John Gunning chats with Kintamayama and Jason-Kyushu 2016

Recommended Posts

John hosted a nice chat with me and Jason. As usual, incredibly bold predictions that will come back to bite me in the ass but.. It was fun.

If, hypothetical, Goeido gets a 15-0 (last time), 12-3, 12-3, without another yusho, will they promote him?

I doubt it, unless the first 12-3 is a playoff loss.

A big Mahalo to all three of our You Tube Sumo Providers. The interaction was priceless. I made a comment on the forum some time ago about hoping that these 3 could have a "summit", and I'm VERY HAPPY it has come to pass. John is the level headed moderator, while Moti makes everything he says full of color and life, and Jason is the everyman and loyal to his peeps. I'm not gonna spoil the vid for everyone, but I must AGREE with Moti about his prediction for the Yusho. Totally AGREE.

My "Prediction"

Moti 15-0 Y

Jason 13-2 J

John 12-3 K

:-D

Thank you very much to all three participants. I really enjoyed watching.

I thought I was going slightly mad thinking what I was thinking about forthcoming events. Having watched Moti "go out on a limb" and say exactly what I was thinking, maybe I'm not..

And Moti...if you read this...Musashimaru was a PERFECT example......as is Asahifuji (Isegahama)

This is a great video.

I can see Goeido doing well. Something seems to be working for him. I also have the same feeling about Kakuryu.

I enjoyed the video a great deal and would not mind at all to see more like that.

I was surprised to hear Kinta predict a Goeido promotion, but after last basho, I'm not saying anything is impossible. The Japanese would certainly love it, and that ultimately is good for sumo as a whole. Hence, I will be cheering Goeido this tournament, win or lose.

Really enjoyed it, hope you can it regularly, ahead of every basho, would be a treat. Anyway thanks a lot for this one!!

Just a question for Kintamayama, regarding Musashimaru, in the flow of the conversation you mention "with everyone around..." I don't know if you mean us, the fans (thinking he wouldn't do it) or you mean all the big guns (Takanohana/Akebono) like Goeido will have to face this basho? If it's the latter it's not really the case, I remember the feeling back then having cheered for Musa for years, thinking this is the perfect "storm" (I think Akebono missed the first basho and Takanohana dropped out, and Wakanohana, well....) filled with hope but also dread it could break him, if he couldn't take advantage... I'm not as optimistic as you about Goeido, though it would really be great to see!

Anyway, thanks again to you three, really hope you'll have another soon!

I meant the big guns. You are right that in the first basho everyone was missing, but Akebono came back the second basho IIRC and the yusho was decided in the final match of the final day.. He never had it easy with Akebono (16-22).The general feeling back then was that he would never make it in any scenario (unless you were a die-hard fan, in which case you must certainly like Bruce Willis). But you are correct - as is what usually happens, he did it while the rest were away. I remembered it differently but I am not as young as I would like to be..

Oh don't get me started on youth ;-)! Man that clip put me right back, the aguish and the relief when he finally pushed Akebono down... I would totally agree with you on the general feeling, I liked him and wanted him to get the rope and wasn't convinced he would do it! At least he had one bout, and victory obviously, against one of the the 3 Yokozuna!!

Sumo in the 90s was amazing!! Great memories!

The Cubs won the World Series.

Donald Trump won the American presidential election.

If Goeido gets his tsuna, I'm buying a lottery ticket. It's plainly time for improbable things to happen.

It would be awesome if someone could compile the predictions made here.  I wonder how many of Moti's "out-on-a-limb" predictions will come true?  I was doubtful when he predicted Ura to go makekoshi at J1, but that was on the mark.  There's that Mark fellow showing up again!  :-P
