Forum update complete

Recommended Posts

Now that the basho is over and done with, we'd like to inform you of the upcoming changes on the forum.

As some you might have noticed, the IP.Board 3 forum suite which has served us reliably for a good few years is approaching the end of its lifespan. This leaves us no option but to move on to the new and improved IPS Community Suite. As the software has reached version 4.1 we hope that it has matured to a point where most of the major issues have been ironed out.

The update itself is a fair bit more complicated than previous updates. In addition to upgrading the forum software, it involves server environment updates (PHP and MySQL), database migration, and database collation change. Due to the complexity of the process and the potential complications we may run into, we can't give you a simple timeframe for the update. But rest assured, things should be up and running well before the next basho.

We will try to minimize the downtime, but some interruptions to our regular service are expected. Apologize in advance for the inconvenience. We'll keep you updated as things progress.

TL;DR: forum update imminent, expect downtime, we'll keep you updated.

The forum software has been upgraded to the latest version of IPS Community Suite 4. While the board is already up and running, the upgrade isn't finished yet. Both post data (posts, images, signatures, etc.) and forum settings (themes, settings, etc.) still need to be converted. These conversion processes will be running in the background, but they might have an impact on the forum performance. Some posts will appear garbled before the post data is fully converted. We'll be fine-tuning the settings over the next few weeks, so some changes are still expected.

Please feel free to leave your comments and feedback in the dedicated thread.

The data conversion processes have finished and the forum is running smoothly. We will still be changing things here and there, but these changes should have a minimal impact on normal forum operation. The upgrade is done, welcome to IPS Community Suite 4!
