kuroimori 1,634 Posted July 22, 2016 (edited) Wow! Just wow! A nice and quick tsuridashi & utchari combination from Shohozan & Tochinoshin. Shohozan (!) lifted Tochinoshin in the air tsuridashi-style but it was in the middle of the dohyo and he couldn't keep him up in the air long enough. When Tochinoshin "landed" again, he was still inside the tawara and swiftly turned the table and lifted Shohozan out of the dohyo. Awesome stuff from two makekoshi guys! EDIT: I just saw the kimarite was yorikiri, but it felt more like utchari to me. Edited July 22, 2016 by kuroimori
kuroimori 1,634 Posted July 22, 2016 and both of the pursuing Takas lost today, Takayasu lost to Aoiyama and Takarafuji just lost to Kaisei (with Isegahama Oyakata commentating it at NHK). Both are 9-4 and can now fully focus on reaching double digit wins now.

Atenzan 1,074 Posted July 22, 2016 So, what will be the requirements for Kise's Yokozuna promotion for the Aki basho? Limbo, anyone? Yusho or yusho-equivalent, followed by the same in Kyushu. Hard to keep a tsunatori running when you finish 11-4 ;)

Irakusamaru 77 Posted July 22, 2016 My prediction: Obviously Goeido will beat Haramafuji tomorrow, while a humiliated Kisenosato will rise above and beat Hakuho. Distracted on the last day by his good fortune, Kise will fall prey to Goeido while Hakuho takes out his furious rage on Haramafuji, leaving Takanoiwa to yusho and be elevated to Yokozuna. Man, I need to start my own sumo analysis website...
lackmaker 431 Posted July 22, 2016 So is Kisenosato definitely out of the race? Of course not. Today was just to show there is no plot to get him the yusho. So that over the next 2 days the plan to get him promoted can take effect. Please try and keep up.
rzombie1988 157 Posted July 22, 2016 (edited) It's just hard to believe how Kisenosato can consistently blow it time and time again. I think a big part of it is that Harumafuji and Hakuho are just better against him and have the records to prove it, but you'd think sooner or later he'd be able to pull it off. Atenzan 1,074 Posted July 22, 2016 It's just hard to believe how Kisenosato can consistently blow it time and time again. I think a big part of it is that Harumafuji and Hakuho are just better against him and have the records to prove it, but you'd think sooner or later he'd be able to pull it off. I Some choke-a-licious Kisenosato trivia, stolen from my own post in the trivia bits thread: Kisenosato now has 10 makuuchi jun-yusho and no makuuchi yusho. He is the only rikishi in recorded history to do this. Second in line is Futahaguro with 7 jun-yusho and, famously, no cup. Among the rikishi who have 10 jun-yusho to their name, everyone else (13 rikishi excluding Kisenosato) has at least five cups. Kaiou (5 yusho, 11 jun-yusho) is the only one of them to have never made yokozuna. Kisenosato is also the only rikishi in recorded history with 6 or more jun-yusho and no yusho or yusho-doten. There have been 37 rikishi with 6 or more jun-yusho. Lastly, of the 51 rikishi that have 5 or more jun-yusho, Kisenosato and Goueidou are the only two with no yusho or yusho-doten.
