orandashoho 720 Posted April 10, 2017 @Akinomaki -- How can I "like" information like that? It's terrible for those among us who haven't gotten in there in time, and I fear it will only get worse. But thanks for posting!
kuroimori 1,634 Posted April 12, 2017 Hello from Tokyo and sorry to inform that I will not be able to join the Forum Meeting May 2017 - but I am already thinking about a repeater, maybe in Kyushu, November 2017 or Tokyo, January 2018. In case you guys are still looking for a place to dine after a day full of Sumo, I just found this restaurant: http://www.motijapan.com

I may not want to wait another twenty years for a repeat, but it will be longer than a year I'm afraid. Going to an Indian restaurant in Japan wasn't really in the plan... but we just simply HAVE to go there if Kintamayama comes too!
Kintamayama 47,378 Posted April 12, 2017 (edited) It appears a few sites have tickets galore - they are double the official price but they exist. A friend just bought two B stand seats for day 6 for $175. This includes transportation to and from the venue. Site- Viator. More day 6 (as an example) available tickets, even more expensive, here. Akinomaki 41,858 Posted April 13, 2017 I'll be at the kokugikan also on day 11 - with a 60% more expensive ticket than the proper way. All this unauthorized reselling is a violation of the user contract by the one who bought it under his registered name (printed on the ticket) and the ticket can be declared void - remains to be seen if I get in. Tiger Tanaka 227 Posted April 13, 2017 Tickets just arrived for Day 12! Best of luck to everyone that pre-ordered, hope you get your desired seats and days.
Kuroyama 715 Posted April 13, 2017 I have to wonder if a number of heya supporters haven't taken advantage of their connections to acquire large blocs of tickets, to resell at large profit.

Back when I used to go in using tickets I once or twice brought the wrong day and no one noticed. That was the way it was handled in the past, but there never had been the case that internet professionals were able to amass a good part of the already very few remaining tickets, while the traditional older sumo fans couldn't even get one in the first line at the kokugikan: the media are full of demands for measures to counter that. We may see some official pressure via the monkasho on the NSK to deal with this problem and enforce the checking of contract violations - but maybe not yet for this basho. Kuroyama 715 Posted April 14, 2017 15 hours ago, John Gunning said: So how many people are coming and what days do you want to go see training? Right now I'm in the middle of an eight-day straight stretch of visiting heya / watching keiko and early May is going to be hectic with several sports running competitions we are covering so the sooner I have dates and names the better the chance I have of being able to take you. I'll be going to the basho two days at least and maybe a few more depending on what work I need to do there so I might stop by and say hello if I know where people are sitting and have time. Can those involved start a PM thread soley for the keiko watching so we can sort that. I've started the PM thread and there has already been some discussion on it. If I've left off anyone who plans to be there, please reply so someone can add you.
Konosato 46 Posted May 1, 2017 I will also be part of the Natsu Basho this May. On friday 19th of May, Arena A, Westside and on the 20th in Arena B. On the 21st and 22nd I will be in Arena A + B, on the opposite. I hope to meet other Sumo fans from different forums.

We have a PM thread going to discuss a pre-basho heya visit, but I'm not sure how to add someone. Based on these dates you may not be there at the right time anyway. We'll probably create a separate PM thread to keep in touch during the basho, so folks who might have trouble getting their mobiles working properly on Japan's cell network can use regular wi-fi instead. We'll be sure to include you on that one.

I live an hour out of Tokyo and don't have any tickets but I don't mind coming along for a beer if there are a few people going out one night. Obviously the more people on one evening the better.

In that case, it would be very helpful if folks who are definitely going to be in the area round about the time of the basho would say so. That way I can tell who should be in the thread. It will get very confusing otherwise.

Sakura 1,524 Posted May 6, 2017 Now that the time has come for this I hope that those of you going will post some nice pictures. To give you an incentive to have your picture taken with a rikishi I have devised the following points system. For each rikishi pictured with you, you score 1pt for Jonokuchi, mae-zumo or banzuke-gai 2pt for Jonidan 5pt for Sandanme 8pt for Makushita 15pt for Juryo 20pt for Maegashira 24pt for Komusubi 25pt for Sekiwake 30pt for Ozeki 40pt for Yokozuna hope this works... Kuroyama 715 Posted May 7, 2017 Anyone who will be in the area tomorrow (May 8 Japan time) who wants to go on the heya visit, who might have been missed for the PM thread, please reply here ASAP and call out @John Gunning so he knows to expect you.

I will only be able to go on day 12. Any tips on best way to get pictures with rikishi? Are there designated times during the day where rikishi take pictures or are you essentially trying to get pictures with them in the background? Any advice from veteran fans and attendees is greatly appreciated and my apologies if this has been posted somewhere else already!
Akinomaki 41,858 Posted May 8, 2017 The best way to get pics with juryo and plain makuuchi rikishi is to wait outside where the rikishi leave: those who walk there slowly are usually willing to do fan service, especially those who won. Those who try to rush away or use another route won't be persuaded that easy. The lower ranks are usually more friendly and agree to have a pic taken anywhere in the kokugikan. The sanyaku may leave after the day ended, so those who have time to wait can get them there - but yokozuna/ozeki usually leave from the underground parking lot. orandashoho 720 Posted May 8, 2017 Got into the Anne Yokozuna hostel. It's pretty good. Roomy spaces, nice kitchen and lounge areas, the lockers are a joke but I'll be carrying my valuables and the suitcase is too big for the locker in any case. PASMO has turned out to be very useful. Walked around the Kokikugan today, had a look at the Sumo museum. Lots of pictures of Kisenosato's investiture as Yokozuna. I never knew there was such a thing as a yokozuna contract that he had to sign. There's hundred of food joints in the area. Anyone got a recommendation? Katooshu 3,485 Posted May 9, 2017 Based on videos Ive seen of fans waiting outside for the rikishi, Ura and Yutakayama stand out as being very accomodating with taking pictures and signing autographs. Yutakayama in particular seemed to stay forever doing it....
Kuroyama 715 Posted May 9, 2017 As I type I'm navigating the Tokyo subway system on my way to Ryogoku and should be in my room at the Ryogoku View by 1545 or so.
orandashoho 720 Posted May 9, 2017 (edited) Care to go somewhere this evening, or are you too pooped from the long trip? It takes me about five minutes to get to the RV West entrance. Edited May 9, 2017 by orandashoho
