Kotogouryuu 126 Posted May 12, 2016 Hakuho just being Hakuho; it seems like late shoves are a compulsion for him. I have a feeling if there hadn't been such a fuzz about a couple of the shoves, we wouldn't be seeing them as much. It's like he's just trolling now.
K. Sear 27 Posted May 12, 2016 If everyone is Yokozuna then it is meaningless. I've been against his promotion from the start and will always be. Everyone isn't yokozuna and there are no threats of that coming to pass. It's not like the new criteria are so loose that there are new yokuzuna every third basho, they still have to be pretty damn good. Being against Kakuryu's promotion is fine, but it isn't his fault he was promoted under a different set of criteria. Kakuryu is solid and what he did to get promotion was actually impressive. I consistently root for him, partly because I dislike all the grief people put on him.
Asashosakari 18,786 Posted May 12, 2016 Haven't they learned from Futahaguro and Kakuryu? What's Kakuryu done wrong for you to lump him in with Futahaguro? Consecutive 14-1-D and 14-1Y meets the minimum requirement for Yokozuna promotion, and that's what Kakuryu did ... He's been told that about ten times by now, but rzombie1988 will continue to insist that he knows better than the Kyokai has for the last ~90 years.
RabidJohn 1,665 Posted May 12, 2016 Being against Kakuryu's promotion is fine, but it isn't his fault he was promoted under a different set of criteria. He wasn't promoted under a different set of criteria, it's just that all the Yokozunas since Onokuni got 2 consecutive wins with no preceding 'equivalent performances', and none of the other Yusho winners had consecutive 'equivalent performances'. Kakuryu was just the first for a long time. Being against Kakuryu because his performance as a Yokozuna leaves a lot to be desired is fine by me, though. luispereira 383 Posted May 12, 2016 ichinojo has started to have some moves eheh, I think it will be the best basho for him, not in terms of wins, but in quality, he has potential, hope he'll become great!

On another note, that was a glorious, glorious throw from Ikioi.

rzombie1988 157 Posted May 12, 2016 (edited) Hak with another small but extra shove today. He'll win the tournament but they need to start hitting his kensho so he gets the message. Kintamayama 44,354 Posted May 12, 2016 Kisenosato is up for promotion if he goes 14-1. He could easily be a Yokozuna without winning a title. A 14-1 Yusho. No equivalent or runner up. Yusho. This "up for promotion" thing is fiction-some Oyakata said he would regard it as enough, as long as he beat all 3 Yokozunae. Some other Oyakata said something else. In any case, we are talking yusho, not a 14-1 jun yusho. I sincerely doubt anyone in the foreseeable future will be promoted without at least one yusho in his last 2 bashos.

If he yushoes, even 13 wins will be OK for promotion I guess. If not yusho, 14 wins including a win over Hakuho will probably be OK too. Actually, in the latter case he will yusho for sure. However, I don't want to see Hakuho ends this basho like he ended the January basho.
Dapeng 232 Posted May 12, 2016 I think Hakuho just forgot that the goal is to push your opponent out of the ring, not off the dohyo. That's all, no blame. There's too little space between the ring and the edge of the dohyo. In case of yorikiri, you may be able to withhold your force after your opponent is out so that he can still stand on the dohyo. But with oshidashi, you will not stop pushing until your opponent is clearly out of the ring. In this case your opponent will inevitably fall down the dohyo too. It's hard to believe a yokozuna as dominant as Hakuho has such poor ring sense that he doesn't know when an opponent is out.

I really don't trust them with Kisenosato or Japanese hovering around that level. Just too much money on the line. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened had Kotoshogiku done a bit better last time around. I don't know if they would have said no if went 12-3. People shouldn't give shots they can't take. Plain and simple. And you aren't exactly some innocent bystander, I saw the like. So save it. "He's been told that about ten times by now, but rzombie1988 will continue to insist that he knows better than the Kyokai has for the last ~90 years." ^^There was no reason for that, especially coming from him of all people. Maybe when he grows up a bit he'll get it. But he's not going to, and I have no doubt he'll bring it up again by next basho. I seriously don't care. You want to ban me? Go right ahead. I'm not taking crap. There's 10 total people who actually post here(queue someone giving me some number for the smart comment). I assure you that a forum I check every 2 months is not a big deal for me. Edited May 12, 2016 by rzombie1988

Sponsors pay for kensho for specific bouts with an understanding of how the money will be split up. If a sponsor is offended by Hakuho's behavior they are perfectly free to move their money to other bouts, but once paid for it's not up to the NSK where the money goes. Jyuunomori 226 Posted May 13, 2016 (edited) Today is exciting day. Will Ura be able to beat Asabenkei? Asabenkei is 190 cm and 170kg+ in weight and has had the best Juryo basho in his career. We all know Ura is more skillful but will the Spirit and Technique win against a Body today? Jokoryu, lord have mercy on your soul. I get the feeling Sato will obliterate you today. If he wins Sato is 6-0 and almost at KK already. Just reminding that Oyanagi is not competing today, but he is still bullying the Makushita division. I expect to see him on Juryo come winter. Will Kotokamatani beat Hokuyozan today? I think so. I think he will also bully himself to Juryo in a year or so. Juryo will become super competetive because Ishibashi is also going to join the mettle. He is also 2-0 but does not have a bout today. These guys are obviously on the list. But we all know that Hattorizakura is the greatest rikishi there will ever be. He should gain weight from the size of his testicles alone, the gutsiest rikishi currently on the banzuke. Will he keep his streak alive? Maybe the whole basho? Also there is some Makuuchi bouts today but who really cares? Hakuho will win anyway, and he doesn't even give us flashy throws.
