Basho Talk - Natsu Basho 2016 +++ Spoiler Alert! +++

Recommended Posts

Why don't we all stick to, hmm, not calling each other dicks. Attack a man's ideas, not his character. Also, Kakuryu hasn't been up to form lately, but during his promotion he was destroying everyone. Go back and watch his performances in those 2 basho, and then see if you will question his promotion.

HATTORIZAKURA WINS!

Stop the presses!

Someone needs to dig this win up. It took almost 5 basho but he did it. What a lord.

A shame in a way, he broke his own streak. He could have aimed to become a true legend.

Jesus...my block list is getting longer than ever. Is this kind of ill-informed, boorish abuse of other members now tolerated on this forum?

Ill informed.... not everyone shows up here knowing all, you know. Being boorish, OTOH....

Apologies...I didn't make myself clear. I meant the adjectives in conjunction with each other. I have no problem with people being ill-informed; just their attacking other people and name-calling while seemingly oblivious to their own ignorance.

Jakusotsu: yes...exactly!

Ura 172 cm and 127kg wins against Asabenkei 190cm and 187kg. This man is such a powerhouse. We need to create Ura appreciation thread, this guy will be so fun to watch for the next 10 years.

Sato likewise wins against Jokoryu but we all knew that. Sato keeps on crushing Juryo.

Harimanage against Kitaharima by Ishiura - excellent.

They keep cutting to interviews with Ura and his Oyakata. To sum it up: Ura is the best.

Would be nice to see the makuuchi coverage, but I can understand. Nothing important happening in Makuuchi.

Now they are talking about him more on air. He is getting pretty popular.

Didn't they say that it was last used 4 years ago or something? By Baruto if I heard right? Can't be right, right?

Was a beautiful manouver by Ishiura though, slick hands.

Someone was asking about kabai-te recently. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Okinoumi-Ikioi bout proves that the rule is not relevant anymore.

Endou did well today but not well enough to win, unfortunatelly.

Talking about sad facts, Terunofuji is not even trying anymore. He must be really injured. The last bouts looks like his not there at all. Today with tochinoshin was almost a replay of yesterday's bout, really like him, after amuuru and amishiki pull out i was not happy about another one but damn, Teru needs one.

It's four years ago that Baruto used Harimanage, but that wasn't the last time, of course.

And contrary to Takarafuji yesterday, Myogiryu planned that henka right from the start.

Shodai is afraid to battle with a Yokozuna. He hesitates and always steps back. Is he afraid of getting slapped and scolded by them if he tried to fight back or something? I mean he is better than what he is showing against the Yokozunae.

Kotoyuuki's mindgames are working against Goeidou. He does these few times in every basho. That second tachiai was totally intended to mess with Goeido.

And Hakuho is Hakuho. I mean of course he is going to win, now he wins the with the cool throw. He must have heard the english commentators yesterday. And that satisfied smirk at the end. No dameoshi today. He should have gone to Ichinojo and kick him while he is down to make sure he had won, just for good measure. Just so we could tell him how awful Hakuho is.

And there is the highlight. Hikkake by Harumafuji. Beautiful and gentleman to the end is Harumafuji. I hope he would win this instead of Hakuho. Harumafuji is just so much more likable.

Can someone tell me why SHODAI still fights under his real name and did not adopt a "proper" shikona?

So soon to say but

Will Kisenosato endure and make a playoff with hakuho in the final day? (In jonokuchi...) :'-(

And what's going on with Yoshikaze? Totally lost his mojo in the last two bashos

3 dame-oshi already by Hakuho, about the 2nd against Shodai, Nihonoseki remarked: "He doesn't improve, an ugly sight."

Sato is the first teen sekitori after 50 years to start 5-0, a 15-0 would be after 84 years again, but: "I don't think at all about that"

http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1646393.html

Like mentioned in the pics, Kotoyuki has a new pre-bout routine, the silent "huh" - "shush" - and started to win again

Regarding the Ura interview at the start of Makuuchi...it has nothing to do with his star status; all new sekitori get the same interview of the same length at the same time. Sato had his the day before.
