Akinomaki 39,796 Posted April 26, 2017 (edited) On 25.4.2017 at 16:28, Akinomaki said: In the design for the Hokuto-no-ken kesho-mawashi set for Kisenosato for the first time manga characters from anime are used for a yokozuna set - so far only for individual kesho mawashi, recently Kinnikuman for Chiyotairyu, and also Tetsuwan-atom and Bakabon were used Also for a yokozuna set there are some with characters designed by manga artists though, but not for manga and anime On 31.12.2014 at 16:03, Akinomaki said: Hakuho will get a kesho-mawashi set with a character designed by the late manga artist Takashi Yanase, the creator of Anpanman. Tachi-mochi and tsuyu-harai have the kanji 愛 ai (love) and 勇気 yuuki (courage), like in the words of the popular Anpanman march, opening theme from the anime, lyrics by Yanase. Asameshimae 220 Posted April 29, 2017 I wonder who put up that Pepsi masashi of Takatoriki? I wouldn't be surprised if Takatoriki needs the money.. Anyway, this has got me really interested in kesho-mawashi of antiquity. Would love to see more pics of older kesho-mawashi - though they are likely less imaginative. Too bad that the further back you go (and not that far back) all pics would be black and white. I'm thinking I saw a kesho-mawashi exhibit in the sumo museum not terribly long ago? Man, my memory these days..

He may keep it and later his family owns it, or donate it - back to the donor, the heya or elsewhere. Back in the 80s means likely no trace of it on the net.

Kataoka will design a set of kesho-mawashi for Hakuho, to be ready next spring. It will be presented by the new Hakuho Nagoya koenkai, formed in July. Appeared today on Jiji: from Sponichi http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2013/03/27/kiji/K20130327005491770.html On March 27th 2013 was the presentation to Hakuho from his Nagoya koenkai - with the designer, talento and painter Tsurutaro Kataoka The one for Hakuho shows Acala (to which Kataoka feels attached) with white phoenixes, the attendants have the Nagoya symbols, the golden shachihoko on Nagoya castle. It was used that year (only?) for the dohyo-iri at the Ise shrine dohyo-iri, at the festivities for the renewal every 20 years of the shrine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqeHpt2svK4 and at the Nagoya-basho.
