ronnie 221 Posted July 23, 2016 If Sokokurai had put that amount of effort into half of the bouts he's lost, he'd be KK now.
taresu 38 Posted July 23, 2016 If Sokokurai had put that amount of effort into half of the bouts he's lost, he'd be KK now. I asked a few days ago if he was injured because i could not understand his progress this basho either. He seems ok in the last few days and i guess 6-9 in his rank is not that bad, but i feel that he could get his KK if he don't any injuries bothering him. Asashosakari 18,959 Posted July 23, 2016 And in his quest to maintain his rank, endou win another one, where was this guy 5 days ago?Fighting harder opponents than Sadanofuji and Toyohibiki.
Atenzan 1,074 Posted July 23, 2016 (edited) Terunofuji will be fighting Kaisei to retain his rank tomorrow. Edited July 23, 2016 by McBugger

rhyen 1,823 Posted July 23, 2016 (edited) Mattas, mattas. Hakuho loses, what will happen tomorrow? Will a 70% fit Hakuho show up? Edited July 23, 2016 by rhyen

Kishinoyama 582 Posted July 23, 2016 I would love to see the replay of the mattas to see if they were actually mattas.
d_golem 213 Posted July 23, 2016 If Hakuho doesn't exist, Harumafuji would easily be in the 5 top yokozunas of all time. Great defensive sumo by Kise. Now we'll see if Hakuho can maintain his motivation tomorrow against Harumafuji and give Kise a chance at play-offs.

rhyen 1,823 Posted July 23, 2016 Amakaze won Juryo. I just saw his interview and instantly fell in love with him. Seems articulate, positive, intelligent and sensitive- really nice guy. When told his Oyakata Oguruma was commentating he became so red I thought his head would explode. It didn't. Well, he is a natural in front of the camera after filming more than 6 episodes of his gastronomy trips around the kokugikan and Jungyo.
mikawa 1,794 Posted July 23, 2016 and Sakamoto has yet another 4-3 to his name, wouldn't be surprised if he gets 4-3 next basho as well
mikawa 1,794 Posted July 23, 2016 so Kisenosato (and Takanoiwa as it seems) still has a chance at yusho, however, I don't think Harumafuji is going to lose tomorrow though, the way he's performed this basho
mikawa 1,794 Posted July 23, 2016 out of interest, does anyone know what Harumafuji's record against Hakuho is when he's ahead of Hakuho?

If Hakuho doesn't exist (or say, got a career-ending injury 5 years ago), Harumafuji would probably get 20 or so yushos by now, which would make him a dai-yokozuna. Then again, if Hakuho doesn't exist, we would be looking at a vastly different ozumo, rikishis and everything right now, with the butterfly effect thingy and whatnot 😝What I'm trying to say is that Harumafuji is a damn fine yokozuna which unfortunately gets the short end of the stick from Lady Luck by being active in the same era as the uber-superhuman that is Hakuho.
Asashosakari 18,959 Posted July 23, 2016 (edited) out of interest, does anyone know what Harumafuji's record against Hakuho is when he's ahead of Hakuho?3-0. Met twice with Haru on 14-0 and once on 13-0. Last such meeting more than three years ago, though. Additionally they've met once while tied 14-0 (Haru won), once while tied 13-1 (ditto), and once while tied 12-0 (Haru lost). But even the last of those bouts was more than two and a half years ago. In other words, including their two playoffs tomorrow's bout will only be the 9th time in 41 meetings since Harumafuji became ozeki where he isn't trailing... It's all speculation but I highly doubt that he would be the case ... In the 18 completed basho s a Yokozuna he averages 4 losses, and beats Hakuho maybe 2 out of 5 times. There are more basho where he conceded 3 kinboshi (4) than ones here he gave none away (3). He's a great fighter with plenty of talent (as evidenced by today's bout), but he's too inconsistent, he doesn't "dominate" the lower ranked wrestlers like a dai yokozuna would. Just my 2 cents ;-) Edited July 23, 2016 by Jojo
ScreechingOwl 343 Posted July 23, 2016 If Takanoiwa wins tomorrow and Harumafuji loses, Takanoiwa will be in a yusho playoff without having faced any member of the sanyaku. (His highest aite will have been M2w Takarafuji.) Has a rikishi ever been in a makuuchi kettei-sen before without having faced any member of the sanyaku?
