kuroimori 1,634 Posted June 2, 2016 Although I am really fed up with all the football and the endless coverage of football in the media here, I will join the Bench Euro 2016 game!
Jakusotsu 6,049 Posted June 2, 2016 Football? I thought it's the European Swan Contest?!?
kuroimori 1,634 Posted June 2, 2016 Too often it is indeed the "Dying Swan" Contest, as the German expression describes faking injuries or cramps. The best display of hypocrisy in football today is this : Exchanging the "Fair Play" flags or whatever these thingies are called just before kick-off and the first dive (or hard foul) just a few minutes into play. Jejima 1,414 Posted June 3, 2016 A quick update.... I am still hoping that we can meet the target of 24 players (I see no educated pets have signed up to play yet....), but, in the meantime, I am going to start the admin required before the first round of matches. Jejima 1,414 Posted June 3, 2016 (edited) Hi! First bit of admin.... Every player needs to pick their representative teams for the tournament. You need to select in order of preference the five teams that you would most like to represent for the tournament. You will get your first choice, if no one else selects the same team. In that instance there will be a draw to see who gets that team. You may still get your second choice team (if still available) and so on, down to your fifth choice team. With every Representative team, there comes a mandatory 'Counterbalance' team. Using an idea from Achiyama (and the TUG game), I have set up a 'questionnaire' for you to click your choices of 1-5 of preference. (If this is too high-tech, you can PM me, or send an email - but I would like to try out this 'questionnaire' method.) Please make your selection as soon as possible. (I am hoping to finalise the selection of Representative teams by the end of the weekend!) Here is the questionnaire link to choose your representative name. I have ranked the 24 teams taking part (as per the rules) using the average of odds from three top bookmakers. The counterbalance team for the top ranked team is the last ranked team. The second top team is the second lowest ranked, and so on. The three bookmakers were very different in their odds for some of the teams! But the average is as below.... 1. France (Albania) 2. Germany (Hungary) 3. Spain (Northern Ireland) 4. England (Romania) 5. Belgium (Slovakia) 6. Italy (Ireland) 7. Portugal (Czech Republic) 8. Croatia (Iceland) 9. Austria (Sweden) 10. Poland (Wales) 11. Russia (Turkey) 12. Switzerland (Ukraine) 13. Ukraine (Switzerland) 14. Turkey (Russia) 15. Wales (Poland) 16. Sweden (Austria) 17. Iceland (Croatia) 18. Czech Republic (Portugal) 19. Ireland (Italy) 20. Slovakia (Belgium) 21. Romania (England) 22. Hungary (Spain) 23. Northern Ireland (Germany) 24. Albania (France) Edited June 4, 2016 by Jejima
Jejima 1,414 Posted June 3, 2016 I did this in a rush.... and an error has been spotted (thanks Kaiomitsuki).... ...This was due to Northern Ireland and Hungary having identical averaged odds (and by me not checking). By the published rules, in the case of a tie, the higher ranked in the FIFA rankings will take precedence. Hungary is currently ranked at #20 and Northern Ireland is ranked at #25, so Hungary takes precedence.
Jejima 1,414 Posted June 3, 2016 This is the corrected list (note the changes to the counterbalance teams for Germany and Spain). I don't think I can change the survey set-up as above for the selection, so please ignore the 'mistakes' in the questionnaire (i.e. the bracketed options for Germany and Spain). My sincere apologies for this mistake - I am sure there will be more to come..... 1. France (Albania) 2. Germany (Northern Ireland) 3. Spain (Hungary) 4. England (Romania) 5. Belgium (Slovakia) 6. Italy (Ireland) 7. Portugal (Czech Republic) 8. Croatia (Iceland) 9. Austria (Sweden) 10. Poland (Wales) 11. Russia (Turkey) 12. Switzerland (Ukraine) 13. Ukraine (Switzerland) 14. Turkey (Russia) 15. Wales (Poland) 16. Sweden (Austria) 17. Iceland (Croatia) 18. Czech Republic (Portugal) 19. Ireland (Italy) 20. Slovakia (Belgium) 21. Romania (England) 22. Hungary (Spain) 23. Northern Ireland (Germany) 24. Albania (France)

Fukurou 534 Posted June 5, 2016 (edited) Since I'm tracking goals again, I just want to run through my understanding of what I'm doing so 1) things can be corrected if I'm wrong, and 2) everyone else knows what's going on. Group Play - I am NOT scoring the matches. That's for the Refiojis (or others) to do. I will, however, use those match final scores and track each player's Goals Scored and Goals Against for each of their 3 matches. After the 3rd match (and perhaps more frequently) I will post the total GS and GA for each player. Round of 16, Quarters, Semis, Finals - I will, again, post GS and GA for each player after each round, with running totals. Prizes - Simultaneously with the above I will also be tracking total GS and GA for prize awards: UPDATE (copied from previous tournament rules): The Outstanding Performance Prize / Golden Boot This is the running total of the most 'official goals' scored by a team throughout a tournament. In the case of a tie, the player with the better goal difference can claim the prize. If there is still a tie (i.e. two players have identical goals scored and goals conceded records), then the two players will share the prize. Tiebreaker example: Team Green has 12 GS and 4 GA, while Team Blue has 12 GS and 5 GA. Based on goal differential, Team Green wins the award by having allowed fewer goals. Golden Gloves This is the running total of fewest 'official goals' conceded by a team throughout a tournament. Only players completing in every round of the competition are eligible to claim this prize. In the case of a tie, the player with the better goal difference can claim the prize. If there is still a tie (i.e. two players have identical goals scored and goals conceded records), then the two players will share the prize. Tiebreaker example: Team Orange has 7 GS and 4 GA, while Team Red has 6 GS and 4 GA. Based on goal differential, Team Orange wins the award by having scored more goals. Corrections, clarifications, additions anyone? Edited June 6, 2016 by Fukurou

Are there co-awards? Maybe I should go back and re-read from the beginning. Corrections, clarifications, additions anyone? I have just checked the rules that I compiled and posted - and I see that I did not include the tie-breakers.... There are some (based on goal difference, I believe), but I will need some time to check.... maybe on Thursday? (It will be a public holiday here in Hong Kong - the strange 'Dragon Boat Festival Holiday'.)
