ScottyJoyJrBebe 97 Posted July 24, 2016 Who wants to predict the number of sanshos in this basho? Takayasu, Tochiozan, Takarafuji, Yoshikaze, Takanoiwa? The record is 5 (twice) http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Query.aspx?show_form=0&show_sansho=on&group_expand=on&group_by=basho&having=5&form1_m=on&form1_ss=on&form1_ks=on&form1_gs=on chishafuwaku Has there been an announcement yet about who has won a sansho and/or who will win one if they win their senshuraku bout? Kanto-Sho: Takarafuji AND Takanoiwa Shukun-Sho: Yoshikaze Gino-Sho: Takayasu All of who are VERY deserving. Chisafuwaku got 4 of the 5 recipients!
Jojo 11 Posted July 24, 2016 What the hell. I have no idea how Hakuhō lost that bout Kisenosato had no tachiai both times, Im surprised the second one wasnt called a matta too. I thought he was done for and then wat. Despite the win, its clear Kisenosato has a really big mental issue. I think Hakuhō will beat Harumafuji tomorrow unless Haru pulls a trick (maybe the non-henka) and Kise will beat Gōeidō. If Hakuhō loses tomorrow, I think hes gonna tie his worst-ever record as yokozuna (105) which last time was due to an injury. Im really curious to see what Hakuhō has to say about his performance this basho, I wonder if he really is injured. Kōnosuke is my favorite gyōji btw. Here is the official explanation for Hakuho's under performance: Hakuho tripped his left toe days ago thus his toe is injured. He couldn't beat Kisenosato yesterday and can't beat Harumafuji today, all because of that injured toe. Kisenosato has to beat Goeindou to keep his tsuna-run alive. I think Hakuho is actually nursing/hiding other injuries, for instance he hasn't really used his right hand as he would normally, in a couple of bouts (Takarafuji springs to mind) he kept it close to himself, next to his belly, when he could/should have gone for a mawashi or an arm. Anyway the way he has used it this basho doesn't feel natural to me...
rhyen 1,809 Posted July 24, 2016 Kyokutaisei and Asahisho are going to be starring at the Makushita abyss next basho.
MrGrumpyGills 119 Posted July 24, 2016 Well, I'll be - Takanoiwa beat Yoshikaze!
ronnie 221 Posted July 24, 2016 (edited) Did NHK expect Yoshikaze to win that bout. Surely Takanoiwa should have been in the interview booth! Edited July 24, 2016 by ronnie
rhyen 1,809 Posted July 24, 2016 The YDC has stated that they will not recommend Kisenosato for Yokozuna this basho, but apparently there are voices within the NSK who want Kise to get promoted on a 12-3 even WITHOUT the yusho. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1683465.htmlHeh, what a BS article. Nobody actually mentioned by name who wants Kise promoted that way. Heck, nobody even mentioned by name who is claiming that there are such people. Meanwhile, the shimpan committee has officially stated that it's yusho or bust: http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1683722.html Most likely it is people outside the NSK who are doing the NHK commentary today. ronnie 221 Posted July 24, 2016 Takarafuji wasn't taking any risks with getting the sanyaku slot.

rhyen 1,809 Posted July 24, 2016 (edited) Terunofuji wins. So will Takarafuji get the Sekiwake or will they put Kaisei at Sekiwake W to spite him for the henka? Edited July 24, 2016 by rhyen
MrGrumpyGills 119 Posted July 24, 2016 Terunofuji can breathe easy for now!
rhyen 1,809 Posted July 24, 2016 (edited) Hakuho will not care about a Harumafuji Yusho, probably go all out and make Harumafuji fight 2 more matches? Hakuho's right toe must be really hurting to step backward like that. Just saw the makkai-morisashi transition in the replay. Kishinoyama 582 Posted July 24, 2016 (edited) Hakuho will not care about a Harumafuji Yusho, probably go all out and make Harumafuji fight 2 more matches? No.... I think Hakuho is injured and I think it is at least the toe on his right foot if not more than that. Having had a broken toe in the past, I can tell you that it is no joke.... :-( Edit: I am very happy that Terunofuji is still an Ozeki. rhyen 1,809 Posted July 24, 2016 Hakkaku & Nishonoseki shimpan Bucho are praising Kisenosato (according to the English commentator), expect the tsunatori to be extended again.
Kishinoyama 582 Posted July 24, 2016 Hakkaku & Nishonoseki shimpan Bucho are praising Kisenosato (according to the English commentator), expect the tsunatori to be extended again. I am not surprised at this because he finished in a tie for second place. I knew a Jun-Yusho would extend the Yokozuna talk. :-)

Dapeng 232 Posted July 24, 2016 Now Hakuho the story-teller holds the key. I don't think Hakuho will shatter the tsuna dream of NSK. As a result, most probably, this basho be ended with Kise at 12 wins, Hakuho at 10 wins and Harumafuji at 13 wins. Kise at 12 wins without a yusho (in your scenario, Harumafuji has 13 wins and the yusho) won't get the tsuna, so the NSK's tsuna dream is shattered anyway. I mean if Kise wins 12 this basho, his tsuna-run will still be alive for next basho. But if he only wins 10 or 11, his tsuna-run will be reset to zero. This is my prediction: Kise will beat Hakuho today but I don't think Goeindo will beat Haru. On day-15 Haru will beat Haku to grasp yusho. Someone in the yokozuna committee said that even Kise yusho at 12 wins, there's still no post-basho promotion. As I had predicted......

Jyuunomori 226 Posted July 24, 2016 (edited) Knew it. Kisenosato will never become a Yokozuna at this rate. Let's see Kisenosato get +5 more bashos in a row with 12-3 to 13-3 records and laugh when he is still an Ozeki. He never, ever beats the Yokozuna at the highest stage when it matters. Terunofuji is not 100%, Kakuryuu is out, Kotoshogiku is out, Hakuho is injured, Goeido was sucking this basho. AND HE STILL CANNOT WIN. When Terunofuji, Giku, Hakuho and Kakuryuu get better there is not a change in hell for Kise. No change. #Frustration But Ura got the unofficial Juryo Jun-Yusho. And he actually improved from his first showing in Juryo. Going 11-4 this basho. So he is going to be Juryo 1e or 1w? http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Rikishi.aspx?r=12226 His win to lost ratio is beautiful. I also observed the fact that Ura has never lost twice in a row. Kisenosato might be setting some new most Jun-Yusho without a Yusho won records. And to be fair to him, he lost to the only other guy who also had all of these advantages as well. Harumafuji. And unlike Kisenosato, Harumafuji is really good at keeping his nerve when he is in the lead. Kisenosato's (or anyone else's for that matter) best chances are really in the rare Bashos where Hakuho isn't on his game. Hakuho will be back with a vengeance again... and Kisenosato will keep getting some more Jun-Yusho's.
Rocks 1,807 Posted July 24, 2016 I predict Hakuho will be out for the September basho. He is still the greatest ever but he is very slowly wearing down and requires more time to recover from injuries. And yes I do think he has some injuries. He will use September to rest up. I do not think Kakuryuu will be 100% by Sept. either. Harumafuji is my favorite Yokozuna and he more than deserved this win so I am very glad for him. But he is long past his days of winning Yusho back to back. He will not win in Sept. I am predicting Kisenosato will break his jinx and win the Sept. basho easily (no worse than 14-1) and will immediately be promoted to Yokozuna.
