a fluke because he's been a delight to watch. Fluke or not, he's made a hell of a splash here in his debut. I don't reckon his odds of taking the cup are very good, but it would be jaw-dropping levels of awesome if he did.

Endo v Yoshikaze was a fun one with lots of movement.

Mitakeumi appears to have manifested textbook "shin-komusubi curse." Poor guy. But, he'll be back, I'm sure of it.

Harumafuji just kinda heaving Kotoshigiku, there. Pretty cool.

And Hakuho, hmm. He's not ready for retirement yet, but I do think he's slipping, and has been for some time now.

Psyched for tomorrow. Oh, yes.

Ishiura never once in his 10 basho in Juryo had 10 wins.  Now in his first Makuuchi basho he has 10 after Day 11.

That would be the first time since 2003.

A yusho winner list can be found here.

Amazing, almost too amazing. How many guys are going to lose in the exact same way before one of them realizes there is no way he is going to do a full tachiai? If Ikioi doesn't stand straight up and start Tsupparing the crap about of Goldenrod I will lose all respect for him. This is a joke.

Ikioi's cauliflower ear is horrifying in HD.

I don’t think Shōdai was shinitai, the whole reason why Ikioi stepped out was because Shōdai twisted him around. That was not kabaite (kabaiashi?). Though the isamiashi call does seem weird. Hakuhō not himself, I hope at least in January he’ll have recuperated…

My question before was real: are they letting Ishiura yūshō? When’s he getting an ōzeki?

Agreed. Had Shodai not twisted Ikioi, Ikioi could have pushed himself over in a more steady manner, but Shodai's offense caused him to put his foot out. I have no problem with that call.

So does your mother.

Wow, Sokokurai was impressive agasint Chiyoshoma, an up and coming Mongolian rikishi.

Ishiura perfected that semi-henka.  Another easy win, this time over M9 Myogiryu.

Sokokurai, ganbade!

If he was not banned for two years, he would have reached sanyaku......

This basho, twisting and turning, will be an exciting one...... after the zuna-run and ozeki-run went broken and Endo slowed down, fans began to lose faith. But suddenly, Kise's winnings over the two yokozuna, plus Ishiura's 10 winning streak, revived this basho!

By the way, if Ishiura wins today, will he be given an ozeki or a yokozuna to fight?

I would like to see him at yusho playoff with Hakuho, although the chance is very slim ...... however, if the torikumi committee continues to deny him of sanyaku rikishi, he may reach win-13!

Wow, I'm impressed Aminishiki was able to eat that tachi-ai and still manage to win. It looked like a pretty stiff hit.

Osunaarashi could have recovered and won, but he was too fixated on trying to get his right hand on the belt. I guess it's easy to say this as a spectator rather than a participant, but he really should have seen that coming a mile away.

Ishiura! One of the sansho is now locked for him, what an amazing basho!!

No such thing as a "locked" sansho, not when the old men of the NSK have yet to vote on who gets what prizes.

Not great quality I'm afraid but it's better than nothing - Satonofuji topples Hibikiryu for the 7th tasukizori win of his career.

Some thoughts:

- The right call was made on the Ikioi match.

- Hakuho's not going for the belt at all lately which I think is hurting him. He's just going for slaps and shoulders. This is what he did before in past tournaments when he looked injured.

- If you needed a clear picture of Terunofuji being healthy or not, today was pretty good. You can see him hobbling off of one leg. I think he can probably pay off Koto to lose for him.

- Kakuryu looked like he slipped to lose today and he just couldn't get a decent grip at all. Kise showed some really good defense of his belt by trapping Kak's arms and stopping any belt grabbing. With that being said, please don't start the "Kise can win" stuff.

- Harumafuji has to be the favorite going forward. He has done really good sumo and is messing up other wrestlers games by going after their legs. It's just a guess and all, but I think a 14-1 is the likely result.

- Ishiura's "Harumafuji Special" was so fast and strong today. I do get concerned though that people are going to figure him out by next tournament. We see this happen every tournament so I hate to even promote the idea that he could win this thing but...he really could win this thing. He will likely have to fight Kotoshogiku or Kisenosato if he can make it to 12-1. If he makes it to 12-1, he legitimately has a chance.

I really hope that they find a way to get Ishiura up to face the top guys, but it's looking slim. The top 4 will be unavailable (unless they stop two of the top for from meeting). Kisenesato still has Terunofuji, Kotoshogiku and Okinoumi. I can see them pulling Okinoumi and inserting Ishiura as an option. Otherwise, Tamawashi is the bast bet.

Kise fought all 3 Yokozunae and only has to fight 2 more Ozeki, so Kise vs Ishiura is possible.

Giku fought all 3 Yok's and all but 1 Ozeki, so Giku vs Ishiura is also possible.

And believe me, Ishiura is getting one or those two by Friday if he keeps winning.

I saw that Kotoshogiku has a couple of potential spots open, but I wasn't sure if him hobbling around on his bad knees would be the best test for Ishiura.
