kumasama 28 Posted May 13, 2016 Dunno if I'm a fan of the stricter four-hands-down calls. As long as both guys are in sync, I don't think it matters too much if they both touch with both hands. I like Kotoyuki, though, so I might be biased. Happily, it seems like he's beginning to adjust, which will hopefully just make him better in the long run! kumasama 28 Posted May 14, 2016 (edited) wow. just wow. I just started watching sumo since 2012, so had never heard of Chiyotaikai. You may call him a one-trick-pony but that was impressive. really puts the oshi sumo guys of today to shame (looking at you kotoyuki). that is just another level. so cool (Dribbling...) (that being said I'll take a cool uwatenage over it any day of the week) Chiyotaikai was one awesome rikishi indeed, one of my favourites too. You should read up on him more, he has a really interesting background as well. A blast from the past! Or rather, lots of high-speed tsuppari from the past! Akinomaki 40,038 Posted May 14, 2016 (edited) Didn't they say that it was last used 4 years ago or something? By Baruto if I heard right? Can't be right, right? They said that last time in juryo was 4 years ago, but there not by Baruto http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Query_bout.aspx?show_form=0&m=on&j=on&kimarite=6&onlyw1=on How does one display the query result newest first? rhyen 1,823 Posted May 14, 2016 And Harumafuji with a win I'm really hoping someone will turn into a .gif. http://doropito.tumblr.com/post/144308723807/%E6%97%A5%E9%A6%AC%E5%AF%8C%E5%A3%AB%E3%81%AE%E5%BC%95%E3%81%A3%E6%8E%9B%E3%81%91-hikkake-done-by-harumafuji

Jyuunomori 226 Posted May 14, 2016 (edited) I am going to say what we are all thinking: What the mongolians are doing is absolutely disgusting. We all know that Kisenosato and other rikishi are utter garbage and have no skill to win on their own. So they are lulling Kisenosato into feeling like he could win this and become a Yokozuna. Ichinojo giving a freebie to Kisenosato is a sign of this. Harumafuji and Kakuryuu are both planning to take the L against Kisenosato. Only for Hakuho to win the whole thing 15-0 Zensho. Mark my words. Evil bastard mongolians. But onto more serious stuff. Sato is going to get his KK tomorrow. Ura is going to get his KK as well I predict 9-6. Shodai wins against Terunofuji. Terunofuji's injury looks and probably is career ending and he is trying to hang on there to have a bout with Osunaarashi. They are friends so he probably wants to have a bout one last time. Shodai didn't have to do ANYTHING to win against him. There was even less resistance today from him. Edited May 14, 2016 by Jyuunomori
kuroimori 1,634 Posted May 14, 2016 Shodai just got his first ever ginboshi - against an ailing Terunofuji (and again no yorikiri)
Jyuunomori 226 Posted May 14, 2016 (edited) Kotoyuuki you mad dog/owl. That is some good rushing. You threw some hands at Yokozuna. I do not think I've seen Kakuryuu or any Yokozuna backpedal like that. He fought like 2 seconds and then ran away. I would do so as well If I was slapped around. Aoiyama eliminated himself by faceplant. And Hakuho rushes to aid him like an angel. :D I mean honestly? Am I blind but why did he do that? Did Hakuho use some force/jedi stuff. Or maybe I am getting old and didn't see what Hakuho did. Aoiyama was doing well too. Even though I am not sure what happened I deem it to be slippiotoshi / force taoshi. taresu 38 Posted May 14, 2016 Kotoyuuki chased down the Yokozuna, what a sad sight to see. At the end almost look to me like Kakuryuu stepped out because of the Gyoji, but maybe not.

mikawa 1,794 Posted May 14, 2016 Makushita looks like it's going to be between Onosho and Oyanagi this time, but will Daiki get the kachikoshi though? Meanwhile, it's smooth sailing for Ikegawa down in Jonokuchi
Akinomaki 40,038 Posted May 14, 2016 (edited) Did anybody mention yet that Tochinoshin went into the basho with broken right costal cartilage? In the interview yesterday he said it is better now. Edited May 14, 2016 by Akinomaki

Dwale 419 Posted May 14, 2016 Yeah, like clockwork, day seven brings us some exciting matches. Someone call Terunofuji's mom to come get him, he needs to lay down. Osunaarashi is a bad***. I think Shohozan used the correct strategy (Osunaarashi lost to that sort of "bum rush" once during his juryo layover last basho), but Osunaarashi continues to improve. He still needs to not come in so high. Close call, anyway. Kotoyuki pressed the yokozuna and outmaneuvered him, plain and simple. Just goes to show how important ring sense is. Haters take note. Anyone have a prediction for Kotoyuki's record this basho?* *I know at least several of you do XP
Sumozumo 240 Posted May 14, 2016 So if we have dameoshi as a silly newspaper kimarite then can what happened today with aoiyama as yoihiki?
DonCarlos 0 Posted May 14, 2016 Hakuho played Aoyama like playing with food just to show to Kakuryuu how yokozunas do. This!! Great job by Kotoyuki, i´m really starting to like this guy and his style. And I don´t understand Terunofuji. He should rest and try to get well, like tochinoshin did before. But seeing how he tries really hurt me.
WAKATAKE 2,644 Posted May 14, 2016 I don't need to say anything about Terunofuji because everybody's thinking the same thing. Kotoyuki, my new favorite rikishi since Tochiazuma, relentless offense overpowering Kakuryu who could give nothing in return. He started out slow this basho but I think he'll be able to make that KK now that he seems to have found his rhythm. Kisenosato is keeping up with Hakuho, I say it this way because Hakuho is the clear favorite to win so far, Kise comes in only as the challenger. Sato and Ura, continuing to make Juryo interesting. This is the hope we have in the new generation of rikishi.
bettega 431 Posted May 14, 2016 Easy basho for Kaisei! Only 6 more wins, KK and Sekiwake! (wishful thinking?)
rzombie1988 157 Posted May 14, 2016 (edited) Thoughts on the day: - Koto actually looked up today and kept control, getting the win. That's how he should be doing his tachi-ai's. Shocked Ikioi didn't try to henka anyway. - Aoiyama had the chance of a lifetime today and blew it spectacularly. While I agree that Hak was in full control, I think a straight shoulder might have knocked Hakuho back enough to lose. - Nice win by Kotoyuki. He kept Kakuryu out with the slaps. I did like the way Kakuryu circled him but he couldn't go with the advantage once he got it. - You'll be seeing Amuuru in Juryo next time unfortunately. Gaga's probably joining him. - Ichinojo put up a decent fight for a change but the bigger you are, the worse balance you seem to have in Sumo. I thought he had the win at one point. - Just checked out some of Ura's matches and he's clearly on another level. He is an absolutely genius in ring. He should be up in Makuuchi in no time. Satoyama/Ura plz. Edited May 14, 2016 by rzombie1988
