kuroimori 1,634 Posted August 28, 2016 Wow! Osunaarashi gets demoted from M3 to J1 while Amakaze catapults from J11 to M13 - didn't see that coming...
Gurowake 4,054 Posted August 28, 2016 Massive punishment to Osunaararashi for being constantly injured. Not even J1e is a huge slight in my mind.

Well, I just compared Juryo to what I projected, and the kyujos are further down there as well. They keep getting less and less nice to kyujo sekitori.
Sumozumo 240 Posted August 29, 2016 The last time a M3e guy got booted back to Juryo for 0 wins was 1770! (Totally ignoring everything that's different) Anyway this whole trend makes it useless to think they'll bring back injury protection anytime soon...

I'd love to know I assume he's talking about (from Wikipedia): kōshō seido (公傷制度) Public Injury System. Introduced in 1972, this system allowed a wrestler who had been injured in the ring during a tournament to sit out the next tournament without any effect on his rank. It was controversially abolished at the end of 2003.
Gurowake 4,054 Posted August 29, 2016 (edited) One thing with the new Kyokai web site that's a positive is that the Banzuke Topics are posted in English already. http://www.sumo.or.jp/EnHonbashoTopics/banzuke_topics edit: It also uses a few different turns of phrase, so my guess is that they have a completely new web operation along with English translator. WAKATAKE 2,656 Posted August 29, 2016 They also don't have PDF tables available anymore which is not so great
word20 21 Posted August 29, 2016 This basho I think it will be interesting following Shoudai and Mitakeumi in Makuuchi division, the two newcomers and Ura and Ishiura in the Juryo division. It will be hard for them when some has been demoted to this division. At the same time Let us see how it goes with Kisenosato and his achivement to become a Yokozuna
word20 21 Posted August 29, 2016 Here I have made a pdf file of the list that Kuroimori has made of Makuuchi division and Juryo division and upper makushita division so you can download this file here. Banzuke September 2016.pdf
Senkoho 552 Posted August 29, 2016 Looks like NSK have lost their knowledge on how capital letters work in English... All the shikona start with small letters on their banzuke.

orandashoho 720 Posted August 29, 2016 With Aminishiki being so low down in Juryo, it will be impossible to regain Makuuchi rank in one basho even if he wins the yusho.

Tsubame 361 Posted August 29, 2016 Put Osunaarashi's demotion in that context: They give him easier opponents, knowing of what he is capable of, so that his fights next basho will be more easy, and thus better chances to heal his injuries, to recover and comming back to makuuchi in a better physical state.

Muhomatsu 229 Posted August 30, 2016 The NSK's kaimei rikishi page shows Shikoku changes for Amakaze and Houkahou. I did not see any discernible changes on that page. What was changed?

First names - but they don't show them or a direct link to the rikishi full name on the kaimei page e.g. Amakaze: 13 hours ago, Akinomaki said: And the really lucky new makuuchi - Amakaze he can change his name plate one group up from juryo o he changed his first name to that of the oyakata: from 2 to 1 - Kouichi 浩一 instead of Kouji 浩二 - Sumo Reference still has Kento, his real first name, which he changed to Kouji before the Natsu-basho And the promised more information on the heya page also doesn't give the first name of Hokaho - only for sekitori first names are shown and only they have an individual page. robnplunder 975 Posted August 30, 2016 (edited) As for me, Juryo bouts are going to be very interesting to watch with the likes of Ura, Aminishiki, Toyonoshima, Osu, Ishuira, Satoyama, Daiki, Amuru, ... Although, I think Toyonoshima may not do well so soon after a serious injury. This is a 2nd time for Shodai to be fighting at upper M rank. Let's see if he can stick around this time. I think he will. Both Kotos need to come back from the last basho's showing. I give Kotoyuki a better chance to improve on his last basho. I expect Kotoshogiku to barely keep his Ozeki title a la Terunofusi in the last basho. Endo will make a comeback and move up the rank. In Aki basho, I expect the same from Icinojo - a strong start followed by a fizzle after a few losses. Edited September 1, 2016 by robnplunder
