WAKATAKE 2,667 Posted July 13, 2016 (edited) As nobody talks about him: Kaisei is looking good. I was beting 3-12 this basho, but who knows? Let's not forget, day 1 was a freebie for him. Let's see what happens when he has his matches with the big boys. Also, first kinboshi for Tochiozan in ten years basho! http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1677549.html Edited July 13, 2016 by WAKATAKE
Sumozumo 240 Posted July 13, 2016 Kaisei did get KK at sanyaku last time so let's not forget that. Tomorrow is Ura - Daiki. Bout history between them: http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Query_bout.aspx?show_form=0&shikona1=Ura&shikona2=Daiki

egparis18 622 Posted July 13, 2016 Did Arawashi just put salt down his mawashi?
rhyen 1,842 Posted July 13, 2016 No, he sprinkles it on the front part of his mawashi, and a bit of it sticks on the top.
kuroimori 1,634 Posted July 13, 2016 Endo is toast, soft toast that is. He had no chance whatsoever against Shodai.
kuroimori 1,634 Posted July 13, 2016 Ichinojo looks comfortable and confident early on but tomorrow will be a first test to that as he will be facing Yoshikaze - his first opponent where he has a negative overall record (1-2, he lost the last 2 bouts against him)
kuroimori 1,634 Posted July 13, 2016 Well, it looks like Kotoyuki has run out of HUH! for now... Kaisei seems to like being in sanyaku as he looks really determined to extend his stay there. Has he calmly taken the next step?
kuroimori 1,634 Posted July 13, 2016 Kisenosato has this kind of "you all don't know yet...) smile again...
Taigiin khuu 42 Posted July 13, 2016 Just watched the Takarafuji interview after his win against Giku. Seemed like a really fun interview... he was speaking about Aminishki. If anyone could post and translate that interview, I'd be very grateful. And want to add, its so wonderful to see Terunofuji is well again.

I don't mind who wins as long as it's a good bout. I should think it will be.

Jyuunomori 226 Posted July 13, 2016 Both Ura's are sitting comfortably with 4-0 records. I am surprised that either one of them didn't lose any bouts till now. Shodai looks damn strong, will become Sanyaku this year. Maybe going for an Ozeki run next year. Mitakeumi is also getting his turn to taste the power of Sanyaku and Yokozunae. He is not enjoying it one bit. :P Kaisei looks like a strong Sekiwake now. He could become a Sanyaku regular now, probably not Ozeki material though, since the B exists. Yoshikaze is back from the slump it seems. I still find it funny that he performs better now than he did when he was in his 20's. Will he be a Yokozuna when he hit 40? Ichinojo & Terunofuji seems to have returned to form somewhat. Ichinojo mentally and Terunofuji physically. At least Terunofuji is going to get his 8 wins and be out of Kadoban. Kintamayama 45,374 Posted July 13, 2016 (edited) Kaisei? As the East Sekiwake, he has it pretty easy the first few days. Steak time- no more than 6 wins. He's beaten Tochinoshin (pretty even score between them) and Kotoyuuki (dominates him) so far. Let's not be L7. Edited July 13, 2016 by Kintamayama
hamcornheinz 839 Posted July 13, 2016 I found today terrifying. Its like they took every frail old man and woman and put them in the front seats.
taresu 38 Posted July 13, 2016 I remember someone saying that Tochinoshin had a broken rib last basho... maybe he is not well yet.
ALAKTORN 346 Posted July 13, 2016 I’m surprised to see Terunofuji seemingly healthy again, but happy if it stays that way. Kakuryū out should mean some nice things for the lower jōi. I think. Kaisei might kachikoshi? No idea what’s wrong with Kotoshōgiku. No way he’s getting kachikoshi at this point. I think I know that Nagoya is the most slippery basho of the year (because it’s so hot?), and that sounds like something that works against Kotoshōgiku’s style but even that can’t explain how badly he’s been doing. MrGrumpyGills 134 Posted July 13, 2016 Both knees are bandaged, maybe he's injured again.
Dwale 419 Posted July 13, 2016 Wow, I can't believe Ura managed to salvage that match. That was crazy.

What worries me is that all 4 losses were straightforward power losses-no henka or trickery involved by his opponents, some not exactly the pinnacles of sumo. He keeps saying he had excellent training before the basho, but I remember it being rather bumpy and unstable. And of course there's the deal he made with the Mongolians- yusho for retirement.

ronnie 221 Posted July 13, 2016 Nasty kachiage by the Boss.... I thought it was an excellent kachiage! I'm beginning to wonder if Tochiozan has said or done something behind the scenes that has irritated Hakuko.
